I genuinely go to Gyeongju all the time.

In my twenties, a close friend was at Dongguk University's Gyeongju campus, so I'd go down once or twice a year, and I've kept traveling there with friends ever since.

From back before anyone even said "Hwangnidang-gil" to how bustling Gyeongju is now... it's like a whole panorama flashing through my head haha.

But here's the thing — surprisingly few cafés on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju stay open late! And the ones with great views and good food especially tend to close early.

Which makes Cafe Bonghwangdang on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju even more precious! It has a gorgeous tomb view AND stays open until 10pm... bookmark this right now haha.

### Is Cafe Bonghwangdang worth a visit?

If you're in Gyeongju, of course you have to hit at least one tomb-view café, right? Cafe Bonghwangdang on Hwangnidang-gil is a Daereungwon-view café where the tombs spread out through the floor-to-ceiling windows — it's just so good, ugh. The best.

Lots of tasty desserts, a detailed and thoughtful interior — perfect for quietly healing while gazing at Gyeongju's tombs. And on top of that, it opens early and stays open late, which is genuinely great.

## Cafe Bonghwangdang hours and how to find it

Open weekdays 8:30am-10:00pm, weekends 8:30am-10:00pm, closed Tuesdays. Cafe Bonghwangdang sits right at the entrance of Hwangnidang-gil, and Daereungwon Tomb Complex is right in front of it, so the view is a total win.

The café is wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows, so no matter where you sit, you're looking down at the lush, pretty Daereungwon Tomb Complex — a tomb-view café I highly recommend.

Cafe Bonghwangdang is a standalone building using both the 1st and 2nd floors, so it's big with plenty of room. Almost no café on Hwangnidang-gil stays open late, but Cafe Bonghwangdang runs until 10pm — ugh, the best.

We had breakfast at the hotel and headed over early in the morning! Ahh... the view was insane.

## First-floor seating and tomb views at Cafe Bonghwangdang

The 1st floor has the counter plus sofa seats, 2-person tables, and group seating. It's surrounded by big floor-to-ceiling windows so the sunlight pours in — so bright, clean, and pretty.

## What is the second floor of Cafe Bonghwangdang like?

The 2nd floor view is insane too! Cafe Bonghwangdang's biggest strength on Hwangnidang-gil is that the view is amazing everywhere, so you're satisfied no matter where you sit!

A lot of cafés only nail their one signature seat and the rest is meh, but at Cafe Bonghwangdang every seat is pretty and they clearly put effort into every corner's interior — no neglected spaces.

Another huge strength of Cafe Bonghwangdang on Hwangnidang-gil is the variety of menu items and desserts. Coffee, ades, wine, beer, tea, even brunch — the menu is genuinely diverse, plus tons of cakes, cookies, and other desserts to choose from.

And on top of that, the sumakse cookies and yeonhwagwa sets make the best Gyeongju travel gifts. Especially the cookies shaped like Gyeongju's sumakse (roof-end tiles) — they're cute and full of Gyeongju vibes, honestly better than the classic Gyeongju bread? So I picked the sumakse cookies as a gift for my friend!!!! I really went back and forth with the Gyeongju bread, but rather than the obvious choice, the sumakse cookies won haha.

The packaging is upscale and pretty, very satisfying. If you're a designer, you'll know exactly how expensive that silver foil wrap looks haha.

Both the coffee and ade were so pretty, and thanks to the beautiful tombs through the window, I was happy the entire time I drank my coffee haha.

The sumakse cookie set I packaged up as a gift for my friend. I did buy Gyeongju bread too, and went back and forth between the two, but since my standard for gifts is that they have to look pretty, I settled on Cafe Bonghwangdang's sumakse cookies.

## When is Cafe Bonghwangdang quietest?

Every single seat is so pretty that we went early to catch the window with no crowds and took a ton of photos everywhere with my friend. By lunchtime it gets crowded! Go early if you want lots of pretty photos.

Once you step out, you're right by Daereungwon, so it's great for taking photos and hanging out in front of the tombs too.

So cute, these sumakse cookies. Each shape is really well made, and the sumakse face comes through clearly!! Great quality haha.

If you're traveling to Gyeongju and hunting for tomb-view or Daereungwon-view cafés, Cafe Bonghwangdang comes highly recommended! Since it's open late, go at night too — when we went at night, they'd even set up outdoor seating out front?! Super romantic too.
