## In short

Obongjip Samseong Branch is a Korean restaurant near Samseong Station and Samseong Jungang Station in Gangnam, Seoul, serving fire-grilled octopus stir-fry together with bossam (boiled pork with wraps). On an early Saturday lunch with a child, the table was the Nakji Obong Special at 62,000 won (fire-grilled octopus stir-fry for two, small bossam and jaengban makguksu, a chilled buckwheat noodle platter) plus rice balls for 3,000 won, ordered less spicy than standard. With free refills of rice and banchan and plenty of non-spicy side dishes, Obongjip Samseong Branch works well for a family meal.

It had been a while since I visited Samseong-dong — the vibe was great, and after some deliberation over where to have a good lunch, I chose Obongjip Samseong Branch.

The exterior already gives off strong Korean-restaurant vibes haha

## Inside Obongjip Samseong Branch: group tables and a room for 15

It also looked like a good spot for group gatherings or company dinners.

## What we ordered: Nakji Obong Special 62,000 won plus rice balls 3,000 won

What we ordered was Obongjip's signature menu:

- ✨ Nakji Obong Special ₩62,000 (fire-grilled octopus stir-fry for two + small bossam + jaengban makguksu)
- Rice ball ₩3,000 (added to share with my child)

> ✔️Ordered / Nakji Obong Special ₩62,000 / Rice ball ₩3,000

We visited during an early Saturday lunch, and since rice and banchan (side dishes) are refillable, it was even more satisfying.

## The banchan spread at Obongjip: which sides are safe for kids?

After ordering, a round tray arrived neatly set with seaweed soup and basic side dishes.

![Round tray with seaweed soup and basic banchan](https://img.superchart.com/images/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family-06-wx3im-900.webp)

Alongside the seaweed soup, the sides included stir-fried sausage, white kimchi, seasoned radish, garlic, chili peppers, ssamjang (dipping sauce), and roasted seaweed flakes.

Visiting with my child, I noticed there were plenty of non-spicy sides too, which made me think it'd be a good spot for family meals.

## Fire-grilled octopus stir-fry with an adjustable spice level

The main dish~~~⭐️

The octopus stir-fry looked mouthwatering from the very first glance.🤤

![Close-up of the spicy sauce on the fire-grilled octopus stir-fry](https://img.superchart.com/images/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family-08-135o6-900.webp)

The charm of Obongjip's octopus stir-fry is the sauce with that fire-grilled smoky flavor🔥 and the springy, chewy texture of the octopus.

The plump, fresh octopus had a chewy bite, and the sauce, spicy yet savory, blended together really well~

![A single piece of springy octopus](https://img.superchart.com/images/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family-09-1hpna-900.webp)

My husband doesn't handle spicy food well, so we asked for it milder than the default. Even so, in my opinion the default level would already be tasty enough, and those who love spicy food could go even spicier haha. It was nice being able to adjust the spice level to personal taste~~

### Mixing the octopus into rice with sesame oil and seaweed flakes

The octopus stir-fry is delicious on its own, but once you've eaten some, you have to add the sesame oil and roasted seaweed flakes on the table and mix it up into a bibimbap (mixed rice), right? You've got to try the bibimbap hahaha.

![Octopus bibimbap mixed with sesame oil and roasted seaweed flakes](https://img.superchart.com/images/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family-12-1vesc-900.webp)

![A spoonful of octopus bibimbap topped with seaweed flakes](https://img.superchart.com/images/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family-13-ev1iv-900.webp)

With the nutty aroma added in, the savory flavor came through even more against the spicy octopus sauce. Topping it with kimchi and pairing it with warm seaweed soup made for an even heartier meal.

## Small bossam at Obongjip: enough pork for two?

The bossam (boiled pork wraps) was really satisfying too.

![A plate of the small-size bossam](https://img.superchart.com/images/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family-14-1vjt6-900.webp)

Even at the small size, the portion was quite generous, and the meat was soft and moist with a clean flavor, no gamey smell at all.

Wrapping the tender bossam meat with cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi added a crunchy texture — the perfect meat-and-kimchi combo ㅠ🤤

## Jaengban makguksu, the cold noodle platter in the set

And lastly, the jaengban makguksu (buckwheat noodles on a tray)!

![Jaengban makguksu included in the set](https://img.superchart.com/images/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family/ohbongjip-samseong-nakji-obong-special-family-18-hpjli-900.webp)

The sweet-and-tangy sauce, chewy noodles, and crunchy vegetables all worked well together!

Jaengban makguksu is such a great side dish to pair with the heavier flavors of the octopus stir-fry and bossam~

We ordered the rice ball for our child, and it went down well alongside the banchan and bossam meat.
