## In short

Mugen Haeundae Main Branch is an oceanview Japanese restaurant on the 2nd floor of Aratrium in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan. The writer and her husband ordered the beef brisket hoban-jjim (cypress steam box) set, served as a course of steamed egg, salad, hoban-jjim, Nagasaki jjamppong soup and plum tea, with the steamer packed full of vegetables — plenty for two. For a light, non-greasy meal or a tidy spot to take your parents, Mugen Haeundae Main Branch is a solid choice.

Today I came with my husband to eat hoban-jjim (cypress box steamed dish) haha! He said he needs to diet so we started looking for healthy food~ and while hunting for something tasty and healthy, I found Mugen 👍🏻 Come along with me (he is a very famous foodie, by the way).

At the entrance, a cutout of Sojiseob greeted me.

The seats were spacious and clean. The ceiling was high and open so there was no cramped feeling at all, and natural light streamed in for a really comfortable atmosphere.

## What is the ocean view like at Mugen Haeundae Main Branch?

What I liked most was honestly the view from Mugen Haeundae Main Branch. You see it the moment you walk in — isn't it gorgeous? It felt like my whole mind cleared up just looking at it~

![Ocean view from a window seat at Mugen Haeundae Main Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-04-1ddzy-966.webp)

I love good food, but I also love a good view while eating~~ it made me feel like I was being treated to something special.

## What comes in the beef brisket cypress steam set course?

We ordered the beef brisket hoban-jjim set, and the course was made up of steamed egg, salad, beef brisket hoban-jjim, Nagasaki jjamppong soup, and plum tea.

![Chilled water served in a glass bottle](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-08-h4rfe-966.webp)

They even served cold water in a glass bottle. You could tell they paid attention to every little detail, even the small stuff.

![Chopsticks and disposable hand-wipe tissue setting](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-09-oog9s-966.webp)

They gave us chopsticks and a hand-wipe tissue too — a disposable one, so I wiped my hands clean and was ready to eat ✔️

*Steamed egg*

The Japanese-style steamed egg, chawanmushi, came out, and when I opened the lid it was plated like a flower! I'd never seen it made this cutely before ^^

*Hoban-jjim sauces*

### The two dipping sauces: peanut and soy

They prepared a peanut sauce and a soy sauce to go with the hoban-jjim. Peanut sauce has been my No.1 favorite sauce since childhood... though I don't like peanut butter, I don't know why...

![Steamer and cooking timer for the hoban-jjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-13-1loss-966.webp)

![Timer set to 11 minutes for the hoban-jjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-14-1yrdc-966.webp)

They set an 11-minute timer, and we waited until the meat and vegetables were steamed through 😀

*Salad*

The dressing was so refreshing that my hand kept reaching for the salad.

With onion, carrot, lettuce and more, there was a good variety of vegetables, perfect for a light bite before the meat.

## How the beef brisket cypress steam tastes, and how much you get

Mugen Haeundae Main Branch's beef brisket hoban-jjim was light and non-greasy! There was a lot of bean sprouts underneath, so great to eat together with the meat.

![Vegetable tray full of lotus root, broccoli and mushrooms for the hoban-jjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-17-gvsv6-966.webp)
*Hoban-jjim*

Lotus root, green peas, enoki mushroom, oyster mushroom, broccoli, cabbage, cherry tomato, eggplant, bean sprouts — the tray was packed full of vegetables. I actually thought that was sweet potato but it was eggplant 🍆 I gave both pieces to my husband~^^

![A generous full spread of hoban-jjim for two people](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-18-127fj-966.webp)
*Hoban-jjim*

It's generous enough for two people to eat well.

My first bite was dipped heavily in my favorite peanut sauce.

The sauce was so nutty and delicious that I kept reaching for it only... when I asked for more later, they were kind enough to just bring me the whole container.

![Soy sauce served alongside the hoban-jjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-20-p3e5n-966.webp)
*Soy sauce*

The sauce looked spicy but even I, who can't handle spice well, could enjoy it — not too salty, seasoning right on point ☺️ There were so many bean sprouts no matter how much I ate, so I had plenty with the brisket~ It's been a while since I ate vegetables steamed this thoroughly.

![A chopstick-load of well-steamed vegetables and beef brisket](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-21-hpqq9-966.webp)

With so many different vegetables, it was fun picking through them each time, and eating them with the meat wasn't greasy or heavy on the stomach at all~

![Pot of Nagasaki jjamppong soup loaded with seafood](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-22-1ik2p-966.webp)
*Nagasaki jjamppong*

## Nagasaki jjamppong soup (spicy seafood noodle broth)

Next up was the Nagasaki jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup). The broth wasn't salty at all and had plenty of seafood — I was surprised! I expected something like a simple udon, but they brought out a pot full.

Cabbage, wood ear mushroom, shrimp, bean sprouts, squid, and jjamppong noodles were all packed in generously, and the broth was rich and tasty — the kind of flavor that makes you want a beer ☺️ Sadly I couldn't have one, so I just kept scooping up the jjamppong broth instead.

![Bouncy jjamppong noodles and squid pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view/mugen-haeundae-hinoki-steam-ocean-view-23-vnkbv-966.webp)

Every time I scooped a spoonful, more vegetables and seafood kept coming.

Can you see how bouncy and chewy the noodles are?🍝 My husband said he's not eating udon noodles because he's dieting, so I ate them all myself. Getting to eat the whole bowl of chewy udon noodles alone made me so happy? I cleaned up the vegetables and squid too, every last bit.

## Why Mugen Haeundae is a good place to bring your parents

To finish, they served a rich plum tea, perfect for lightly cleansing the palate~ even the baby reached out asking for some haha. If you've been eating too much greasy food and are looking for something healthy or diet-friendly, I recommend Mugen Haeundae. It's also a great place to bring your parents — clean, refined, and full of atmosphere 👍🏻
