## In short

Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa is a Korean restaurant specializing in grilled and braised fish in Seongsa-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. On this visit the order was the braised fish set plus abalone sotbap (abalone rice cooked in a hot pot), laying the sauce-soaked fish over rice and alternating bites between the two. On a day when you want a proper rice meal, ordering both dishes together at Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa makes for a filling one.

There's something about craving braised fish that makes me want to eat a proper meal with rice, too. Instead of some quick simple option, I was looking for a place where I could put a piece of braised fish over warm rice and scrape the bowl clean at the end — that's how I found Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa, a place specializing in seasonal grilled fish.

This time I ordered the braised fish set and abalone sotbap. Both go well with rice, so I ordered them together, and honestly the combo turned out pretty great. The braised fish especially comes alive when eaten with rice, so I found myself scooping generous helpings from the very first bite.

## What comes with the braised fish set in Seongsa-dong

When you look up Seongsa-dong restaurants, you mostly see familiar options like meat or gukbap (soup with rice). This time I wanted something different, so I went with a fish dish at Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa — and in the end, I think I made a good call.

The braised fish set had both the clean taste of the fish itself and a savory, salty seasoning, making it a great side for rice. The seasoning wasn't overly intense — spooned little by little over rice, a whole bowl disappeared before I knew it.

The fish flesh had soaked up the seasoning, so it tasted much better with rice than eaten on its own. Personally, if the seasoning on braised fish is too strong, I can get tired of it after a few bites — but this one kept making me reach for more rice.

## Why the abalone pot rice was worth adding

And then the abalone sotbap I ordered alongside. I actually debated whether to just get the braised fish set alone, but adding the sotbap made the meal much more filling.

The warm rice aroma unique to sotbap hits you first, and with abalone mixed in, the flavor felt richer than plain white rice. The grains were moist but not mushy — just right — and a touch of the braised fish seasoning stirred in gave it yet another dimension. The chewy texture of the abalone showed up here and there too, making it fun to alternate bites with the braised fish.

Best of all, sotbap is the kind of dish where it feels like a waste to leave rice behind at the end. Mixing in a little braised fish seasoning as I went, I ended up eating pretty much every last spoonful.

## The braised fish and pot rice combo as a Hwajeong Station lunch

If you're looking for somewhere to eat around Seongsa-dong, I thought this style of Korean food would work quite well as a Hwajeong Station lunch option too. For lunch you tend to want something with a proper serving of rice rather than something too heavy, and the braised fish set with sotbap combo definitely delivers that satisfied, ate-a-real-meal feeling.

If you especially like rice, ordering the abalone sotbap alongside seems like a good idea. Compared to just the braised fish alone, the added richness of the rice made the whole meal feel more substantial. I usually like picking apart the braised fish flesh and laying it over rice, and that's exactly what I did again this time.

## Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa as a meal stop near IKEA Goyang

If you're looking for a place to eat near IKEA Goyang and don't mind traveling a bit further, Seongsa-dong is worth considering too. Like me, if you've just finished shopping or errands and want a proper, real meal, something like the braised fish set fits the mood really well.

If you're searching for restaurants near IKEA Goyang and want something different from the usual go-tos, the braised fish menu here could catch your eye. After eating spicy or intense food over and over, there are days you crave clean, rice-paired Korean food like this — and this felt like exactly that kind of day. With the abalone sotbap added in, it was filling enough that I didn't feel hungry again even after lunch.

## How the braised fish actually tasted

I think seasoning is really the key to braised fish, and this time the seasoning suited the fish flesh well, pairing nicely with rice. I tried the fish alone first, then put a piece over rice — the second way was clearly better.

The savory depth of the seasoning softened a bit when combined with rice, while the clean flavor of the fish still came through, making each bite enjoyable. The abalone sotbap also worked to balance out the seasoning of the braised fish in between bites. Eating only the braised fish continuously could get one-note, but alternating with the sotbap kept things interesting. So in the end, I was glad I ordered both menus together, more than I initially expected.

## One thing that disappointed at Min Cook Apbadang Seongsa

If I had to point out a drawback, dishes like braised fish and sotbap that you eat slowly alongside rice aren't the type of meal you can rush through quickly. If you're a slow eater like me, that's actually fine, but if you really need to get lunch done fast, it's better to give yourself some extra time before visiting.

Still, the food itself was fun to eat with rice, so it didn't bother me much. If anything, it's the kind of meal that will come to mind again on a day when you crave a proper bowl of rice instead of intense, spicy food.

## Which fish dish to try next time

This time I tried the braised fish set and abalone sotbap, and both paired so well with rice that I left satisfied. If you're looking for a proper rice meal in Seongsa-dong, or craving fish for a Hwajeong Station lunch, this combo is worth considering.

Especially when searching for restaurants near IKEA Goyang and wanting something a bit heartier and less typical, a place like this is a welcome find. Personally, mixing rice into the braised fish seasoning was the part I remember most. I'll probably come back to try other dishes next time. If you're a fan of braised fish in Seongsa-dong, would you enjoy this style too?
