With the weak yen these days my feed keeps showing Japan trips, and the yakiniku always looks so good ㅠㅠ I'd been holding out, and then I heard there was a yakiniku place near my house that's just as good as what you'd eat in Japan, so I couldn't resist and took the kids to try it haha. It really was as delicious as the yakiniku I had in Japan, so let me introduce Yakiniku Pungyeong, a Uiwang beef restaurant!

## Where is Yakiniku Pungyeong? Parking and opening hours

Yakiniku Pungyeong is at 28 Botdeul 2-gil, Uiwang, Gyeonggi, about a 12-minute walk from Indeogwon Station, near Mulbit Neighborhood Park. Hours are Mon–Fri 16:00–23:00 (last order 22:00), Sat 15:00–22:00 (last order 21:00), closed on Sundays.

It's a bit of a walk from the station and there's decent parking, so I'd recommend driving — there's space for about 8 cars in front of the restaurant. Free parking, and they have a baby chair too.

Inside, the seats have carefully installed partitions between them so it felt very private — this seemed like a great spot for business dinners or treating important guests. One side had light partitions that could be cleared to fit a fairly large group dinner! It's a really good spot for a group dinner near Indeogwon, and honestly, beef is the best choice for a group dinner — I think everyone would be so happy eating here haha.

We were seated by the window, and the lush green park view was so nice! The cool autumn air made it feel almost like eating outdoors — it was lovely haha.

The menu had various cuts of yakiniku, side dishes, and add-ons, and being a yakiniku place, the drink menu was also quite extensive. We skipped it since we had the kids with us, but the vibe was perfect for a drink or two.

They're also running a variety of review events — instead of just a drink, they give a free yukhoe (raw beef) gamtae (seaweed) rice ball, so definitely take part!

They gave us a baby chair, of course, and also a booster cushion for our first child so she could eat comfortably too! Though there was no kids' cutlery besides forks, so we used the rice bowl lid as a plate for the kids!

## Premium wagyu beef tongue with lemon juice and scallion salad

The meat came out quickly after ordering, and just look at that gorgeous color! The plating even came with leaves and flowers, so it was a treat for the eyes too.

We decided to start with the wagyu premium beef tongue. Beef tongue is known for its chewy yet tender texture and rich juiciness, and they'd scored it carefully so it was even more tender to eat. It came with lemon and scallion salad, and they explained that after grilling, you're supposed to squeeze a little lemon juice on top and eat it with the scallion salad!

We only lightly cooked it over the charcoal, and grilled it a bit more for the kids — can you see how the fat is just glistening ㅜㅜ

It was my first time eating beef tongue, and the fatty chewiness was so luxurious and delicious ㅠㅠ Especially eaten with that scallion salad — the salty flavor paired so well with the fat. My husband said the scallion salad was amazing and kept piling it on top of the other meats too haha.

## Snowflake short rib: tender enough that both kids kept eating

After the tongue came the snowflake short rib and marinated snowflake short rib — eat the unseasoned first, then the marinated, that's the rule, right? True to its name, the snowflake short rib had marbling that looked like snow had fallen on the meat. Just looking at it before it was even cooked, I could tell it would be incredibly tender.

Whoever grilled it, they grilled it perfectly. I dipped a piece in salt and ate it, and it was the most tender beef I've ever had in my life... I barely chewed it a few times before it melted in my mouth.

Kids' tastes are so honest, and that day the kids ate like never before 😆

## Marinated snowflake short rib: the best dish of the night

I was curious looking at the marinated short rib because it wasn't the usual brown color! I wondered if they'd braised it in something other than soy sauce, wondering about the restaurant's secret, and then they put it on the grill next.

To cut to the conclusion, this was the best dish. You have to order this. It was tender, of course, and the marinade seasoned it just enough that it was delicious even without dipping it in anything. If you had this with a drink, it would go down way too easily.

## Grilled cheese, doenjang jjigae and the free extras that kept coming

We also ordered the grilled cheese for the kids since they love cheese, and it turned out to be cheese grilled right on the griddle plate! It was a great choice for the kids haha — they ate it so happily that I didn't even get a taste 😅

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) is a total must-try too!! Yakiniku is delicious but it's a fatty cut of meat, so finishing with a spicy doenjang jjigae was the perfect ending 😋 The broth was full of meat and had an amazing flavor, and it was mildly spicy, so even I, who can't handle spice well, enjoyed it so much haha.

What really impressed me that day was the never-ending stream of extras. They kept bringing out pickled tomato, green grape cheese canapés, cream cheese-stuffed dried persimmon, and even melon — I was so surprised by the owner's generosity 🫢

And they were all so good we finished every single one haha. That canapé especially was so delicious I wanted to know the recipe! It was sweet and tangy, and our first child kept reaching for more 😆

## Can you eat yakiniku in Uiwang with young kids?

I never thought about bringing kids to a yakiniku place, but here they have a baby chair, the meat is tender and delicious so the kids ate well, and above all it was just so tasty that it was a family meal that was a real joy to eat 🥰 If you're looking for a kid-friendly restaurant near Indeogwon, I recommend Yakiniku Pungyeong, a Uiwang beef restaurant!
