## In short

Naegohyang Jeju is a Jeju-style Korean set-meal (hanjeongsik) restaurant on basement level 1 at 93 Donggwang-ro in Seocho-gu, Seoul, near Naebang Station in Bangbae-dong. Two diners ordered the Hallasan set at 48,000 won per person and received 5 kinds of seasonal sashimi, 3 kinds of seafood, grilled Jeju silver hairtail, mackerel braised with radish, abalone pot rice and a seodeori fish-bone soup holding 4 whole abalones. The spread at Naegohyang Jeju is tidy and generous, which makes it a good fit for a Bangbae-dong family dinner or gathering with older relatives.

Herbs grown in Jeju, fish dishes from Jeju waters. A Seocho restaurant that carries the cool sea and a haenyeo mother's heart in every dish.

> A Seocho Korean restaurant worth the trip: "Naegohyang Jeju"

Hi, this is Yeon. It's the season when the sky is high and horses grow fat, so I've been happily eating my way through it haha. After a stretch of nothing but meat, this time I visited a Bangbae-dong Korean restaurant that brought the taste of Jeju all the way to the mainland.

A clean interior styled around Jeju's stone-wall concept. I snapped this on the way out after the meal — really tidy, right? They've even got a coat rack ready.

## Naegohyang Jeju menu and set prices

The special set menus at this Seocho Korean restaurant are the Songaksan set at ₩32,000, the Sanbangsan set at ₩37,000, and the Hallasan set at ₩48,000.

Don't miss the weekday lunch sets for better value haha (the Songaksan and Sanbangsan sets are cheaper then).

The signature set menus

There are also single dishes, side dishes, and a grilled & braised menu.

## What comes with the Hallasan set for two

We ordered the Hallasan set, ₩48,000 per person, for two people. It came with salad, 5 kinds of seasonal sashimi, 3 kinds of seafood, fried food, grilled Jeju silver hairtail, braised mackerel with radish, restorative abalone hot pot rice, mackerel-bone soup, and 6 side dishes. Seriously generous.

### First course: salad

A nutty salad bursting with fragrance from water dropwort.

Crisp and nutty — perfect for waking up the appetite.

### 5 kinds of seasonal sashimi and 3 kinds of seafood

![5 kinds of seasonal sashimi and 3 kinds of seafood plated](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang-13-1jeqx-900.webp)

The first thing to arrive: a neatly plated spread of seafood and sashimi. Sea squirt, abalone, hairtail, salmon, tuna, conch, and more — all kinds of seafood, piled high.

![A chewy piece of conch](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang-14-gdc70-900.webp)

The conch had a chewy, springy texture with no fishiness and no toughness.

![Abalone, sea squirt, and hairtail sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang-15-1yd4u-900.webp)

A moment to enjoy abalone and sea squirt together too. The silvery, freshly shimmering hairtail sashimi was so soft it melted in the mouth right away. Clean, with no fishy taste at all.

### The fried course

I was charmed by the pale golden, pretty color of the fried food. Sweet potato and nutty hairtail fritters — crispy and full of flavor.

### Grilled Jeju silver hairtail

Ta-da ✨✨ the big grilled Jeju silver hairtail makes its entrance. Just looking at it made my mouth water — such a tempting sight. A kind staff member cut it into bite-sized pieces right in front of us, and even lit a small flame underneath so we could eat it warm.

![Golden-grilled Jeju silver hairtail](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang-16-9ubwr-900.webp)

The golden-grilled Jeju silver hairtail was savory and light, with soft, moist flesh underneath. Laid over warm abalone hot pot rice, it's a total rice thief. They also brought a small dish of salt if it needed seasoning, but dipping it in wasabi soy sauce was delicious too.

### Mackerel braised with radish

A tempting, deep-red braised mackerel with radish.

Braised for a long time, the seasoning soaked deep into the radish — another rice thief. You know the radish is sometimes even tastier than the fish, right? The mackerel had that deep ocean flavor too; I ate it all down to the bones.

### Abalone pot rice, the restorative dish

![Abalone hot pot rice with abalone and tot](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang-18-1m4x2-900.webp)

Warm abalone hot pot rice with abalone and tot (sea fern) — a Bangbae-dong restorative rice worth seeking out.

![Freshly cooked, steaming abalone hot pot rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang-19-dshta-900.webp)

Freshly cooked, piping hot hot pot rice — need I say more.

![Hot pot rice mixed with perilla oil and soy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang-20-1ukyn-900.webp)

I recommend mixing it with the soy sauce that comes alongside and a bit of perilla oil, then wrapping it in dried seaweed. It's exactly what you want when you have no appetite.

### Seodeori fish-bone soup with 4 whole abalones

A bubbling soup comes with the set too. Small in size but I was genuinely surprised to find 4 whole abalones inside! A real health boost from all that abalone. The broth is rich yet light, not heavy at all, which made it even better. My mom was very happy — a proud moment.

### The 6 carefully made side dishes

Bean sprouts, eggplant namul, and lightly stir-fried fish cake.

The ssamjang and salted hairtail intestines side dish also had deep, delicious flavor. A Bangbae-dong Korean restaurant with real hand-made skill.

## To finish: plum tea and Jeju dried greens

As the meal wound down, they thoughtfully brought out plum tea — I wanted a second cup haha.

![Plum tea served for dessert](https://img.superchart.com/images/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang/seocho-hanjeongsik-jeju-seodeori-tang-22-10f8r-900.webp)

At the register, along with sweet candy, they sell Jeju dried greens too, so I bought a bag of gondre (thistle greens) haha. Mix up a seasoning sauce and toss it with gondre rice and it's honey-sweet. (1 bag of gondre, ₩10,000)
