## In short

Ttangkkeut Maeul is a table-ready sashimi restaurant at units 42 and 43 on the first floor, right in front of Gate 1 (South) of Noryangjin Fish Market in Dongjak, Seoul. The medium three-fish platter of red seabream, flounder and striped jack mackerel was taken home with wine, and the red seabream came with both belly and back cuts prepared mackawa-style (skin lightly scalded), while the seasoned rice vinegar included in the bag made it fun to press sushi rice at home. It is a good order when you want white fish and blue-backed fish in one platter.

As someone who loves sashimi 👋 I visit Noryangjin Fish Market pretty often. There are so many sashimi restaurants there that it's honestly hard to pick one, but this time I got a three-fish platter to go from Ttangkkeut Maeul (땅끝마을) inside Noryangjin Fish Market and enjoyed it at home with wine 😎

## Takeout queue at Ttangkkeut Maeul even at 2:30 in the afternoon

The store is in units 42 and 43. I ordered for pickup, and even at an odd time like 2:30pm, the place was seriously busy. The staff cutting sashimi were nonstop, and there was even a line of customers waiting to grab their packaged orders.

There was even a dedicated staff member handing out takeout bags the moment customers arrived — the whole operation felt really systematic. Seeing that, I thought, yep, this is definitely one of Noryangjin's sashimi spots worth the hype. It seemed like years of steady customers had shaped a smooth-running system. The tanks were packed with fish, and best of all, they were kept spotlessly clean, which made me trust the sashimi selection even more 👍

## What comes in the medium three-fish platter: red seabream, flounder, striped jack mackerel

I ordered one of Ttangkkeut Maeul's signature menu items, the three-fish platter (삼종회). I got the medium size, made up of red seabream, flounder, and striped jack mackerel. Striped jack mackerel especially isn't a fish you often see in a typical mixed sashimi platter, so I was extra curious. Even at the medium size, the portion was generous — plenty for a home wine pairing.

### Striped jack mackerel: crisp texture and nutty richness

The most memorable was the striped jack mackerel. It had that distinctive slightly crisp, sinewy bite, along with the savory richness typical of blue-backed fish. Striped jack mackerel is known for its fattiness and savory flavor, and even now, past peak season, it still tasted great. Personally, I think a mixed platter needs a blue-backed fish like this to really round out the flavor range 🐟

### Flounder and mackawa-style red seabream at Ttangkkeut Maeul

When I picked up the flounder piece, I was surprised at how big it was — it made me think, 'oh, they're using a bigger-than-usual fish here.' I liked the flounder's characteristic crunchy, springy texture, and the clean, light flavor that came through with each bite.

The red seabream came prepared as both belly and back cuts, and both were done mackawa-style. Mackawa is a technique where the skin of the red seabream is lightly seared to boost texture and flavor — you could really feel the effort to bring out the fish's texture and the savoriness from its fat. The red seabream seemed to have been aged a bit, and the texture was on the softer side.

## Seasoned rice vinegar included: pressing sushi rice at home

Along with soy sauce and chojang (vinegar-chili sauce), they packed in vinegared rice seasoning too — so instead of just eating the sashimi plain, I made my own sushi rice at home and topped it with sashimi, which was a fun extra way to enjoy it. Little touches like this make a single plate of takeout sashimi feel like it can be enjoyed in several different ways.

## Verdict: who should order Ttangkkeut Maeul's three-fish sashimi platter

This time's pick from Ttangkkeut Maeul, one of Noryangjin Fish Market's favorite sashimi spots, was appealing for letting you taste red seabream, flounder, and striped jack mackerel all in one go — the red seabream stood out for its mackawa prep and soft aged texture, the flounder for its sweetness from being a larger fish and its crunchy bite, and the striped jack mackerel for its crisp texture and savory flavor.

Above all, it's right in front of Gate 1 (South) of Noryangjin Fish Market, so it's easy to walk to, and the busy pace of the store along with the spotlessly maintained tanks left a strong impression. If you want to grab sashimi to go in Noryangjin, I'd recommend trying Ttangkkeut Maeul's three-fish platter, which lets you enjoy both popular white fish and blue-backed fish together.
