## In short

Ihwajeong Charcoal-Grilled Pork Galbi is a second-floor charcoal-grilled marinated pork galbi restaurant on Manse-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. Visiting with a child, the writer grilled three servings of Ihwajeong pork galbi over charcoal, ate it in lettuce wraps with the restaurant's special ssamjang, and finished with bibim naengmyeon and two self-serve cups of pear slush. Both the marinade and the ssamjang were so good that even the child cleaned the plate, making Ihwajeong an easy family dinner out.

I went to Ihwajeong Charcoal-Grilled Pork Galbi in Pyeongtaek for a family meal. Since we brought our kid along, I was a little worried the meat might be too tough or the seasoning too intense.

But to cut to the chase — they really know how to season pork galbi here. The seasoning was sweet and soaked all the way through, the meat was tender, and grilling it over charcoal added a smoky flavor on top. I loved it, but honestly I was even happier that my kid ate so well, haha.

And it wasn't just the meat that was good. From the bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) to the pear slush at the end, the whole finish was great! If you're looking for pork galbi in Pyeongtaek, I'll introduce this spot — it worked really well as a family dinner place.

Ihwajeong Charcoal-Grilled Pork Galbi is on the 2nd floor at 1662 Manse-ro, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do. There's a spacious parking area in front of the building, so it was easy to visit by car.

The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, but there's an elevator, so getting up there with a kid was easy too.

## Inside Ihwajeong: cleaner than you expect from a Korean BBQ restaurant

We went up to the 2nd floor and walked in, and my first impression was pretty good.

![Bright, clean interior of Ihwajeong Charcoal-Grilled Pork Galbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-03-tu8y3-966.webp)

You usually picture charcoal BBQ places as a bit dim and greasy, right? But this place was bright and clean overall.

![Dining room with generous spacing between tables](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-04-1hidp-966.webp)

There was plenty of space between tables, and quite a lot of seating, so it looked good not just for family meals but for larger groups too. Every table had its own ventilation system and everything was well organized, so my first thought was, "Wow, this is really clean for a BBQ place."

![Seating with ventilation installed at every table](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-05-8vthx-966.webp)

## What we ordered: three servings of Ihwajeong pork galbi

![Table setting for 3 servings of Ihwajeong pork galbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-06-119m0-966.webp)

We ordered 3 servings of Ihwajeong pork galbi that day. The pork galbi here uses pear for natural sweetness, and apparently goes through a double cross-aging process over 144 hours.

![Raw pork galbi aged in a pear-based marinade](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-07-w8fm9-966.webp)

As soon as the meat came out, you could see the seasoning wasn't just sitting on the surface — it looked like it had soaked in moist and deep.

![Pork galbi with the seasoning soaked in moist and deep](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-08-cm071-966.webp)

And best of all — the charcoal!

![Red-hot charcoal in the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-09-17i1a-966.webp)

Red-hot charcoal came out, and that's when my expectations shot up, lol. They grilled the pork galbi on the charcoal until golden brown. Since it's seasoned meat, they flipped it carefully front and back so it wouldn't burn, and it started glistening with a beautiful sheen.

## How the charcoal-grilled pork galbi tastes: sweet and tender

I tried a well-cooked piece, and... oh, this is good!

![A piece of pork galbi grilled golden brown over charcoal](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-10-1cnnc-966.webp)

It was exactly the flavor I love in pork galbi. The seasoning soaked in all the way through, so it was sweet without being tough — the texture was really tender.

![Glossy charcoal-grilled seasoned pork galbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-11-gnuuu-966.webp)

On top of that, grilling it directly over charcoal added a smoky note to the sweet seasoning, and I just kept reaching for more.

My kid really ate a lot of meat that day, too. Some days when we go to a BBQ restaurant with a kid, they barely eat a few pieces, but this time they ate so well that I felt weirdly proud, haha.

I think this would be a good option for anyone looking for a place to eat pork galbi in Pyeongtaek with kids.

## The special ssamjang at Ihwajeong is the real surprise

There's one more thing I have to mention — the ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste)! (Unfortunately I don't have a photo of the ssamjang itself... so here's the seasoned crab instead. This was also packed with flavor and delicious.)

![Seasoned crab served as a basic side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-14-1414w-966.webp)

![Basic banchan served alongside the pork galbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-15-hgp1e-966.webp)

I put a well-grilled piece of pork galbi on a lettuce leaf, added a bit of ssamjang, and wrapped it up... this combo was so good. When the sweet seasoning of the meat meets the savory depth of the ssamjang, the flavor really comes alive.

![Pork galbi and ssamjang wrapped in lettuce](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-16-hmha7-966.webp)
*Oops, this photo was taken from the side, but here it is anyway, haha*

> They really know how to make a good dipping sauce here.

That's what I was thinking in that moment. The basic banchan (side dishes) were also a good pairing for the meat, so I never got tired of eating meat alone. And whenever we ran low, we could just grab more from the self-serve corner — very convenient.

## Bibim naengmyeon after the galbi: the spicy cold noodle finish

It just feels wrong to stop after eating your fill of pork galbi, right, haha.

![Bibim naengmyeon ordered to finish the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-17-r62uu-966.webp)

So we ordered bibim naengmyeon to finish. Seeing the noodles in red seasoning topped with cucumber and egg, my chopsticks went right for it even though I was already full. I took a bite... and yeah, they season this well too.

![Bibim naengmyeon topped with cucumber and egg](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-18-45ja4-966.webp)

The spicy-sweet seasoning went so well with the noodles, it felt like it completely reset my palate after all that meat!

![Spicy-sweet seasoned bibim naengmyeon noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-19-g9n3j-m-966.webp)

I think saving a piece of meat to eat together with the bibim naengmyeon would also work really well. I was definitely full, but ended up devouring it anyway, lol.

## Self-serve pear slush: two cups to end the meal

But that wasn't the end.

![Self-served pear slush after the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-20-1lech-966.webp)

One thing that stuck with me from this place was the pear slush.

![A cool cup of pear slush](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-21-1pq1x-966.webp)

You can grab it yourself after your meal, and it's cool and sweet with a pear flavor — perfect as a palate cleanser after charcoal-grilled meat. I meant to have just one cup... but it was so good I ended up going back for another, lol.

![A second cup of pear slush](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang/pyeongtaek-ihwajeong-charcoal-pork-ribs-ssamjang-22-w84ke-966.webp)

From meat to bibim naengmyeon, and finishing with a cool cup of pear slush — it really felt like a proper ending to the meal. It was great to share with my kid too, and I think I'll definitely make sure to get this again next time, haha.

## Final verdict on Ihwajeong: masters of sauce and marinade

If you're looking for a BBQ restaurant to visit with family in Pyeongtaek, I'd recommend Ihwajeong Charcoal-Grilled Pork Galbi. Above all, the pork galbi was sweet and tender and delicious, and what satisfied me most was how well my kid ate.

Add a lettuce wrap with the special ssamjang, finish with bibim naengmyeon and a cup of pear slush, and the course is complete, haha. Everything from the meat itself to the sauces and the finishing dishes was delicious, so if you're looking for a family dinner spot for pork galbi in Pyeongtaek, this one's worth checking out :)
