## In short

Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon is a Chinese restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, serving beef knife-shaved noodles and handmade dim sum. We ordered two noodle bowls, xiaolongbao, and Harbin Beer; the chewy uneven noodles and hot, juicy dumplings were the standouts. Verdict: a satisfying revisit for anyone who loves thick noodles and Chinese spices.

Today’s spot is a knife-shaved noodle place near Gangnam Station that I used to visit all the time! It was right in front of my old office, so I’d pop in now and then. (It was packed every single time,,) I went back to Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon, my top pick for knife-shaved noodles in Gangnam. I was craving dumplings too today, so we had xiaolongbao with it!

## Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon near Gangnam Station: Basics

The address is 19 Teheran-ro 1-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and hours are 11:00–22:20, with last orders at 22:00. Parking at the restaurant is difficult, so I recommend a nearby paid lot; check with the restaurant before visiting for closing days and reservations. It’s easy enough to reach from Exit 11 of Gangnam Station, so it works nicely when you have plans in Gangnam.

## Ordering beef knife-shaved noodles and xiaolongbao

We kept it simple: two beef knife-shaved noodles, xiaolongbao, and Harbin Beer. Once you sit down, they bring out zhacai (pickled mustard stem) and peanuts as the basic sides—and you know how you keep reaching for things like that, haha. My partner kept picking at the peanuts while I ate the zhacai.

Beyond the beef knife-shaved noodles, the menu is pretty varied, with youpomian, mala tofu, fried eggplant, guobaorou, and all kinds of handmade dim sum, so it looks great for a group ordering a bit of everything. I tried the fried eggplant on a previous visit, and even this person who really hates eggplant thought it was insanely good!

## Beef knife-shaved noodles with a rich broth

Even from the look of it, the deep color of the broth made me think, oh, this is the real deal.

I have this condition where I make old-man sighing noises whenever I eat something delicious. I was genuinely on a diet, so I was planning not to touch alcohol at all ^^ But after one sip of the broth, I went “ahhh,” then shouted, “Beer, go?” ...Cheers!

And of course, the knife-shaved noodles are the point. They aren’t machine-cut into uniform strands, so their width and thickness vary slightly, giving every bite a lively texture. The thicker bits are chewier while the thinner bits hold the broth really well, which makes them feel different from ordinary beef noodles. I mean, after that description, I hope you can tell how good they are, seriously ^^

There were generous chunks of beef in the broth too, perfect for picking up with the noodles. The broth isn’t completely free of spice aromas, so people who truly dislike Chinese spices may find it a little divisive. (Only the Sichuan knife-shaved noodles were a bit too strong for me before, so we switched dishes; the regular version wasn’t like that at all.)

If you can handle malatang! Go ahead and try the Sichuan one. If you prefer a straightforward galbitang-style broth instead, go for the regular knife-shaved noodles. Everyone’s different, so order to your taste, haha. The noodles themselves are so thick that the portion felt quite filling. (Of course, I couldn’t finish mine because my appetite has gotten smaller, but my partner cleaned the bowl.)

## Xiaolongbao full of hot juices

And this... we were so right to order the xiaolongbao too. Just opening the steamer lid and seeing those glossy little dumplings lined up was already making me hungry ㅠㅠ I recommend letting them cool slightly instead of putting one straight into your mouth.

The juices are hot, so be careful! When you picked one up with chopsticks, the wrapper didn’t go limp and collapse; it was moist but still pleasantly chewy, with broth inside. They were perfect to pick at one by one between bites of noodles. Tear the wrapper just a little when you pick one up and—

the juices come streaming out,,, If you’re going as two, I recommend adding a dim sum order rather than just getting two bowls of noodles!

And when you’re eating Chinese food, it feels a tiny bit sad not to order beer, right...? So we got a bottle of Harbin Beer too ^^ A cold sip now and then felt like it cleared the palate completely, so it was a great pairing. It would be nice to come just for a light drink, too. I held back because it was lunch ,,phew,,, but if it had been dinner, this is absolutely the kind of food to open some baijiu with.

## An interior like a Chinese or Hong Kong film

Personally, the atmosphere at Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon also really stayed with me. The whole place is decorated in wood tones, with wall ornaments, Chinese-character signs, and ceramic accents, so the moment you walk in, it feels distinctly Chinese? in the best way.

No question that it’s a Chinese restaurant! Lots of reviews also mention its Chinese- or Hong Kong-film-like mood.

We sat at a two-person table by the window. The full-height window looked outside, and the seating was slightly separated, which made it comfortable for the two of us to eat. The weather has been so nice lately—if you’re craving hot broth, just go go.

## If you love thick noodles

Considering it’s right in the middle of Gangnam Station, a bowl of beef knife-shaved noodles at around ₩11,000 didn’t feel overwhelmingly expensive by today’s standards. One bowl alone is quite filling, and adding one dim sum dish when dining as two makes the spread feel much more abundant!

Honestly, the downside is that the thick, irregular texture unique to knife-shaved noodles, or the spices, may not be everyone’s thing. But if you’re like me and love chewy noodles + beef noodles + dim sum? I think I’ll be back, haha. Next time I want to try the fried eggplant or mala tofu too. (Personally, I was very satisfied!)

- Easy to access from Gangnam Station
- Recommended for fans of chewy knife-shaved noodles
- A varied dim sum selection, including xiaolongbao
- Pairs well with Harbin Beer
- An exotic Chinese restaurant atmosphere
- Good for a meal for two or a light drink
- But thick noodles or spices may not suit everyone
