## In short

Chobeoljip Apgujeong Rodeo Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant specialising in pre-seared samgyeopsal (pork belly), near Apgujeong Rodeo Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The thick-cut pork belly arrives already browned on the outside, so it needs only a quick finish on the griddle, and bean sprouts and radish cook on one side of the griddle alongside perilla leaf and lettuce wraps and aged kimchi. With no grilling to fuss over, Chobeoljip made an easy meal for a long catch-up with someone you haven't seen in a while.

If you're looking for a good samgyeopsal (pork belly) spot near Apgujeong Rodeo Station, keep Chobeoljip in mind. I recently visited this place known as an Apgujeong Rodeo pork belly restaurant, and since the meat comes pre-seared (chobeol), there was way less pressure on the grilling side.

At most BBQ places, you end up busy checking the griddle mid-conversation, but here I could just focus on the meal without worrying about that. Let me walk through the visit with photos. When I pick a BBQ restaurant, I usually look first at how fresh the meat is, how easy it is to grill, and what side dishes come with it — so this time I checked Chobeoljip closely against those same three criteria.

## How to walk to Chobeoljip from Apgujeong Rodeo Station, and what the room feels like

Chobeoljip is close to Apgujeong Rodeo Station, so it was easy to find. Walking out of the station and along the road, a big sign in front of the shop made it easy to spot without getting lost. Inside, the mood was calm and clean, with a griddle at every table giving off that lively BBQ-restaurant energy. There were posters on the wall showing off the shop's concept, which made for good photo spots too.

It felt like a good fit for a get-together with friends, dinner after work, or a casual group meal. During busy hours, it's worth checking ahead so you can visit more comfortably. Another plus: it's a spot you can drop into without much hassle whenever you want a hearty meat meal in the trendy Apgujeong Rodeo neighborhood.

## Pre-seared pork belly: one quick finish on the griddle

Chobeoljip's biggest feature is, true to its name, pre-seared pork belly. The samgyeopsal that arrives on the griddle already has a golden-browned surface from the initial sear, so all you need is a quick finish on the griddle before eating. Picking up a thick-cut slice, you could really feel the thickness, and the more I chewed, the more savory flavor came through. The outside was appetizingly cooked while the inside stayed moist, keeping the juices intact. Not having to flip the meat repeatedly seemed like it would be helpful for anyone who's not confident grilling. I especially liked that there was no risk of burning the meat while caught up in conversation. On one side of the griddle, bean sprouts and radish grill alongside, soaking up the meat's fat and turning into a treat on their own. Watching them sizzle away on the griddle naturally gets your appetite going. The clean, appetizing color of the meat's cut surface also made it great for photos.

## Bean sprouts, radish, wraps and aged kimchi on the side

![A wrap bite with meat and bean sprouts on top](https://img.superchart.com/images/apgujeong-rodeo-chobeol-pork-belly-bean-sprouts/apgujeong-rodeo-chobeol-pork-belly-bean-sprouts-11-u5q61-900.webp)

You can't have samgyeopsal without wraps. Piling meat, bean sprouts, and a spoonful of rice onto perilla leaf and lettuce and wrapping it up cut through the pork belly's richness cleanly. The combination with a bit of spicy sauce on top was especially addictive. The salty seasoned greens and chili side dishes cut the greasiness, so my chopsticks kept reaching for them.

![Bean sprouts and radish grilling at the edge of the griddle](https://img.superchart.com/images/apgujeong-rodeo-chobeol-pork-belly-bean-sprouts/apgujeong-rodeo-chobeol-pork-belly-bean-sprouts-14-m40xg-900.webp)

![Pre-seared pork belly served with aged kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/apgujeong-rodeo-chobeol-pork-belly-bean-sprouts/apgujeong-rodeo-chobeol-pork-belly-bean-sprouts-15-1x4wp-900.webp)

The aroma of the perilla leaf and the crunchy texture of the bean sprouts blended with the meat so every bite stayed interesting. Eating it with rice added heft, making it a proper meal on its own. There were plenty of wrap vegetables, so it was easy to balance meat and greens and enjoy several wraps without worry. And on top of all that, the aged kimchi was excellent.

## Three ways to eat Chobeoljip's pre-seared pork belly

Start by tasting the meat plain first, without anything else. You get the full nuttiness of the pre-seared surface that way. Next, wrap it in perilla leaf or lettuce with the side dishes, and finally, try it over rice with the sauce. Enjoying it these three ways makes the same pork belly taste completely different each time. Grilling the bean sprouts crispy at the edge of the griddle to add on really brings out the texture, so I'd definitely recommend trying that.

### What to order to round out the meal

Once you've had your fill of pork belly, finish with the leftover wrap vegetables and side dishes alongside rice. A bowl of rice after the rich meat fills you up, and eating it with the salty side dishes wraps things up cleanly right to the last bite. Leaving after just the meat can feel like something's missing, but carrying the meal through to rice like this makes the whole thing feel complete.

## What to know before you go to Chobeoljip

The restaurant can get busy during meal hours, so it's worth checking on reservations or waits before visiting. If you're coming with a larger group, it's also a good idea to ask about seating arrangements in advance.

If it's your first visit, asking the staff about the pre-sear and how much more finishing it needs will help you enjoy it even more.

## Is Chobeoljip Apgujeong Rodeo worth it?

On this visit, the condition of the meat, the side dish spread, and the shop's atmosphere all came together nicely. Above all, the pre-searing gave the meal a relaxed pace, which was great for a long conversation with someone I hadn't seen in a while. I think the biggest advantage of Chobeoljip is that the energy you'd normally spend grilling can go into the conversation and the food instead.

Apgujeong Rodeo has no shortage of restaurant options, but this is one I'd come back to whenever I want to enjoy meat with ease. Next time, I'd like to come with family or friends and try out different combinations.
