## In short

Cafe Dongi Yeungnam University Art Center Branch is a Korean restaurant serving single-person set meals on the 2nd floor of the Cheonma Art Center Grand Hall at Yeungnam University in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk. On a rainy Sunday evening a family of four with two children ordered the spicy baby octopus set, the beef brisket doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) set and the shoulder-cut Japanese-style curry set, adding a small nuruk-aged tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake); the unlimited self-bar of fried eggs (grade 2 eggshell number), five-grain rice, seaweed and barley candy let the younger child finish a full bowl of rice without a separate kids' meal. With 4 hours of free parking and floor-to-ceiling window views, Cafe Dongi is a safe bet for eating out with kids.

A must-visit restaurant near the Cheonma Art Center that nails both atmosphere and value! Cafe Dongi Yeungnam University Art Center Branch.

Last weekend, on a rainy Sunday evening, we took the kids to book an air bounce at the Gyeongsan Youth Knowledge Playground, and on the way home we stopped for dinner. I'd wanted to visit Cafe Dongi Yeungnam University Art Center Branch for a while, and finally made it there! Cafe Dongi is a chain, and this Yeungnam University Art Center location is apparently their 8th store!

From the stylish logo that reminds me of Blue Bottle, to the luxurious interior with a hotel-lounge feel, to the neat, hearty table settings — dining while looking out at the rain through the floor-to-ceiling windows was so satisfying. Let me share our family dinner review.

*The 12-person group room!*

Cafe Dongi Yeungnam University Art Center Branch also has rooms — three 12-person rooms and two 8-person rooms. For room use, phone reservations at least 2 days in advance are required! I took a quick look and the rooms were really clean and spacious, perfect for large family gatherings, small get-togethers, or company dinners.

## Floor-to-ceiling window views and a hotel-lounge interior

Going up to the 2nd floor of Yeungnam University's Cheonma Art Center, a stylish logo and a warm wood-toned, sophisticated space appeared. The interior really impressed me — like stepping into a high-end hotel lounge.

![High-ceilinged hall interior at Cafe Dongi Yeungnam University Art Center Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-06-1fst8-966.webp)
*The ceiling was so high and the space felt so pleasant♡*

*The wooden tables were nice and spacious, with plenty of room between them!*

The day we went it was drizzling steadily, and the unobstructed view of the Yeungnam University campus landscape through the floor-to-ceiling windows, mixed with the falling rain, was incredibly atmospheric. The tables were also spaced generously, so the serving robot had plenty of room to move, and we could eat comfortably with the kids without feeling cramped.

## The unlimited self-bar: fried eggs, five-grain rice, seaweed

At the self-bar of Cafe Dongi Yeungnam University Art Center Branch, fried eggs, five-grain rice, seaweed, barley candy, and heotgae tea were all set up so we could help ourselves as much as we wanted. When we arrived, they told us the five-grain rice was freshly cooking, so we'd have to wait a bit.

We ordered our menu first, then headed to the self-bar. Seeing the self-bar, I was truly amazed — there was a huge pile of 'grade 2 eggshell number' eggs! 🍳 Three burners and three frying pans!

They tasted so much better than the ones I fry at home — being grade 2 eggs, the freshness really stood out. I lost count of how many fried eggs I made while waiting for the food. The kids ate them up happily, and my husband and I enjoyed them too.

## Cafe Dongi menu and what our family ordered

We visited while hungry, so we ended up ordering way too much 😋. Since we ordered it along with meal items, we got a 10% discount on tangsuyuk, so we added a small tangsuyuk too!

We enjoyed frying and eating eggs at the self-bar while waiting, and then the serving robot came to deliver our food.

### Spicy baby octopus (jjukkumi) Korean set meal

![Spicy baby octopus set meal served in a personal brazier](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-16-97bq0-966.webp)

My husband wanted baby octopus, so we ordered this one. It came out neatly on a brown tray with a personal brazier, which looked great and was hot and delicious! The side dishes — dried radish, stir-fried anchovies, pickled dandelion greens, and more — were all clean-tasting and good on their own. The baby octopus was really chewy with a smoky, spicy aroma, and dipping it into the mayonnaise sauce that came with it was the perfect combo! It also came with omija tea (five-flavor berry tea) for dessert, which was a nice, clean finish.

