## In short

Gilpung is a traditional Korean restaurant in Pungsan-eup, Andong, Gyeongbuk, serving heotjesabap (mock ancestral rite rice) and Andong jjimdak. The seonbi set of heotjesabap for two plus seafood pajeon came to 61,000 won, and the sikhye (sweet rice punch) was good enough to take home for another 5,000 won. Gilpung is a 10-minute drive from Stanford Hotel Andong and 8 minutes from Hahoe Village, with a big parking lot plus private rooms and group seating.

I want to introduce Gilpung, which I visited during my trip to Andong. When I was planning the trip, I made a firm decision: I'd eat food that's famous in Andong, food you can only really get in Andong. So I wanted to try Andong jjimdak (braised chicken) and Andong heotjesabap!

I was staying at Stanford Hotel Andong, and while looking for a heotjesabap spot nearby I found Andong Gilpung (10 minutes by car. Honestly there isn't much around Stanford Hotel Andong, so this counts as a nearby restaurant!). It's also 8 minutes by car from Andong Hahoe Village.

The sheer number of side dishes was impressive, and everything was freshly made and piping hot. The owner was so kind, too, and there were lots of other customers. If you're looking for a heotjesabap restaurant near Stanford Hotel Andong or Hahoe Village, this is worth keeping in mind.

## Gilpung location, hours, parking and reservations

Gilpung is located at 8 Nabau-gil, Pungsan-eup, Andong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and it's open from 10:00 to 20:00. There's a private lot with plenty of spacious spots and even room for buses.

- Hours: 10:00–20:00
- Parking: Private lot, spacious with plenty of spots, bus parking possible
- Reservations: Recommended
- Other: Group bookings possible, takeout available, disabled parking spot available, local currency accepted

Pungsan-eup? Sounds too out of the way, you might think — but Stanford Hotel Andong itself is technically in Pungcheon-myeon, so... It was 10 minutes by car from the hotel, and the roads weren't winding at all, so it was an easy drive. As mentioned, it's also 8 minutes from Hahoe Village. It's in a location even a beginner driver could handle easily (and the parking lot is spacious).

Since group bookings and reservations are both possible, you could hold a seminar at Stanford Hotel Andong and then book a group table here to enjoy afterward.

## What does Gilpung look like from outside, and how is the parking lot?

![Exterior of Gilpung in Andong, busy with customers](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-02-oqre8-900.webp)

I try not to put mosaics on my blog photos, but honestly there were so many customers when I visited that it was hard to even get a clean exterior shot. So, heavy mosaic mode it is!

![Gilpung entrance sign listing heotjesabap, Andong jjimdak, and other dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-03-1my1p-900.webp)

Along with heotjesabap, they serve traditional Andong dishes like Andong jjimdak, salted mackerel set, and Andong hanwoo. There was also a sign at the entrance noting that they don't reuse food.

![Spacious private parking lot at Gilpung](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-04-iqmhl-900.webp)

No need to worry about parking at Andong Gilpung — the lot is genuinely huge.

![Gilpung parking lot with a tour bus for a group reservation](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-05-f606d-900.webp)

There was a group reservation that day, so a tour bus was parked outside too. Seems like they're often used for club or group bookings. Still, there are rooms too, and it wasn't a particularly loud atmosphere.

## Inside Gilpung: is it comfortable for just two people?

![Gilpung interior seating with disposable tablecloths](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-06-me5tw-900.webp)

The interior is tidy, with room seating available. They use disposable tablecloths, and there's group seating too. But it seemed like plenty of couples or families, like us, came in as well. Since it's traditional Andong food, local Andong customers were dining alongside foreign visitors too.

## Gilpung menu and prices

![Gilpung menu board showing prices for Andong jjimdak and heotjesabap](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-07-1lwcy-900.webp)

Looking at the menu, all the local Andong dishes worth trying were gathered in one place. Their signature Andong jjimdak comes in small (₩24,000), medium (₩38,000), and large (₩54,000), and Andong hanwoo bulgogi is ₩15,000 per 200g serving, with a minimum order of two servings.

Besides jjimdak, there are meal options like the regular heotjesabap set (₩14,000), the seonbi set (₩23,000), salted mackerel set (₩14,000), and hanwoo bulgogi rice (₩14,000) — a solid lineup for a meal during an Andong trip. The whole grilled salted mackerel is ₩15,000, and there are side dishes to share too, like seafood pajeon (₩15,000), cabbage jeon (₩14,000), and acorn jelly (₩13,000).

For those who want to try a bit of everything, there's also an Andong Special set: ₩84,000 for two, ₩126,000 for three, ₩168,000 for four. It includes Andong jjimdak, whole grilled salted mackerel, Andong hanwoo bulgogi, Andong sikhye, seafood pajeon, acorn jelly, and more — a good option if you're new to Andong and want to try several local dishes beyond heotjesabap at once.

## The 61,000 won spread: heotjesabap seonbi set for two and seafood pajeon

We ordered the seonbi-sang heotjesabap for two plus seafood pajeon, which came to 23,000×2+15,000 = ₩61,000.

It was so generous that I couldn't fit it all in one photo (I'd basically need a drone to capture the whole thing), so I'm sharing the seonbi-sang heotjesabap as a video instead. There was the famous Andong salted mackerel, yellow croaker, and various side dishes too — I'll explain in detail below!

