## A convenient spot for a quick solo meal near Gyodae Station

Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) is near Exit 1 of Gyodae Station. It is close enough to the station to make getting there by subway easy. It also felt very accessible for anyone who, like me, is in the Gyodae area for an errand and needs somewhere to eat.

There are especially lots of office workers around here, so it is a great location for eating quickly by yourself before heading on your way. With a gimbap (seaweed rice roll) shop, it is easy to think of takeout first, but Halls Gimbap Main Branch also has a well-prepared space for dining in. So it seemed like a good option not only for takeout, but also for people like me looking for a good solo meal near Gyodae Station.

## Bar tables and a self-service corner

Once inside, I found several bar tables that are ideal for eating alone. When dining solo, one of the things I think about most is sitting alone at a huge table, but having so many bar tables definitely made that feel less awkward.

There is also an outdoor table for four, so on a nice day it looked like a pleasant place for a group to sit and eat together.

One side of the shop had drinks and ramyeon on display, along with bonito-stock broth for anyone who wanted it with their meal.

When you are eating gimbap or dakgangjeong (sweet crispy Korean fried chicken), sometimes you start craving a warm broth, so I was quietly happy to see a self-service corner like this.

After finishing, you simply clear your dishes at the return station, which keeps things neat and easy. Overall, the layout is well suited to stopping by alone for a quick meal, so I thought it would be quite a nice place for anyone seeking a solo dining spot near Gyodae Station.

## Kiosk ordering and gimbap with dakgangjeong sets

Orders are placed through a kiosk, too, so when you visit alone, you can order comfortably without having to discuss this and that with a staff member.

The main offerings at Halls Gimbap Main Branch are broadly gimbap and dakgangjeong. What makes this place distinctive is that it sells them together as a set!! It was a combination I had truly never seen before, but it goes surprisingly well~~

## Tuna green-onion gimbap and dakgangjeong set

- Tuna green-onion gimbap + dakgangjeong set — ₩12,000
- Drink — ₩2,000

I thought gimbap alone might be a little lacking, so I ordered the set that comes with dakgangjeong. There were lots of gimbap varieties, but that day I chose the Jindo green-onion tuna gimbap because the name itself caught my eye.

The dakgangjeong comes topped with Cheongyang peppers. I also liked being able to eat the gimbap and sweetly seasoned chicken together, then have a bit of Cheongyang pepper in between.

### Tuna gimbap with more filling than rice

I especially like tuna gimbap, so I was curious how much tuna it would contain. Once I cut into it, though, it was more generously filled than I expected. There is quite little rice. At a glance, you could almost mistake it for diet gimbap because the filling takes up more of it than the rice.

Inside are Jindo green onions, cabbage, tuna mayo, and danmuji (pickled yellow radish). Since it contains Jindo green onions, I wondered if their aroma and flavor might be too strong, but it was not as intense as I expected. Instead, the subtle fragrance characteristic of green onions went beautifully with the savory, creamy tuna mayo. The crisp texture of the cabbage and the clean taste of the danmuji rounded things out, and none of the ingredients overwhelmed the others.

### Pairing sweet dakgangjeong with Cheongyang peppers

Next was the dakgangjeong. First of all, the chicken was really tender. The coating did not make it overly hard or chewy; the meat inside was soft to bite into, and there was no unpleasant chicken smell either. They say they use a special sauce, and perhaps because of that, the sweet, savory sauce went well with the chicken. Eating the dakgangjeong alongside the gimbap definitely made it feel like a fuller meal.

And I cannot leave out the Cheongyang peppers on top of the dakgangjeong. Since the chicken itself is a sauced dish, it could start to feel a little rich if you keep eating it, but having Cheongyang pepper now and then really cleared the palate. The sweet dakgangjeong and Cheongyang peppers suited each other better than I expected. A bite of gimbap, then a piece of dakgangjeong, followed by some pepper—it was a combination that kept me reaching for more.

## A place I would revisit for a solo meal near Gyodae Station

I stopped by Halls Gimbap Main Branch for the first time in a while while looking for somewhere to eat alone near Gyodae Station. I remembered enjoying this spot when it was a different gimbap shop, so I was also a little glad to hear that it had made a fresh start as Halls Gimbap Main Branch. They say it carries on the previous shop's taste and care, so those who visited before may want to return for another try. I highly recommend Halls Gimbap Main Branch to anyone looking for a good place to dine alone near Gyodae Station.