### Beef brisket doenjang jjigae set meal

![Beef brisket doenjang jjigae hot pot full of ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-18-1tzpv-966.webp)
*The stone pot was huge! Packed with ingredients too!*

My choice was the beef brisket doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). They said it's blended from three types of traditional soybean paste, and the moment I took a sip of the broth, I let out an involuntary 'wow~'.

The basic doenjang jjigae broth that came with the octopus set was already refreshing, but my husband tasted the beef brisket version and said it was way better, then kept scooping it into his own bowl 🤣. It was packed with tofu and meat, and mixing it into rice gave that comforting, deep flavor unique to Korean home cooking — the best!

### Shoulder-cut Japanese-style curry set meal

![Shoulder-cut Japanese-style curry set served with perilla seaweed soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-19-mkw34-966.webp)

Our older kid asked for curry, so we ordered this — it came with side dishes and a perilla seaweed soup.

After one bite of the curry, her eyes went wide and she gave a big thumbs up 👍. The shoulder-cut meat was really tender, not spicy at all, with a mild sweet and savory curry flavor — she scraped the whole plate clean!

### Dongi nuruk-aged tangsuyuk (small)

![Small nuruk-aged tangsuyuk and dipping sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-20-hn203-m-966.webp)

![Cross-section of a thick, crispy piece of nuruk-aged tangsuyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-21-v7yrw-966.webp)

They said it's aged with traditional rice nuruk (fermentation starter) and doesn't use flour, making it a healthier tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). The meat pieces were huge, crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. We cut them into bite-sized pieces with scissors and dipped them into the tangy-sweet sauce, and the kids devoured it. A must-order — highly recommend! They also had a mini tangsuyuk option.

### Crispy bite-sized kimchi jeon

![Crispy bite-sized kimchi jeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-22-oo33s-966.webp)

![Plate with several pieces of kimchi jeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-23-u1vt3-966.webp)

Drawn in by the friendly price of ₩2,900, we ordered kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake)! It was more like a two-bite size rather than one bite, but exactly the right size — crispy all the way from the edge to the center. It was a nice, light side to add on. My husband and I each had a piece, and our older kid had two, haha.

## What do kids eat at Cafe Dongi? A self-bar plate instead of a kids' set

We originally planned to order a separate kids' set for our younger one, but since the self-bar had five-grain rice, seaweed, and fried eggs, combining those with the stir-fried anchovies from our set worked so well! Dipping the rice lightly into the doenjang jjigae broth, she finished a whole bowl. If you're visiting with kids, this combo is definitely worth trying.

![Barley candy dessert from the self-bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner/cafe-dongi-yeungnam-family-korean-dinner-24-1n3nt-966.webp)

After the meal, we finished off perfectly with the savory barley candy from the self-bar for dessert. I thought we might have ordered a bit too much, but it was so good we scraped the last bite clean before leaving! Finished dishes and trays can be returned to the self-return counter.

## Verdict: 5 reasons to bring the family to Cafe Dongi

- Great location for kids & perfect parking — spacious since it's inside the Yeungnam University campus, with 4 hours free parking (must register before leaving)
- Excellent value with a variety of Korean dishes — generous, neat single-serving sets at a friendly price
- Trustworthy ingredients — premium Gimpo Geum rice milled within 14 days, unlimited grade-2 eggshell eggs, rice nuruk-aged tangsuyuk, three-blend traditional doenjang, and more thoughtful ingredients
- Unlimited self-bar — enjoy as much fried egg, five-grain rice, seaweed, and barley candy as you like!
- Top-tier atmosphere & large rooms available — a luxurious hotel-lounge vibe, with a great floor-to-ceiling window view even on rainy days! Five large rooms make it great for family gatherings or company dinners too!

We all left full and happy after our meal at Cafe Dongi Yeungnam University Art Center Branch — highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good restaurant in Gyeongsan!! I'd give it a 200% chance of returning! ❤️
