After a bottle of wine and an outdoor drinking date in Jongno, we wanted somewhere with atmosphere for one more drink — that's how we ended up at Gak Seoul, a cocktail bar near Cheonggyecheon stream. There were a lot of reviews saying it was quiet with great vibes, and the location was convenient, so we went for it. We didn't stay long, but the whole time we were there, we had a comfortable chat over a delicious whiskey.

## Where Gak Seoul is, opening hours and parking

Gak Seoul is close to Jonggak Station exit 4, right next to Cheonggyecheon stream. It's a great stop whether you drop by while walking along the stream, or head to the stream after a drink.

Gak Seoul is underground, but even the stairway down is neatly designed, and the wood interior with mood lighting gives it a upscale feel.

There's a clean bar counter that looks great for drinking solo. Soft lighting in the dim space makes for good atmosphere, the chairs are extremely comfortable, and there's also a section with plush sofas. The interior is all sharp angles — 'gak' means angle in Korean, which is where the name comes from — but somehow it still feels like a really comfortable space, and it genuinely does feel comfortable once you're in it.

Outside food is allowed, but out of consideration for other guests, only food without a strong smell :) The restroom is on the 2nd floor, and if you have a preference, they'll even make off-menu cocktails to your taste.

The keep charge is ₩10,000 per person, and bottles can be kept for up to 3 months.

The tomato on top is so cute haha. First you take it in with your eyes, then a little bite. The tomato flavor came through really rich, and it was a sweet, delicious cocktail — the basil in the middle was a subtle nice touch.

Glenfiddich 15 Year, the textbook single malt known for great value. At 40% ABV it's strong, but it still gives a really smooth impression. There's a bit of spice, but with a silky texture and the weight of well-ripened apple and oak. It has a lingering finish that stays gentle, and the aftertaste is clean without being heavy :) I want to buy a bottle and drink it at home during the holidays.

We'd already had a bottle of wine in round one, so we each only had one drink here, but Gak Seoul's own signature cocktails were so delicious, and it was quiet with great atmosphere, and the bartender was so kind that I wanted to stay longer. It was a date spot that let us end the night on a happy note.

## Gak Seoul: is it worth a second-round stop in Jongno?

Gak Seoul is a cocktail bar where you can comfortably settle in for a calm drink alone, and it's also a great cocktail and whiskey bar to set the mood on a date with a partner. With its special signature cocktail menu, I'd recommend it as a good stop after a date near Jongno and Cheonggyecheon :)
