This time I went to Upper and Under, a dessert café in Gangnam located between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station. The café uses the whole building, so there were quite a lot of seating options for the middle of Gangnam, and the dessert lineup was genuinely varied.

And photos come out pretty no matter how you snap them, so I really loved it! (cue me bossing everyone around to get my good angle)

This café sits between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, and public transit seemed like the easier way to get there. I walked from the Gangnam Station side, and it's tucked slightly into an alley off the main road. There's a gorgeous tree right in front of the entrance, so I took a bunch of photos before even going in!

## How wide is the dessert lineup at Upper and Under?

The moment you walk into Upper and Under, you notice the huge variety of desserts. It's not just cakes — there are baked goods like financiers and madeleines too, and the display case is packed with large cakes.

From raspberry-style cakes to lemon cake to tiramisu, if you love sweets you'll probably spend a while deciding haha

With tiramisu, Basque cheesecake, financiers, madeleines and more, the dessert variety meant there were tons of women there too! I couldn't help but pick several myself haha (choosing just one dessert... how does anyone even do that) For drinks I went with the signature cream coffee, plus an ade!

## What the lemon pound cake and fig financier taste like

Upper and Under's lemon pound cake had a cream layer nearly as thick as the cake itself. You can probably tell just from the photo how thick that cream layer is... 😂 The soft cream on top was really substantial, and the yellow pound sponge underneath felt super fluffy!

Taking a bite, the cream and cake were basically split fifty-fifty, which won me over visually since I love cream. There was lemon on top too, so instead of feeling like a heavy dessert overall, it had a nice bright, tart edge to it.

Eating it alongside a smooth, rich drink like the cream coffee really felt like proper dessert time haha (I'd walked so much I was exhausted, so I badly needed a sugar refill!!!)

The fig financier was also really tasty and paired nicely alongside. I'd recommend this combo: one big cake plus one small baked good!

There were also raspberry-colored cakes and tiramisu in the display case that looked pretty great, so next time I'd like to try other menu items too.

## What are the floors and seating like?

Personally, what stood out most at this Gangnam Station location of Upper and Under was the space. Concrete floors mixed with white and gray-toned furniture give it a slightly vintage yet minimal feel! No need to go all the way to Seongsu — this basically is a cute Seongsu-style café right here,,,

Worn wood stairs, white brick, and steel frame elements come together to really give off that feel of a café you'd find in Seongsu-dong! And since the space isn't concentrated on just one floor but spread from basement to upper floors, it's actually much bigger than it looks from outside.

There are plenty of two-person tables and window seats too, making it pretty good for dates. We sat by the window, and with trees visible outside, it felt less cramped than expected despite being right in the middle of Gangnam.

That said, there were quite a lot of people even when I visited, and it can get pretty noisy on weekend afternoons! Seriously so many people!!!

## Is Upper and Under worth a visit?

Upper and Under has plenty of dessert options and a spacious layout, making it a solid choice for chatting with friends or a date when you can't decide where to go after a meal. Browsing the desserts is genuinely fun, so next time I'd like to try the raspberry-style cake or the tiramisu!
