Found it!!!!! Found a real braised hairtail (galchi-jorim) place in Jeju. I've traveled to Jeju so many times, and being a total rice person, I always go for places where rice-based dishes like braised hairtail or seaweed soup are the main event — this time I found a genuinely good braised hairtail spot ❤️ It's called Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon, let me tell you about it.

## Where Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon is and when it opens

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon is at 101 Sinyang-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, 1st floor, open daily 08:00–21:30 (last order 21:00). The braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, and seafood hot pot set is ₩24,000, and there's a baby chair.

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon specializes in braised hairtail, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), and hot pots, and it's located near Aqua Planet Seongsan! Honestly, braised hairtail and hot pot are dishes you're bound to eat at least once in Jeju, and the menu itself doesn't really set restaurants apart from each other — but since you're not going to eat braised hairtail twice on one trip, you'd better pick a place that does it well so you're not left with regrets. From that angle, surviving for almost 30 years in a tourist spot like Seongsan Ilchulbong is a fantastic reference!! So before visiting, I had this baseline expectation that even if it wasn't a life-changing meal, it wouldn't be a letdown either lol.

## Can you go with a 7-month-old? Seating and the wooden high chair

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon isn't huge. It has about 13 tables of 4, so it fits around 50 people. I visited with my baby, and there was a baby chair so I could eat comfortably. They even tried to bring out baby tableware, but my 7-month-old still can't eat on her own... haha T_T

## What comes in the 24,000 won A set

There are single-item menus too, but set menus give you way better value, so I ordered the A set :) It comes with braised hairtail + grilled tilefish + sweet pot rice + soy marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup. For ₩24,000 per person, once I tried it, it was seriously top-tier value 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

There are disposable aprons and paper cups set up in one corner of the restaurant. Disposables aren't necessarily a good thing, but personally I like it because it feels a bit more hygienic haha.

They also sell a soy marinated crab set meal. But there were better things to try so I skipped it this time! If you keep reading you'll see why — the soy marinated crab shows up as a side dish haha.

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon uses 100% Jeju hairtail, and since they only use wild-caught fish, they mention there could be a fishhook in the hairtail. But I didn't find one when I ate.

My excited baby ❤️ Most restaurants have those Ikea baby chairs, but here it's a wooden chair, so it felt sturdier and more stable, which I liked even more :)

## Seven side dishes, including soy-marinated crab

There are 7 side dishes total, and one of them is soy marinated crab. It was really delicious but I didn't ask for a refill. Why? Because the braised hairtail that comes after is absolutely insane T_T It was so good that the other side dishes just faded into the background.

## How the full spread arrives at the table

Here's the full table setting. On the far left is the braised hairtail, below it the sweet pot rice, in the middle the grilled tilefish and side dishes, and on the right the seafood hot pot.

Wow, all this for ₩24,000 per person. Eating it, I genuinely wondered if the owner was even making any profit selling it like this — it was such a solid, generous spread.

I'm a total rice person, and I especially love pot rice. Getting pot rice included as standard made me so happy, and the braised hairtail!!! Truly insane.

## How big the hairtail pieces are in the galchi-jorim

Honestly, there are a lot of places that just make it look pretty on the outside while using cheap or tiny hairtail that's barely worth picking apart, and still charging ₩70,000–80,000 for two people. I've been let down plenty of times before T_T (subtweeting a specific hairtail restaurant in Seogwipo here).

For sure, ₩24,000 per person here is already good value, but the hairtail they use is really thick, so I came away feeling like I'd had a proper braised hairtail experience.

There were more than 6 fairly large-cut pieces of hairtail, so I could eat plenty, and the seasoning base, built up over years of running the place, had that reliably tasty flavor everyone can agree on.

### How big is the grilled tilefish?

On top of that, they gave us grilled tilefish, which is an awkward thing to order on its own, so I got to try it,

The tilefish is more of a side item so it's not huge in size, but it was plenty for a taste.

### Sticky pot rice, and why the writer ordered a second bowl

Sure, the basic side dishes and main dishes are great, but at Korean restaurants like this, the rice is the most important thing, right? Since it's pot rice to begin with, and they seem to use good rice, it was truly delicious ^___^ I never order extra rice, but I ordered one more bowl here haha.

## Worth one braised hairtail meal on Jeju's east coast?

Having traveled Jeju a lot and been to plenty of braised hairtail and grilled hairtail places, considering price, menu composition, and hairtail quality, this was the most satisfying restaurant for me. If you're traveling Jeju's east side to Seongsan Ilchulbong or Aqua Planet, definitely stop by Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon!! (I really mean it 💙)
