It was because of the iPhone 17 Pro to 18 Pro switch — the day I finally got the new phone I'd wanted! On a somewhat monumental day like this, it feels like a waste to just go straight home. As if she sensed it, my close younger friend suddenly called me out to Gyodong on a Friday night, and we both dashed out with one mind. Naturally, a Friday night calls for a drink or two, and when that's the mood, an izakaya is the way to go — especially since the weather was perfect for outdoor seating, that late-summer, early-fall sweet spot. So we headed to Naiba Hutto in Gyodong! > Gyodong Naiba Hutto / 634 Gukchebosang-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu (81-1 Gongpyeong-dong), South Korea / Daily 18:00–01:30, last order 00:30 / Closed Friday 9/25 (Chuseok) / Groups, Wi-Fi, reservations, easy payment I always mix up "hutto" and "hotto" — turns out it's the Japanese-style pronunciation of "neighborhood," hence "hutto." Apparently the name means it's a space you can visit comfortably, and... Honestly, it really is! We were definitely in Daegu, but it had this oddly Japanese vibe. Felt like something out of Midnight Diner. Though I've never actually been to Japan. The atmosphere alone was so pretty that I was glad I came, just from standing outside the Gyodong izakaya. ## Naiba Hutto's patio seats, reservation rules and parking Since the weather was so nice, all the outdoor (yajang) seats at Naiba Hutto were taken, but you can reserve one in advance through Naver Reservations. Sunday through Thursday, you can book any time during opening hours, but Friday and Saturday reservations are only accepted for the 18:00–18:30 slot. I decided I'd book ahead next time. But honestly, public transit is best when you're drinking(?) And so we plunged into a little Japan tucked inside Gyodong~ ## Inside Naiba Hutto: the U-shaped bar table and the outdoor patio Naiba Hutto is arranged with a C-shaped bar table plus various other seats, and luckily one spot was still open, so we sat on the left side. This is the right side of the bar table, shot on our way out! Every corner had this exotic feel to it. There were also seats with this more sentimental vibe. Thanks to the cozy atmosphere, it felt perfect for dates, friend gatherings, or even company dinners. This is what the Friday night crowd looks like. Then some people left the seat I'd had my eye on, so I snapped a photo. Total sentimental vibes. The first dish to arrive was Naiba Hutto's mentaiko (pollack roe) cream pasta! The color alone looked amazing, and the smell was out of this world. It felt like a Japanese-style mentaiko cream pasta. Between the smooth cream sauce and the mentaiko, the combination was unbeatable. Nothing like a Western-style pasta place — the richness and saltiness here made it the perfect drinking snack. Next up, the 7 kinds of yakitori. The fragrance was indescribable. They give you oddly shaped skewers that make it easy to slide the meat off. Total pojangmacha (street food tent) vibes,,,☁ I just love izakayas like this ㅠ You're not supposed to start with carbs, but this one lured me in first ㅠ But it really was that good. > It was so good I couldn't quite believe it was real. Honestly, when I drink, I usually go for protein-based snacks over carbs, so I wondered if pasta would even fit. But it was insanely, ridiculously good. This is why you need to come with someone whose taste is a little different from yours but still in the same general category — you get to try a wider range of delicious food. Prepare to briefly pass out from happiness,,, even the batter on the chicken wings was special. Overall, these were the kind of snacks that call for beer. And on top of that, they were actually delicious — jackpot. The 7-kind yakitori set includes green onion thigh meat, skin, drumette, neck meat, knee cartilage, wing, and heart — the lineup can change depending on stock, but based on what we tasted, it seemed like nearly everything was on the menu that night(?). Slurp. ## Naiba Hutto's storefront on the way out By the time we finished eating, the customers around us had all changed, and only then did I think to photograph the exterior~ Plus, with a Gyodong izakaya atmosphere like this, you can't leave without a photo. Yakitori-fueled and happy~ Side note: the candy in my pocket was something the owner gave us at checkout, which I absentmindedly tucked away — and thanks to my, ahem, generously-sized thighs, one of them made a great escape(...)
