## In short

Yubok Kalguksu Yongin Korean Folk Village Branch is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and jjukkumi (spicy baby octopus) restaurant in Bora-dong, Yongin, a five-minute walk from the Korean Folk Village. On a weekday evening the jjukkumi set for two costs 30,000 won and the restaurant's best-seller, the jjukkumi seafood and chive pancake, 15,000 won, with pufferfish-broth kalguksu that tastes clean and keeps its noodles springy. Yubok Kalguksu takes single-portion orders, so solo diners are welcome, and the dessert corner by the entrance pours free Starbucks bean coffee.

## Where to park near the Korean Folk Village

When I visited Yubok Kalguksu Yongin Korean Folk Village Branch, there was plenty of parking space in front and beside the restaurant. If that's full, the Jigokcheon Bora-dong public parking lot three minutes away on foot is free, and using the Folk Village parking lot even gets you a ₩2,000 discount — so parking is really not a worry here!

## The dessert corner at the entrance, and is there a wait?

Right as you walk in, there's a dessert corner with snacks and even coffee! It was great that after the meal you could enjoy Starbucks bean coffee either hot or iced.

![Waiting list at Yubok Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-08-8qq8j-900.webp)

There's also a waiting list — especially on weekends, when it gets busy with customers, so I'd recommend visiting outside peak hours.

## Inside Yubok Kalguksu

![Spacious, pleasant seating inside Yubok Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-09-1az6u-900.webp)

The interior is fairly spacious and pleasant. I visited on a weekday evening, and there was plenty of seating.

## Menu prices and can you eat alone?

![Menu board of Yubok Kalguksu listing pufferfish kalguksu and jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-10-1mpmc-900.webp)

The menu is varied, with pufferfish seafood kalguksu, chive jjukkumi, king meat mandu (dumplings), and jjukkumi seafood chive pancake, among others. We ordered the kalguksu jjukkumi set for two and the best-menu jjukkumi seafood chive pancake. You can also order jjukkumi or kalguksu as single-portion à la carte dishes, so it's good for solo dining too.

![Instructions on how to enjoy kalguksu, placed on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-11-1irum-900.webp)

Each table has instructions for how to enjoy the kalguksu, so you just follow them as written.

## The side dishes that come with every meal

![Basic side dishes: kimchi and yuzu radish salad](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-12-10vrk-900.webp)

The basic side dishes are kimchi and yuzu radish salad, and you can grab more from the self-serve bar if you run out.

![Self-serve side dish corner](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-13-1ft2j-900.webp)

![Barley rice and kalguksu seafood served first](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-14-1aywj-900.webp)

Not long after ordering, the barley rice and kalguksu seafood came out right away, and it was great that tables with kids got a free baby-portion rice.

## Jjukkumi set for two, 30,000 won, plus the 15,000-won seafood chive pancake

![Table spread of jjukkumi set for two and jjukkumi seafood chive pancake](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-15-xntvb-1200.webp)

Honestly, the portions in the set were generous enough for two people on their own, but since the jjukkumi seafood chive pancake is the best-menu item, I couldn't resist ordering that too.

![Pot of pufferfish-broth kalguksu with live clams and omandungi](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-16-1xmgc-900.webp)

Yubok Kalguksu's broth is made from wild milbok (pufferfish) simmered for a long time, loaded with live clams, oysters, and omandungi (sea squirt-like shellfish) delivered fresh the same day.

### Pufferfish-broth kalguksu cooked by the hourglass timer

Timing matters a lot when boiling kalguksu, right? Eating it while timing with an hourglass, the noodles were springy and chewy with a really great texture. The pufferfish broth base gave it a refreshing, clean flavor that was really appealing, and the seafood was fresh and generously portioned, which was satisfying. Overall it wasn't too intense and felt easy on the stomach, so it was comfortable to eat without any heaviness. I paired it with kimchi along the way too, and its crisp, cool, spicy flavor went really well with the kalguksu.

### Mixing barley rice into the stir-fried jjukkumi

Next was the stir-fried jjukkumi, which looked deliciously spicy at first glance and made my mouth water immediately.

![Spicy-looking stir-fried jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-19-1m5nw-900.webp)

![Jjukkumi and cabbage mixed with barley rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok/yongin-minsokchon-kalguksu-jjukkumi-yubok-20-1gd1s-900.webp)

The jjukkumi alone was springy and chewy with a really excellent texture. It's tasty eaten just as is, but mixing it with barley rice, savory sesame oil, crisp cabbage, and refreshing yuzu radish salad made the combination absolutely great! The spicy flavor of the jjukkumi combined with the various ingredients made it impossible not to finish the whole bowl.

### Why the jjukkumi seafood and chive pancake is the best-seller

Lastly, the jjukkumi seafood chive pancake. Even though it didn't feel like it had a lot of pancake or frying flour, the crispy texture really came through and it was genuinely delicious. It was packed generously with chives, and biting into small freshwater shrimp and jjukkumi here and there gave it varied texture too. The crispy texture of the pancake combined with the savory depth of the jjukkumi and seafood made for a satisfying way to finish the meal.
