## In short

Manmok is a Japanese restaurant near Exit 2 of Seonleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, known for eel rice bowls and hanwoo (Korean beef) nabe hot pot. Two friends came for dinner and shared a half-portion eel rice bowl (26,000 won) and 260g of hanwoo nabe (63,000 won), and found the beef is best lifted out the moment the broth starts to bubble. With light seasoning and a calm dining room, Manmok suits a quiet team dinner or a date.

I'd been wanting eel rice bowl in a quiet setting for a while, so I visited Manmok near Seonleung Station. It's famous for its eel rice bowl, but you can also order hanwoo (Korean beef) nabe, so I tried both.

## Where is Manmok, and what are its hours?

Manmok is a short, easy walk from Seonleung Station Exit 2. It's open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 10pm, with a break time from 3pm to 5pm. It's closed on Sundays, so worth checking before you go.

- Half eel rice bowl: ₩26,000
- Hanwoo nabe 260g: ₩63,000

## What is the atmosphere like at Manmok?

Manmok has a wood-toned interior. Looks pretty upscale, right?

Sure enough, the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt really upscale. The dark wood tones and soft lighting made it calm, and the tables were spaced generously apart, which I loved. It's not loud or bustling at all — completely quiet and composed, so it'd be great for anyone who wants to actually talk while they eat.

The interior is seriously great.

## Manmok's side dishes: chawanmushi and acorn jelly

This is how Manmok sets the basic table. You get side dishes like myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaves), baek-kimchi (white kimchi), and mu-saengchae (seasoned radish strips), plus four kinds of sauce on individual plates. Even before the main dishes arrived, the whole spread felt so neat and tidy that it put me in a good mood. Every side dish, sauce, and bowl was arranged so cleanly — it felt like being properly taken care of.

They also give you acorn jelly (dotorimuk), and it's genuinely delicious. The dressed lettuce salad next to the acorn jelly has a tangy-sweet seasoning, so I ate it together with the eel haha. Both the acorn jelly and the other side dishes are mild, not sharp at all, which was great for gently waking up my appetite before the mains.

Here's the menu. Grilled eel, eel rice bowl, and nabe are the mains!! I ordered the half eel rice bowl and the hanwoo nabe! Haha.

Order the half eel rice bowl and they bring out a whole spread like this — a salad, a clear soup, and Japanese-style steamed egg custard, chawanmushi. They said since it was dinner, they gave us two chawanmushi ^^

## Half-portion eel rice bowl, 26,000 won: enough for two to share?

The moment the lid came off Manmok's eel rice bowl, the glossy sheen looked absolutely delicious. The eel had clearly been steamed gently before grilling, so the meat wasn't dry at all — really moist! The outside had a smoky char and a sweet-savory glaze, but the sauce wasn't overpowering, so you could really taste the eel itself haha. Even people who find eel's richness a bit much could eat this cleanly!!

Since it's a half portion, it was just the right amount to share alongside the hanwoo nabe. The two of us just ordered the half rice bowl and kept it light, but honestly, even eating solo, a half eel rice bowl would be plenty! Haha.

## Hanwoo nabe 260g, 63,000 won: how does the broth taste?

The eel rice bowl was great, but honestly the hanwoo nabe stole the show for me that day!! The hanwoo, tofu, mushrooms, napa cabbage, and bok choy came arranged generously and neatly, so it looked tidy even before we started cooking it. The broth wasn't oily or heavily seasoned — it was clear and really clean! But it definitely wasn't bland either — as the beef and vegetables simmered, a subtle savory depth came through. It was the kind of healthy-but-genuinely-delicious flavor that sits easy on your stomach. The broth was so good I kept spooning it up haha.

### When to lift the hanwoo out of the nabe

One tip here: don't overcook the hanwoo nabe. Since the beef is so tender, I'd recommend pulling it out as soon as it starts bubbling. If you keep boiling it, the tender meat can turn tough ㅠㅠ Pull out the beef first while it's at its best, then slowly cook the mushrooms and vegetables after — that timing worked perfectly!

![A bite of hanwoo wrapped with mushroom and bok choy, dipped in sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/manmok-seolleung-hanwoo-nabe-eel-rice/manmok-seolleung-hanwoo-nabe-eel-rice-14-bsrwu-675.webp)

I wrapped the hanwoo with mushrooms and bok choy and dipped it in the sauce, and that combo was genuinely amazing. The tender meat, the mushroom aroma, and the crunchy bok choy all came together, with the sauce adding extra savoriness — I kept making more wraps. At the end, drinking the broth, now fully infused with vegetable flavor, warmed me up from the inside.

No photo of this, but once we finished the meal, they brought out ice cream for dessert haha. Ending on something cold and sweet after the warm nabe felt like the finish of a proper course — really nice.

## Honest verdict on dinner at Manmok

Overall, Manmok's food isn't over-seasoned and feels clean, so even after a satisfying meal out, my stomach didn't feel heavy. The neat table setting and calm space were especially memorable.

This would suit anyone looking for a quiet dinner spot near Seonleung Station or a nicely atmospheric date restaurant, or anyone who wants to enjoy eel rice bowl and warm hanwoo nabe together. I'd love to come back next time I'm craving hanwoo nabe haha. It'd also work well for a solo meal — I'd happily come back and eat the half eel rice bowl alone. I was craving something healthy and delicious exactly like this today, and it was so satisfying!!
