## In short

Seocho Jeonggye is a chicken restaurant on the first floor of the Mido Building, near Exit 8 of Seocho Station in Seoul, and every dish starts from chicken stock simmered in a cauldron. The solo boneless dak-bokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken) set costs 17,000 won, and the dak-tteokgalbi (grilled chicken patty) chosen as the set dish turned out to be the most memorable part of the meal. From a solo lunch to a medium dak-bokkeumtang for 2–3 people at 32,000 won, Seocho Jeonggye cooks familiar chicken dishes properly.

I was hunting for a dinner spot near Seocho Station and ended up at Seocho Jeonggye, a restaurant specializing in chicken dishes. During lunch hours it's packed with office workers from the area, so there's usually a bit of a wait, but since I went for dinner I was lucky enough to get in without waiting long! After eating there, I totally understood why it's so popular at lunch. Every morning they simmer chicken stock in a cauldron, and from that base they make dak-kalguksu (chicken noodle soup), dak-bokkeumtang, dak-hanmari (whole chicken hot pot), and more. Especially the solo boneless dak-bokkeumtang set combined with dak-tteokgalbi exceeded my expectations. Not flashy or new-tasting, but a place that shows the terrifying power of a familiar flavor done really well — a solid find near Seocho Station.

## Where is Seocho Jeonggye? Hours and parking

- Name: Seocho Jeonggye
- Address: 20 Beopwon-ro 1-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul, South Korea, 1F Mido Building
- Hours: Daily 11:00–22:00
- Break time: 15:00–17:00

- Directions: From Seocho Station Exit 8, go straight, turn left at the first alley, turn left again at the first alley, about 30m
- Parking: 1 spot available in front; use nearby paid lots if full

It's close to Seocho Station so it's easy to reach by public transit, and it's right across from the Lawyers' Association building, so it wasn't hard to find. Parking isn't very spacious, so taking public transit is probably more convenient if you can.

## Inside Seocho Jeonggye: clean, cozy, easy for solo diners

Seocho Jeonggye is located on the first floor of the Mido Building. From the outside, the sign and wood-toned design already give off proper Korean restaurant vibes, and stepping inside, the whole space felt clean and cozy.

Since it was lunchtime, there were plenty of customers — I actually waited a bit to get a seat, which shows how many office workers come here to eat.

From solo-friendly menus to dak-bokkeumtang and dak-hanmari meant for sharing, the place suits everything from a weekday lunch for office workers near Seocho Station to dinner or a casual get-together.

## Chicken stock simmered in a cauldron, the base of every dish

The menu makes it clear this is a chicken specialty restaurant. Chicken stock simmered for a long time in a cauldron forms the base for dak-kalguksu and dak-hanmari, and the Seocho dak-bokkeumtang made with a special gochujang (red chili paste) sauce is one of the signature dishes.

The medium dak-bokkeumtang is a whole chicken portion good for 2–3 people, and if you're dining solo, you can go for the solo boneless dak-bokkeumtang or the dak-kalguksu set instead. In the evening, dishes like Jeonggye-style fried chicken or gamjajeon (potato pancake) pair nicely with traditional liquor too.

Here's what I ordered!

## Solo boneless dak-bokkeumtang set, 17,000 won

What I was most curious about was the solo boneless dak-bokkeumtang set. Dak-bokkeumtang usually has the image of a dish you need at least two people for, so I loved that here you can enjoy a boneless version made with chicken thigh meat as a solo menu.

![Solo boneless dak-bokkeumtang made with chicken thigh meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-jeonggye-solo-dakbokkeumtang-set/seocho-jeonggye-solo-dakbokkeumtang-set-13-zcr1l-900.webp)

No hassle of picking apart big bones — you can dig right into soft chicken thigh meat coated in sauce, and the sauce itself wasn't just spicy for spice's sake. The gochujang-based sweet-and-spicy flavor soaked well into the chicken, the kind of taste that naturally makes you crave rice!

It's not a completely new flavor, but it felt like it captured exactly the tasty points we already know and love about dak-bokkeumtang. So while eating it, I kept thinking, 'this is what they mean by the terrifying power of a familiar taste.' If you're craving a hearty meal and looking for Seocho dak-bokkeumtang, it's a solid choice for solo dining too.

## Why the dak-tteokgalbi was the surprise hit of the set

And the dak-tteokgalbi I chose as part of the set was genuinely a hit! Honestly, I initially thought of it as just a side to go with the dak-bokkeumtang, but once I actually tried it, its presence

![Dak-tteokgalbi served as part of the set menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-jeonggye-solo-dakbokkeumtang-set/seocho-jeonggye-solo-dakbokkeumtang-set-17-pnmy0-900.webp)

was undeniable. Made with chicken thigh meat, the tteokgalbi (grilled patty) wasn't dry at all — it was moist, and with the sweet-and-savory sauce added, it had a flavor almost anyone could enjoy without hesitation.

Taking a bite of the spicy boneless dak-bokkeumtang and then following it with dak-tteokgalbi shifted the whole mood of the meal, which made the set even more satisfying. Honestly, out of everything I ate that day, this dak-tteokgalbi was the most unexpectedly memorable. It was so much tastier than I expected that I couldn't help glancing over when the next table's order came out.

## Dining with 2–3 people? Medium dak-bokkeumtang, 32,000 won

If you're visiting with a group, the medium dak-bokkeumtang at ₩32,000 is also great. It uses domestic chicken supplied directly from Jeonggye's own chicken farm and a special gochujang sauce, and it's said to be a good portion for 2–3 people to share.

![Medium-size dak-bokkeumtang for 2–3 people at Seocho Jeonggye](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-jeonggye-solo-dakbokkeumtang-set/seocho-jeonggye-solo-dakbokkeumtang-set-18-c4q49-900.webp)

Tender chicken meets a spicy yet savory sauce in a classic Seocho dak-bokkeumtang style, great for a hearty meal with rice. The freshly tossed geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi), made daily, was also a nice side alongside the chicken. Rather than pushing one bold signature dish, the place gave a strong impression of simply doing the basics of chicken cooking really well.

After the meal, free sikhye (sweet rice punch) was served as dessert, a sweet and cool finish. It paired even better after the spicy dak-bokkeumtang.

## From a solo lunch to evening drinks at a Korean pub

Seocho Jeonggye's biggest strength is that even the basic stock for its chicken dishes is simmered in-house in a cauldron. Rather than selling just one chicken dish, they offer a wide range of options — from dak-kalguksu and the solo boneless dak-bokkeumtang for lunch, to dak-hanmari for sharing among several people.

The solo menu options in particular make it easy to swing by for a nearby office lunch or solo meal, and in the evening it works well as a Korean pub, pairing dak-bokkeumtang and gamjajeon with traditional liquor. Worth remembering not just as a spot near Seocho Station, but for a hearty Korean meal near Gyodae Station too.

After a bit of a wait during lunch hour, getting into Seocho Jeonggye was worth it. The solo boneless dak-bokkeumtang and dak-tteokgalbi set in particular exceeded my expectations. It's a place that makes familiar dak-bokkeumtang taste so good you keep reaching for more, and the dak-tteokgalbi I thought would be just a side turned out to be genuinely delicious too, making for a really satisfying set.

With a clean, cozy space that suits both a solo lunch and dak-bokkeumtang for 2–3 people to share, Seocho Jeonggye is a great restaurant near Seocho Station to keep in mind whenever you're craving a hearty Korean meal.
