## In short

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and dak gomtang (chicken rice soup) restaurant on Tongdosa-ro in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan, Gyeongnam. Half a chicken goes into the kalguksu, the dak gomtang comes with rice, and the chewy mandu (dumplings) tasted much the same as at the original branch; the noodle soup arrives pre-seasoned, but Eonyang Dak Kalguksu will serve the broth unsalted on request. A filling, dependable meal after a visit to Tongdosa Temple.

## Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch: a filling meal near Tongdosa Temple

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) specialty restaurant at 6 Tongdosa-ro, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. It's open 11:00–21:00 with last order at 20:00, and closed every Wednesday. Parking is available in the private lot beside and behind the restaurant, and the signature menu items are dak kalguksu, dak gomtang, and Eonyang-style kalguksu.

I used to eat at the original Eonyang Dak Kalguksu branch, waiting in line for it, and I enjoyed it enough that it stayed on my mind for a while afterward. Then I found out there was a Tongdosa branch, and since I happened to be nearby, I dropped in after a long time. It's known as such a popular spot with lines out the door that I went in remembering the taste from the original branch.

## What is on the menu at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu near Tongdosa?

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch sits close to Tongdosa Temple. The star of the menu is, of course, the kalguksu — there's dak kalguksu with a whole half chicken in it, deep-flavored Eonyang-style kalguksu, and dak gomtang served with half a chicken plus rice. There's also spicy braised chicken and soy braised chicken, which looked like they'd work well as lunch, dinner, or even a drinking snack.

## Parking at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu: a large lot beside and behind

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a fairly large restaurant with a spacious parking area out back, so it was convenient to visit by car. If you're looking for somewhere to eat after visiting Tongdosa, I think this is a good spot to stop by.

## Inside the restaurant: spacious, cool, and spicy kimchi at the self-service corner

Walking in, the interior felt more spacious and open than I expected. The wood-toned, folk-style interior suited the restaurant's atmosphere well. Basic side dishes are set out at first, and you can grab extra sides from the self-service corner.

One thing that quietly stuck with me here was the kimchi. It's quite spicy, but that heat pairs really well with the kalguksu or dak gomtang.

## What we ordered: dak kalguksu, dak gomtang and chewy mandu

This time we ordered dak kalguksu, dak gomtang, and chewy mandu.

![A bowl of dak kalguksu with half a chicken](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth-09-71mki-900.webp)

![Chicken-bone broth with perilla seeds and noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth-10-1ypi6-488.webp)

The dak kalguksu comes with a whole half chicken in it, so it looked generous the moment it arrived. The broth is made from chicken bones simmered down and mixed with perilla seeds, giving it a nutty, deep flavor, and the noodles are apparently house-made — hand-kneaded and low-temperature aged for a day. Rather than just soft, the noodles had a lively chewy texture that went well with the broth.

## Dak gomtang: a hearty bowl served with rice

![Dak gomtang served with rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth-11-h1oed-750.webp)

![Half a chicken in dak gomtang broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth-12-960z3-900.webp)

![Dak gomtang served with spicy kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth-13-s284q-900.webp)

The dak gomtang comes with half a chicken and rice, making it quite a filling meal on its own. Eating the nutty, rich broth together with the rice gave it a heartiness similar to eating samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup). Adding the spicy kimchi on top cut through what could otherwise be a fairly plain flavor, and I kept going back for more — personally, I really liked that combination.

## Eonyang Dak Kalguksu's chewy mandu, worth adding

![A plate of chewy mandu ordered as a side](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth-14-1b98s-718.webp)

![Close-up of the chewy mandu](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth-15-gkih8-750.webp)

![A mandu cut in half showing the filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth/tongdosa-eonyang-chicken-kalguksu-broth-16-1bxpa-m-614.webp)

The mandu we ordered lived up to its name, with an impressively chewy texture. It was a nice side to add when just kalguksu and dak gomtang felt like not quite enough. If you're visiting with a group, it also seemed good for sharing alongside the main dishes.

## How does the Tongdosa branch compare with the original Eonyang branch?

Since I remembered eating at the original branch, I was curious how the Tongdosa branch would compare. Personally, it felt familiar and consistent, without any real difference. I think that's exactly the strength of a chain — no matter which branch you visit, the core direction of the flavor doesn't change much.

With the generous half chicken and the broth blending chicken bone stock with perilla, it was a solid restaurant near Tongdosa for a hearty meal.

## Good to know: salt-free broth and milder kimchi on request

The kalguksu at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is seasoned by default. You can ask for unsalted broth instead, so if you prefer lighter seasoning, it's worth mentioning when you order.

- The kalguksu is served pre-seasoned, but unsalted broth can be requested
- The kimchi is quite spicy — if you're sensitive to spice, try a small bite first
- At the Tongdosa branch, I also saw a milder kimchi option — you can choose that one instead
- Water and extra side dishes are self-service

## Is Eonyang Dak Kalguksu worth a meal stop near Tongdosa?

The generous half chicken, the nutty chicken-bone broth, and the perilla combination were all still good. Most of all, it was nice that the familiar taste I remembered hadn't changed at all. If you're at Tongdosa and looking for a hearty meal, I strongly recommend 👍🏻 it. Eating it again after so long made me realize how much I'd missed it, and with the weather turning cold, I'm sure I'll be back next time I'm near Tongdosa.
