Haewing here — whenever I go somewhere for fun, I always have to eat something local before I leave..! I was hanging out around Sindorim and, while figuring out dinner, suddenly craved jokbal (Korean braised pork trotter) after a while, so I headed to The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch!

Bottom line first: the jokbal itself was delicious, but there were so many side dishes that came with it that mixing and matching them was half the fun. Spicy jokbal with rice balls was an especially great combo. Here's my honest review after stuffing my face haha ㅎㅅㅎ

The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch is on the first floor of the Sindorim 3-cha Prugio commercial building!! It's roughly between Sindorim Station and Guro Station, so it's accessible from either one, and since I drove, I could use the basement parking lot, which was convenient.

Inside, instead of the usual loud, crowded feel of a typical jokbal restaurant, it was neatly organized. There were lots of spacious tables, so it seemed fine for a family meal, and it also felt like it'd work well for a work dinner or gathering where a group is having drinks with their jokbal!

We actually ordered a ton and filled up the table too — since the menu is so varied, it's great for a group to come share dishes.

The Jokbal has quite a variety of mains — from plain jokbal to charcoal-grilled spicy jokbal, half-and-half jokbal, bossam (boiled pork wraps), and cold jokbal — plus sides like buckwheat noodle platters, egg custard, and rice balls. What I loved especially: if you're torn between plain and spicy jokbal, you can just order half-and-half!

What we ordered was

Once you order jokbal, a generous basic table setting comes out with it. Seasoned chives and radish kimchi, garlic, onions, and sauces came out, and there were plenty of wrap greens too — lettuce, perilla leaves, even cabbage.

In the dining hall specifically, they give you a free serving of cold jokbal haha. Refreshing and really tasty.

A piping hot dried radish green soybean paste soup comes standard too!! This was genuinely delicious, kind of deep in flavor — tasted like something your mom would make.

Here comes the main event!

On one side, the plain jokbal glistening with sheen; on the other, the spicy jokbal coated in a sauce with a huge smoky, fire-grilled kick.

The plain jokbal had a great balance of chewy-springy skin and soft meat. The spicy version was sweet-and-spicy with a thick coating of sauce, and it came with rice cake mixed in too, so picking pieces here and there was fun.

Spicy bite → plain bite → spicy bite again — I was glad we ordered the half-and-half combo.

Shaped into round bite-sized balls, they were easy to eat and paired incredibly well with the spicy jokbal sauce. Savory salty rice ball bite, then a spicy jokbal bite — oh man.

## Buckwheat noodle platter (small), 9,000 won

And you can't have jokbal without a buckwheat noodle platter! Even the small size was plenty when eating it alongside all the jokbal and sides. There was plenty of sauce, plus vegetables, noodles, and even a boiled egg on top — just mix it all together. The tangy, spicy sauce reset your palate from the jokbal's richness, which meant I kept going back for more.

## Egg custard at 6,000 won to cool the spice

We also ordered egg custard to soothe things between spicy bites. It comes out in a hot stone bowl, fluffy and jiggly, and eating it warm made it soft and nutty-tasting.

Especially when your tongue starts burning from the spicy jokbal, one spoonful of egg custard and you're basically starting fresh again lol. If you're ordering the spicy version, it's a great side to get alongside it!

Oh, this photo looks totally nighttime.

Not sure what's up with the lighting, but anyway! The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch was a great place to eat a satisfying spread centered on jokbal with lots of sides. The plain jokbal let you enjoy soft meat with chewy skin, and the spicy jokbal had such a distinct sauce that the two flavors never overlapped, which I liked!

They also have a separate lunch menu, so it works as a Sindorim lunch spot, and with so many hearty mains, it's also good as a Guro Station restaurant to visit with friends or on a date, or as a work dinner spot for office workers nearby! Since there are so many good menu items, it's better with more people so you can order a bunch of different things. Bye!
