## Jugeokjip, a barbecue restaurant in Jisan-dong, Pyeongtaek

Jugeokjip is at 747-8 Jisan-dong, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do. It is open every day of the year from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with last orders at 9:20 p.m.

## Is the soju really unlimited and free?

I could tell why Jugeokjip, a great meat spot in Jisan-dong, Songtan, would appeal to soju fans from the moment I walked in. Unlimited soju—100 bottles or even 1,000 bottles—is free, they say.

These days, soju is at least ₩5,000 wherever you go, but it is free at Jugeokjip ❤️ Maybe because every type of soju is free, each table had one or two bottles of everyone’s preferred soju piling up ‼️

I’m the type who says that if you’re drinking, you need at least two bottles for it to count, so in this high-inflation era, free soju is something this soju lover is very thankful for,, ❤️

## Ordering jugeoksal and garlic-marinated beef ribs

We ordered two portions of signature jugeoksal at ₩26,000 for the first order, one additional portion of garlic-marinated beef ribs at ₩21,500, traditional barbecue-restaurant doenjang jjigae at ₩7,000, two bowls of rice for ₩2,000, complimentary yukhoe for ₩0, one Cass beer for ₩5,000, and two Chamisul sojus for ₩0.

There were so many kinds of meat and sides that Hooni and I, both terribly indecisive, deliberated for ages before finally ordering. The staff brought out a tableful of banchan (Korean side dishes) ‼️

Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), one of my favorite foods, came as a side dish too—and oh my goodness,, it was so delicious ❤️

## A self-serve bar with japchae, too

I was honestly thinking, I want more japchae,, when the owner told me there was japchae at the self-serve bar and that I could help myself, so off I went.

Japchae, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and cream soup were kept warm in mini rice cookers ❤️

The self-serve bar beside it had only pairings that go so well with meat ‼️ Hooni and I are serious about meat and have firm preferences, so without a second thought we loaded up on lettuce, sliced onion, ssammu (pickled radish wraps), and shredded scallions 😋

## My first taste of signature jugeoksal

Excitedly carrying our japchae and meat accompaniments back to the table, we found the signature jugeoksal waiting. It looked similar to beef rib meat, but once grilled and eaten, it was a cut and flavor I’d never tried before?! The more I chewed, the tenderer it felt, while the juices burst and the savory flavor built up—it was meat with a wonderfully different taste ❤️

Because we visited with a Naver reservation, we could choose among a complimentary Hanwoo++ yukhoe gift, free soju plus a discount on additional orders, a receipt-review participation offer, or free marinated raw crab plus soju and an additional-meat discount. Since I love yukhoe too, I chose the complimentary Hanwoo++ yukhoe with the Naver reservation. There was so much that I could hardly believe it was free, and it simply melted in my mouth.

Both the meat and yukhoe had that flavor that calls for a drink, so Hooni and I mixed somaek (soju and beer) for our first glass,

## The rice and doenjang jjigae combination

For Hooni and me, rice is essential with meat, so once again we ordered steamed rice plus doenjang jjigae. The rice bowl was filled right up, and the stew was generous with big chunks of tofu—very satisfying 🐷❤️ They called it traditional barbecue-restaurant doenjang jjigae, and yes, it really was the real deal ‼️

Because Hooni and I love meat so much, we’ve visited plenty of barbecue restaurants and tasted plenty of their doenjang jjigae. Even when the meat is good, places that do the stew well are rare, so we were genuinely delighted ❤️

## An additional order of garlic-marinated beef ribs

As we ate, we still had drinks and rice left, and it felt such a shame to leave it there, so we ordered garlic-marinated beef ribs at the additional-order price since we had already ordered jugeoksal. In my experience, marinated ribs are either awful or amazing, so Hooni and I were secretly worried—but no, oh my goodness ‼️‼️

The rib marinade was so tasty and had soaked beautifully into the meat. It was delicious on its own, but wrapped up in ssam (leaf wraps), it was even, even, even better ❤️❤️

## Marshmallows and free ice cream for dessert

We polished off three portions of meat, rice, and doenjang jjigae, but there is always a separate dessert stomach! While wondering what to have, we found marshmallows, grilled them over the remaining charcoal, and then

there were so many kinds of ice cream bars—Wild Body, Watermelon Bar, Amatna, Jaws Bar, Megaton, Megaton Melon, Megaton Banana, Dwaeji Bar, Okdongja, Mango Bar, Melonia, Bing Bing, Choco Fudge, Screw Bar, Nuke Bar, Jewel Bar, and more—and all of them were free and unlimited.

There were almost too many ice cream choices, but after much deliberation Hooni picked a Dwaeji Bar, while I chose nostalgic Choco Fudge for the first time in ages. We finished dessert perfectly, patted our full bellies, and walked home 🤣

These days, drink prices are impossible to ignore wherever you go, but here 100 bottles or 1,000 bottles of soju are unlimited and free ‼️ Additional meat orders are inexpensive too ‼️ Add the generous self-serve bar and all those ice creams ‼️ I honestly wondered whether the owner could possibly have anything left over. It was a place that nailed taste, kindness, value, and guests all at once. The interior is spacious, making it perfect for company dinners and group gatherings, as well as small get-togethers, meals out, and dates.
