## In short

Gaya Kkeutjip Samgye is a Korean restaurant serving ray set meals (가오리정식) on Garyo181beon-gil in Samgye-dong, Gimhae. A weekend lunch here brought the ray set for two, arriving with a full table of banchan side dishes including japchae, seasoned raw crab and stir-fried kimchi, plus clay-oven grilled mackerel, seaweed soup and lettuce wraps as standard. Numbers are hung outside for waiting guests, but tables at Gaya Kkeutjip turn over fast, and the spread is generous enough to bring parents back for.

I wanted a solid Korean meal in Samgye-dong, Gimhae, so I stopped by Gaya Kkeutjip. I'd been looking for a good Korean restaurant to take my parents to, and this place is known for its ray stew set, so I gave it a try. The banchan (side dishes) came out in variety and the portions were generous — it seemed like a good spot for a family meal out.

## Parking and the weekend wait at Gaya Kkeutjip

Gaya Kkeutjip has its own designated parking lot. Since I visited on a weekend and figured the lot would be crowded, I parked in a nearby alley instead. It's a good idea to check the parking situation before you go.

There's a spot out front where you hang a number to wait your turn. There were quite a few customers when I visited, but because of how this kind of restaurant works, tables turn over fast, so the wait wasn't long. If it's busy, just grab a number tag out front and wait — haha.

## How big is the dining room at Gaya Kkeutjip?

Once inside, the restaurant was much bigger than I expected. There were plenty of tables and the whole place felt spacious. Tables were also somewhat separated from each other, so you're not bothered much by neighboring diners. It felt like a good spot for a family visit!!

We ordered the ray stew set for two. Not long after ordering, the dishes started coming out one by one, and the pace was pretty quick, which I appreciated haha. I'd shown up hungry, so not having to wait long was satisfying.

## How many banchan side dishes come with the ray set?

One of my favorite things about Gaya Kkeutjip is the banchan!! The table was filled edge to edge, and the variety was really impressive. Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), salad, tofu, stir-fried kimchi, greens, roasted seaweed, seasoned crab, squash, and more all came out together.

What I liked especially was that the banchan weren't overly strong-flavored — most were dishes anyone could eat comfortably. From kids to adults, there wasn't much to dislike, which makes it a good choice for family visits. I was picking at them one by one and honestly felt like I could finish a bowl of rice before the main dish even arrived.

## How much ray do you get, and how spicy is it?

The portion of Gaya Kkeutjip's ray stew was bigger than I expected. The rays used were sizable, with plenty of meat on them, so there was a lot to eat. Rice cakes and radish were mixed in too, which made picking through the dish fun.

The seasoning was moderately spicy with just the right saltiness. It wasn't too sharp or overwhelming, so it went well with rice, and dabbing a little sauce onto the ray meat was really tasty. The rice cakes had soaked up the seasoning well too — chewy and well-cooked, pairing nicely with the ray.

Overall the spread was so generous that I kept picking at different things throughout the meal. We only ordered the ray stew set, but with the banchan, grilled fish, seaweed soup, and lettuce wraps all filling the table, it felt like a proper Korean meal.

Maybe that's why I saw quite a few customers who'd brought their parents along during my visit. It's definitely a menu lineup that works well for dining with older family members, so it should suit anyone looking for a place for a family meal out. I found myself wanting to come back with my own parents next time.

### Seaweed soup comes with the set too

Gaya Kkeutjip's set also comes with seaweed soup (미역국). Having warm broth alongside was nice for taking a spoonful in between bites of the spicy braised ray. The whole spread was so substantial that we didn't need to add anything extra to feel full.

## The clay-oven grilled mackerel included as standard

On top of everything, there are several dipping sauces for the lettuce wraps, and grilled mackerel comes standard too. Honestly, it's great that the ray stew set even includes grilled mackerel — and once I tasted it, I understood why it's included.

Maybe because it's grilled in a clay oven, the fish was really soft and moist. The outside was properly grilled while the inside stayed tender, so anyone who likes grilled fish would be satisfied with this alone. Personally, it was hard to believe this was just a standard side dish.

## Eating the ray in a lettuce wrap: a family meal in Samgye-dong

Lettuce and greens came out too, so I tried wrapping ray meat in them. Piling ray meat and sauce onto the lettuce gave a different feel altogether. Anyone who enjoys eating wraps would be satisfied.

If you're looking for a hearty Korean spread in Gimhae, Gaya Kkeutjip is worth checking out among Gimhae restaurants. If you especially like eating a little bit of a lot of different banchan, this place should score well with you. If you're looking for somewhere to eat with family in Samgye-dong, I'd recommend Gaya Kkeutjip among Gimhae Korean restaurants too. The food comes out fast and the dining room is spacious, making it good for gatherings or family meals out.

![Plum tea and coffee corner near the exit of Gaya Kkeutjip](https://img.superchart.com/images/gimhae-samgye-gaya-kkeutjip-skate-set/gimhae-samgye-gaya-kkeutjip-skate-set-24-z7a5d-900.webp)

Before heading out after the meal, there's a corner where you can have plum tea and coffee. Finishing with a cup of plum tea and grabbing a coffee on the way out felt like a satisfying end to the meal.

Overall, the portions, banchan lineup, and taste at Gaya Kkeutjip were all satisfying! The ray stew set had generous portions and meaty ray, making for a filling meal, and above all, the standard banchan and grilled mackerel were each delicious, which made for a high level of satisfaction.