![Seonbi-sang heotjesabap set with sweet potato jeon, shark meat, and fried shrimp](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-08-10jqb-900.webp)

In the photo, top left is sweet potato jeon, top right is shark meat, fried shrimp, and pyeonyuk (boiled sliced meat). Even the sweet potato jeon was piping hot. It was my first time trying shark meat — it tasted a bit like chicken, a fun novelty. I don't really like pyeonyuk so I skipped it. Middle left is gamju (sikhye), jellyfish salad, kimchi, and Andong sikhye. That gamju (sikhye) is genuinely delicious.

![Gamju (sikhye) served with the seonbi-sang set at Gilpung](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-09-1sc3f-900.webp)

I ended up packing some to take home later, haha.

![Andong's red sikhye, colored with chili powder](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-10-b081s-900.webp)

Have you tried Andong's red sikhye? This was my first time — it gets its red color from chili powder. My boyfriend said it reminded him of eoshikhae (fermented fish and rice dish), and looking it up, he was right. Guess he knows his food.

Bottom is the Andong salted mackerel — you have to eat this in Andong, right? The seonbi-sang heotjesabap I ordered came with salted mackerel included, so I got to try everything I wanted to eat in Andong all at once. Total win.

![Full seonbi-sang heotjesabap spread at Gilpung, including Andong salted mackerel](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-11-xj1rh-1200.webp)

Setting the side dishes aside, the item on the far left above is the main heotjesabap.

![Main heotjesabap topped with seasoned namul at Gilpung](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-12-190vg-900.webp)

### How to eat heotjesabap: mix it with soy sauce

Mixing the heotjesabap with soy sauce was next level. It's like a namul (seasoned vegetable) bibimbap, but eating it with soy sauce made it so good. They also gave us chogochujang (vinegared chili paste), but I didn't touch it at all — others might want to compare the two. The namul was seasoned just right.

Middle left had radish soup, the kind eaten during ancestral rites too. It's great to have around once you start craving broth between bites of rice and side dishes. And the far bottom left is the little jeon dish that came with my seafood pajeon — it seemed to have imitation crab, green onion, and meat in it, and it was tasty. Probably a version of sanjeok (skewered meat/veg dish) eaten at rites? Not sure if this is the Andong style, since it was different from the sanjeok I usually eat.

![Table spread with radish soup and a jeon dish resembling ancestral-rite sanjeok](https://img.superchart.com/images/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung/andong-heotjesabap-seonbisang-gilpung-13-guk7t-900.webp)

And here's the seafood pajeon. This actually arrived first, and it smelled so good I dug in right away — which is why my messy little plate keeps showing up in the seonbi-sang heotjesabap photos, haha.

### Sikhye to go at Gilpung for 5,000 won

I mentioned Gilpung's sikhye is really good, right? I paid out of my own pocket and packed some to take home, haha. I went through a phase of being obsessed with award-winning sikhye from all over the country — ordering delivery from here and there — and this one is seriously delicious.

And the value is genuinely great — for ₩5,000, they filled up this container with sikhye. It's pretty big, looked like 1 liter or more to me, though I couldn't confirm the exact volume (if you're packing sikhye at Gilpung, ask them — I visited during a busy time with lots of customers so I didn't get a chance). The next day I kept thinking, I should have packed more sikhye, I should have packed more... haha. Do they not ship it...?

## Is Gilpung worth a visit, and who is it for?

Heotjesabap was one of the dishes I absolutely wanted to try during my Andong trip. Bottom line: Andong Gilpung was satisfying, with generous portions and everything served neatly. Ordering the seonbi-sang heotjesabap set meant it came with not just the main heotjesabap, but also Andong salted mackerel, shark meat, Andong sikhye, and various jeon and side dishes — a great way to sample a wide range of traditional Andong dishes at once.

Best of all, nothing felt like it had been sitting around — the jeon and side dishes arrived warm, which made everything taste even better. Mixing the heotjesabap namul with soy sauce gave it a clean, savory flavor that kept me coming back for more.

Personally, the gamju (sikhye) served alongside was so good that I ended up packing an extra portion for ₩5,000, haha. The container was pretty large — felt like over 1 liter, though I couldn't confirm the exact amount. Just know that even the next day, I kept thinking I should have packed more sikhye... haha.

Gilpung is about 10 minutes by car from Stanford Hotel Andong, so it's a solid option for anyone near the hotel looking for heotjesabap. It also suits anyone touring Hahoe Village or elsewhere in Andong who wants to try traditional local food along the way. The lot is spacious with bus parking, plus group seating and rooms, so it works well for anyone looking for a group-friendly restaurant in Andong. There were group customers when I visited, but as a party of two, it never felt awkward or overwhelming.

- Anyone looking for a heotjesabap restaurant in Andong
- Anyone looking for a restaurant near Stanford Hotel Andong
- Anyone visiting Hahoe Village who wants to try traditional Andong food
- Anyone who wants to sample several local dishes at once, like Andong salted mackerel and heotjesabap
- Anyone looking for an Andong restaurant with easy parking and group seating

Next time I come back, I'll order the heotjesabap again, but I'm definitely packing at least two bottles of sikhye, haha.
