## In short

Chibao is a Chinese restaurant on the second-floor dining level of Starfield Anseong in Gyeonggi, right next to the kids' zone. A family shopping for Chuseok gifts ordered the solo value set (tantanmen plus mini tangsuyuk, or sweet and sour pork) and the beef jjamppong, and found the tantanmen to be the original style with a strong peanut sauce hit and the jjamppong deeply smoky. If you want tangsuyuk without ordering a full platter, Chibao's solo set is the answer.

Before Chuseok, I went to Starfield Anseong to buy holiday gifts for my nieces and nephews, and while shopping I got a craving for jjamppong, so here's my lunch review of Chibao, a Chinese restaurant at Starfield Anseong.

## Where is Chibao in Starfield Anseong, and where do you park?

Chibao is located on the 2nd floor food court of Starfield Anseong. Starfield has a great nursing room, plus baby chairs and a kids' zone, making it a paradise for parents.

Starfield has plenty of parking overall — I parked on B2 when I had errands at Traders, and in the annex or ground level when I didn't.

## What comes in Chibao's solo value set with mini tangsuyuk

What I loved about Chibao was having a solo value set on the menu. You always want tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), but ordering it separately for ₩20,000–30,000 just for me and my wife, or the three of us with our first kid, feels like a lot. The solo value set came with mini tangsuyuk included, and you could even choose between original or chili style!

We ordered the tantanmen solo value set and the best-menu recommendation beef jjamppong, so each of us had one noodle dish plus mini tangsuyuk — a solid, budget-friendly lunch!

## Why Chibao works with kids: a table right by the kids' zone

Chibao sits right next to the kids' zone on the 2nd floor food court of Starfield Anseong, so while we waited for our order or after eating, our kid could play or let off some steam nearby.

Our tantanmen solo value set and beef jjamppong arrived! The visuals were something else — the pale tantanmen broth had a big pour of chili oil on top, and the jjamppong looked deep red and full of that smoky flavor. The mini tangsuyuk portion looked decent too.

## Chibao's tantanmen: original-style noodles tossed in peanut sauce

Tantanmen, with a pale peanut cream base and red chili oil as the highlight. It looked a bit different from the tantanmen I usually eat. Curious, I searched Naver and found out that the original style, traditional to China's Sichuan region, is a mixed noodle dish with almost no broth, tossed in chili oil, minced meat, and peanut sauce, while the Korean-style variation evolved into a milder version with a thin, rich broth to suit Korean tastes.

The tantanmen I'd eaten before with a thin broth was the Korean-adapted style, and Chibao's tantanmen was the original style! With almost no broth, kind of like a cream-jjamppong style, tossed in chili oil, minced meat, and peanut sauce — a mixed noodle style. The first bite hit me with a peanut flavor I wasn't expecting and caught me off guard, but the more I ate, the more it grew on me. The crunchy Chinese-style pickles mixed in were a nice touch too.

## Beef jjamppong at Chibao: enough noodles to skip the side of rice

The beef jjamppong was loaded with meat, mushrooms, and vegetables, and it was very rich with a strong smoky flavor — delicious. Usually I finish a bowl and still need to mix in a bowl of rice, or steal whatever my wife leaves behind, to feel full. But Chibao's jjamppong had so many noodles that after finishing the bowl, I couldn't even manage the rice.

![Mini tangsuyuk served half-sauced, glutinous rice style](https://img.superchart.com/images/chibao-starfield-anseong-tantanmen-set/chibao-starfield-anseong-tantanmen-set-14-y4f3x-900.webp)

## Mini tangsuyuk: chewy glutinous batter, half of it dipped in sauce

The tangsuyuk came half-sauced! Sauce lightly drizzled on top, with the bottom just barely soaked. Made in the glutinous rice style, it was chewy and thick without being tough — really good. Personally, I don't care whether it's sauce-on-top or dip-it-yourself style!

Since I figured both the tantanmen and jjamppong would be spicy today, I ordered the original tangsuyuk, but next time I definitely need to try the chili version too!

(And... this is really just a personal preference, but I like eating danmuji, pickled radish, with Chinese food, and sometimes it comes out kind of soft and mushy. Here the danmuji was thin and crunchy, which I loved ^^)

## Is Chibao at Starfield Anseong worth it? Final verdict

Chibao, my lunch pick at Starfield Anseong, let me enjoy tangsuyuk even with the solo value set, and the jjamppong was rich with smoky flavor and a generous portion. If you're curious about the taste of real, original-style tantanmen with that peanut sauce kick, go check out Chibao, the Chinese restaurant at Starfield Anseong ~^^
