These days, as the wind turns cool, a date that mixes good food with a slow walk feels just right.

That day we wandered around Yeonnam-dong, checked out a few cafés, walked through the alleys, and when evening came we started looking for somewhere to eat.

Yeonnam-dong has so many good restaurants that it was hard to pick, but in the end we decided on tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) — something clean and filling. Just imagining the crisp fried coating and juicy meat got me a little excited.

## Inside Katsu Monster: bar seats and tablet ordering

Walking into Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch, the space felt small but clean. Along with table seats, there were bar seats too, so it looked comfortable enough for a solo meal as well.

Each table had its own tablet, so we could take our time browsing the menu and order comfortably, and there was a separate space to store bags.

There was a good variety of sauces to go with the katsu, so you could eat it however you liked. High chairs were available too, so it looked fine for family visits.

## The menu: what is the difference between rosukatsu and hirekatsu?

Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch centers on tonkatsu, with several options built around cut of meat — rosukatsu made with pork loin, and hirekatsu made with pork tenderloin.

Since there were two of us, we each ordered a different one to share. Loin and tenderloin have slightly different textures, so ordering both together made for a fun comparison as we ate.

## How did the loin and tenderloin katsu taste?

First, the rosukatsu looked crisp just from its breading.

Taking a bite, the outside was crunchy and the meat inside was juicy, a nice contrast in texture. The savory flavor typical of pork loin, combined with just the right amount of fat, gave it that proper tonkatsu taste.

The meat wasn't dry at all, in fact quite tender, so it was good even without sauce.

The hirekatsu felt lighter than the rosukatsu. With almost no fat layer since it's tenderloin, it was clean to eat, and the meat itself was soft, so it went down easily.

Personally, since the savoriness of the rosukatsu and the lightness of the hirekatsu were so different, I was glad we'd ordered one of each to share.

## Verdict: Yeonnam-dong tonkatsu for a date or a solo dinner

If you're walking around Yeonnam-dong on a cool autumn day and want a satisfying meal, tonkatsu fits the mood well. Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch has a small, clean space with bar seats, and ordering is easy, so it felt comfortable to visit whether on a date or alone.
