## In short

Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is a buckwheat noodle restaurant on Hoguk-ro in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi, an easy drive from the Wondang area. For a weekend lunch with parents, the table of three ordered perilla buckwheat kalguksu in a large portion for ₩12,000, bibim makguksu in a large portion for ₩12,000, and a large suyuk (boiled pork) platter for ₩23,000. Parking is roomy and the large noodle portion costs only ₩1,000 more, so Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is an easy family outing, though the large suyuk felt a little small for three.

I was thinking about where to take my parents for weekend lunch and ended up at Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu (봉평고향막국수) over in the Wondang area. Makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) is usually a summer craving, but the weather was decent that day and it's a dish my parents love, so we figured it was time for a buckwheat meal again.

## Where is Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu, and is there parking?

Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is at 1128 Hoguk-ro, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do — an easy drive from the Wondang side. What I liked most that day, though, was the parking.

When you're going out to eat with your parents, easy parking matters almost as much as the food. Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu has a large lot, so showing up by car wasn't stressful at all, and it made for a comfortable weekend outing.

The restaurant was bigger than I expected once we arrived. It wasn't hard to spot from the main road, and having such a wide parking area made just getting out of the car easy.

## What the dining room is like for a meal with parents

Since it was the weekend, Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu had plenty of families in for a meal, and it felt like a natural place to bring my parents too.

Turns out it's a genuinely recognized spot — selected as a Goyang tourism restaurant! You might picture a somewhat modest setup when you hear "makguksu restaurant," but overall it was comfortable to sit and eat in, and a nice place to have a slow lunch chatting with my parents.

## Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu menu prices and the ₩1,000 large portion

On the menu, mul-makguksu (cold noodles in broth) and bibim-makguksu (cold noodles in spicy sauce) are ₩11,000 each, and the perilla buckwheat kalguksu (noodle soup) is also ₩11,000. A large portion adds ₩1,000, worth knowing if you're a big eater — I'd recommend the upgrade.

After ordering, we got a cup of myeonsu (buckwheat noodle-boiling water) to sip. Sticky but warm — I loved it!

## What three of us ordered: kalguksu, bibim makguksu and suyuk

We ordered three things that day: perilla buckwheat kalguksu (large) ₩12,000, bibim makguksu (large) ₩12,000, and suyuk (large) ₩23,000. With three of us eating, we went large on both the makguksu and the kalguksu to make sure there'd be enough.

These are the standard banchan (side dishes) that come with the meal. If you run out, you can help yourself at the self-serve bar.

Ordering noodles also gets you a small taster of barley rice, mixed with chojang (vinegared chili sauce) and sesame oil — a nice little starter to the meal.

### Perilla buckwheat kalguksu, large portion ₩12,000

First up, the perilla buckwheat kalguksu had a warm broth with a really nice nutty perilla flavor. Ordering the large size definitely meant a generous amount of noodles.

It was great to share with my buckwheat-loving parents, and having a warm kalguksu alongside the cold makguksu made for a much better table spread than ordering only cold dishes.

There was even potato in it, and I really liked that texture!! With the nutty, gentle taste of the perilla, this seemed like a great option for people who prefer mild food over spicy dishes.

### Bibim makguksu, large portion ₩12,000

Bibim makguksu is the dish you shouldn't skip if you're at a buckwheat restaurant. Ordering it large meant a solid amount of noodles, and the sauce was well mixed in, so it was easy to eat bite after bite.

You could really taste the distinctive chewy texture of the buckwheat noodles, and with the sauce, it made for a clean, satisfying bowl.

Personally, I sometimes feel a little unsatisfied with makguksu if the portion is too small, but ordering large that day took care of that. And then there was the suyuk we ordered alongside it.

### Large suyuk platter, ₩23,000: is it enough for three?

The suyuk (boiled pork slices) was nice and moist.

![Moist slices of suyuk pork](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-kalguksu-suyuk-family-lunch/wondang-kalguksu-suyuk-family-lunch-21-edocv-966.webp)

It wasn't dry at all, with a soft, tender bite that paired well with the makguksu — especially good alongside the bibim makguksu. That said, we ordered the large size and, split three ways along with the noodles, the portion felt a bit lacking.

Still, the meat itself was moist and tender, so it was delicious overall. Between the kalguksu, the makguksu, and the suyuk, I felt like we'd made a solid menu choice for a meal with my parents.

## Why Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu suits a family lunch, and what to order together

This time we visited Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu for weekend lunch with my parents, and overall it was a relaxed, easy meal. The big parking lot was a real plus for bringing my parents by car, and the spacious dining room made it a stress-free choice for a weekend family meal.

If you're splitting several dishes like we did, pairing one makguksu with the warm perilla buckwheat kalguksu and adding suyuk on the side seems like a good combo. And since the noodle dishes only cost ₩1,000 more for the large size, going large if you want a bigger portion is worth it.

We ordered both the bibim makguksu and the perilla buckwheat kalguksu in large size, and it was plenty to share among three of us. If you're looking for somewhere to drive to with your parents on a weekend around Wondang, a buckwheat restaurant like this is a solid pick. Hours are 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM, by the way.

Personally, I found it more memorable to order suyuk alongside the makguksu to share among several people, rather than just having makguksu alone like this time. A weekend lunch with my parents in Wondang, filled up on buckwheat food again after a while — it was a good one.
