It's been a while, but I finally got my hair done again haha! This time I visited Momentium, a hair salon in Manchon-dong, Daegu. It's close to Manchon Station so it's really accessible, and if you're looking for a salon in Suseong-gu, Daegu, you've probably heard of this place before!

Maybe because they also specialize in scalp and hair loss care, they pay extra attention to hair care during perm or straightening treatments too haha

## A shampoo while lying back in a massage chair

This massage chair,,, 🫧 Even the shampoo at Momentium felt great! I got shampooed while lying fully back in a massage chair, and it was way more comfortable than I expected. Above all, the shampoo itself was really refreshing, so I was satisfied right from the start.

And one more thing I personally loved! Even when you book with the director, a lot of salons still have staff do the shampoo — but here, the director did the shampoo herself, from start to finish. Her touch really was different somehow haha. She massaged my scalp so refreshingly that just getting shampooed felt like therapy.

I also liked that the shampoo and treatment products weren't just fixed products — she used ones suited to my current hair condition. After the shampoo and treatment, my hair genuinely felt so soft. Completely silky like wet seaweed~ 😂 I could tell she was paying attention to my hair condition even from the shampoo stage before treatment.

## Hair condition before treatment — thin hair with heavy curl

My hair is usually thin and easily flattened, plus quite curly, so whenever I straightened it, it would go completely flat with no volume ㅠ

💇‍♀️ They checked my hair condition thoroughly first. My hair tends to be a bit tricky. Since I often use a Dyson or a curling iron, it's overall thin and lightweight, so it flies around easily — but my curl is also pretty severe. The problem was, if I straightened it, the curl was gone but my volume died completely.

I wanted to straighten the curl but not have my hair go limp, and if I tried to keep volume, the curl bothered me… people with hair like mine probably know this feeling 😂 But what I loved about the consultation was that the director has curly hair herself, so she really understood this struggle!

## The straightening + root perm process

### A nutrient spray to protect the hair

After the shampoo, instead of going straight into treatment on wet hair, she first applied a nutrient spray to the healthy hair, excluding the roots. This is apparently to prevent unnecessary damage to the existing hair while doing the root straightening. Having this protective step before treatment made me feel a bit more at ease.

### Careful attention to the sideburns and nape line

There was one part I was especially concerned about because of my curly hair — the sideburns and the nape line! Even if the rest of the hair is straightened, if these areas aren't properly styled, it doesn't look clean, so I always pay attention to this whenever I go to a salon. I mentioned the parts I was worried about first, and the director checked them too, giving careful attention to the sideburns and nape line. Talking through these details before the treatment put my mind much more at ease.

### Root volume that doesn't collapse, kept natural

For the root perm too, she carefully checked the points I wanted. I especially didn't want the roots bent so much that they looked artificially puffed up — she held them firmly so they wouldn't collapse while curling them into a rounded shape. Thanks to that, the roots got natural volume without looking overly puffed!

The key was keeping the curl neatly tamed while giving the roots just the right amount of lift and volume, and I could see the process heading exactly toward the style I wanted, which was exciting.

No more frizzy curls!! And the volume is nice and fluffy~

🤍 Treatment done! And the result is… I'm super satisfied. Throughout the treatment she kept applying hair nutrients and checking my hair condition. Another thing that surprised me was the neutralizing step! Usually with straightening, neutralizing means a long wait, but here I got to do it lying comfortably in the massage chair. What stood out most was that it never felt like I was just sitting there for a long stretch of time doing nothing. Lying in the massage chair was so comfortable… I stayed lying down from shampoo to neutralizing, so I basically felt like I'd come in for a spa day lol 🫠

## Why I'd recommend a one-person salon for severe curl

If you have severe curl or unruly curl like mine and get straightening done often, I think it's worth considering a one-person salon. Of course, multi-staff salons have the advantage of multiple stylists working together or splitting the treatment, so they can take more clients and cut down treatment time.

But for a treatment like straightening, where you constantly need someone carefully watching hair condition, product application, pulling direction, and heat work, I personally feel much more at ease when one person handles it from start to finish. Especially with severe curl, since the degree of curl and damage differs strand by strand, results can end up looking uneven from one side to the other — but here, since it's a one-person salon, the director personally checks everything from start to finish, and I really felt the advantage of that.

She kept confirming the style I wanted and checking my hair condition along the way, so I really felt like 'oh, she's genuinely watching my hair the whole time'…🤍

## I think I'll be booking Momentium again

✨ And the director's own style is trendy through and through. I personally love the sophisticated, natural vibe of Cha Jung-won, and the director's whole vibe gave off exactly that feeling, which made me trust her even more haha. I've heard great reviews of her layered cuts and layered perms too, so I want to try a different style next time.

This time, the goal was to tame the curl cleanly while bringing back the volume that usually goes flat! The result came out exactly the way I wanted, and I'm so happy about it. 🫶🏻 Honestly, after this visit I think I'm settling in here for good…! I'll probably book my next hair appointment at Momentium too 🤍
