## In short

Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch is a house-made noodle shabu kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant on Gomae-ro in Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. On a weekday morning three of us — my mother, my sister and me — ordered three servings of chadol minari ssam kalguksu and ate it as a course, from the minari wraps and galchisokjeot (fermented hairtail innards) to noodles cooked for five minutes by a sand timer, then bought perilla and sesame oil from the mill counter by the register. With free kkakdugi fried rice and misugaru (roasted grain drink) for dessert, Jangwongap Kalguksu made a satisfying family meal out.

I had a bit of free time on a weekday morning, so my mom, my sister and I went out for shabu kalguksu together. This is one of the real deal spots among Yongin Giheung kalguksu restaurants — I've paid my own way and been back multiple times 👍👍 I'd heard for ages there was a good kalguksu place near Lotte Outlet Yongin Giheung, so I was curious. Here's our review after the three of us ate ourselves stuffed at Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch 💗

The parking lot is spacious too, so it's easy to bring your parents along. Even though we came on a weekday lunch, by the time we left the place was almost completely full. If there's a wait even on a weekday lunch, weekends must be even busier, so I'd recommend going with plenty of time to spare.

Right as you walk in, there's a message from the whole Jangwongap Kalguksu staff posted on the wall 🫢 — you can really feel their pride in making their own noodles in-house. At a good restaurant, your heart starts racing before the food even arrives!!

The restaurant is very spacious, and the floor-to-ceiling windows let in so much light that the whole meal felt cheerful. They say the rice used for the fried rice is top-grade domestic new-harvest rice, so it's clearly not just a throwaway side dish — you can tell real care went into it. The kimchi isn't just any kimchi either — it's made with domestic Uiseong garlic, pollack, and Namhae anchovies.

## How to eat at Jangwongap Kalguksu: the staff's tips

At Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch, staff walk first-time visitors through exactly how to eat, in great detail. The order is: chadol (sliced beef brisket) shabu → minari (water dropwort) wrap → galchisokjeot → kalguksu → fried rice.

![Sign explaining how to eat at Jangwongap Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings-08-1jz2b-900.webp)

![Sesame oil sauce and galchisokjeot side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings-09-nvivc-900.webp)

To sum it up simply:

- 1️⃣ Blanch the chadol brisket in the broth like shabu-shabu, wrap it in fresh minari, and dip it once in sesame oil sauce
- 2️⃣ Then add galchisokjeot on top and dip in the sesame oil sauce again — completely different flavor
- 3️⃣ The blanched minari and mushrooms also go great with the soy sauce dip
- 4️⃣ Once you've finished the shabu, add the house-made kalguksu noodles to the broth, set the sand timer for 5 minutes, and eat from there — apparently the texture changes noticeably with time: 6 minutes chewy → 7 minutes springy → 8 minutes bouncy → 9 minutes fluffy → 10 minutes soft
- 5️⃣ They recommended trying one strand of noodle dipped in sesame oil sauce around the 8-minute mark

## Chadol minari ssam kalguksu for three: how does the signature taste?

The three of us ordered three servings of chadol minari ssam kalguksu. It's Jangwongap's flagship signature dish! The king oyster mushrooms even had a cute little 'Jangwongap' stamp on them.

The fresh minari came out looking really fresh. Blanching the meat, wrapping it in minari, topping it with galchisokjeot, then dipping it in sesame oil sauce — honestly, pure bliss 🤤 The noodles were the flat style, but chewy and plump — genuinely the number one texture among all the kalguksu noodles I've ever had!! The spicy Uiseong garlic kimchi side dish also did its job whetting our appetite.

### The peach bibim mandu we didn't get to try

That day they had Jochiwon peach bibim mandu (dumplings tossed in a sauce), a limited 20-a-day menu made with peach vinegar, pear, and apple sauce, which had me curious — but we're all small eaters and were already too full to try it ㅠㅠ

![Sign for the limited 20-a-day Jochiwon peach bibim mandu](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings-18-8za4d-900.webp)

Looking at the menu, apparently some people come in just for the kalguksu-plus-mandu combo on its own — after tasting the house-made noodles, I completely get why!!!

### Free perilla oil kkakdugi fried rice and free baby meals

What I liked most about Jangwongap Kalguksu was that the kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice, made with 100% perilla oil, is served free 🫢 (they said the more you stir-fry it, the better it tastes, so we mixed it diligently haha)

![Free perilla-oil kkakdugi fried rice served at the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings-20-1wx5y-900.webp)

If you bring a baby, they'll give the baby a free meal too, so it sounds great for families with little ones.

## Misugaru dessert and mill-pressed sesame oil: is Jangwongap Kalguksu worth it?

![Self-serve area with misugaru and snacks](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings-21-x8oi7-900.webp)

![A cup of misugaru brought over as dessert](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings-22-x3yn0-900.webp)

After eating, there's a separate self-serve area with unlimited misugaru and snacks, which was great both for waiting and as a little dessert.

![Mill-pressed perilla and sesame oil for sale near the register](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings/jangwongap-kalguksu-yongin-giheung-three-servings-23-1l6do-900.webp)

Right by the register, they also sell perilla oil and sesame oil pressed at their own mill. My mom snapped up a bottle too!!

A great kalguksu restaurant in Yongin for a family meal or an outing with a baby in tow. If you're near Gomae-dong, Yongin, or Lotte Outlet Yongin Giheung, definitely stop by~🩷
