## In short

Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is a squid-ink potato bread bakery café on Haksapyeong-gil in Sokcho. I parked in the store's own lot right out front and took away a 4-pack of squid-ink potato bread for 10,000 won and a 12-pack of Sokcho jjondeugi (chewy dried snack strips) for 10,000 won, then reheated the bread in the microwave for 20 seconds. Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread is an easy quick stop by car for an unusual snack to bring home.

## Parking and storefront: is Bultan Gamja Bread easy to reach by car?

Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store has a really spacious dedicated parking lot right in front, so visiting by car was genuinely easy. I could buy right after getting out of the car, making it a great quick stop for takeout during a Sokcho trip.

True to its name ("bultan" means "burnt"), Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread has a distinctive look from the outside.

When I parked and looked at the store, the exterior was quite different from a typical bakery café — it really caught my eye!

Especially with such a huge parking lot right in front, there was zero parking stress — being able to buy right after stepping out of the car made it perfect for a quick takeout stop during the trip.

There are also separate men's and women's restrooms inside the café~

## Inside the store and visiting with kids

The inside of Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store was bigger and cleaner than I expected, giving it more of a café feel where you can rest for a while rather than just a takeout counter. There's a microwave on one side so you can heat up the potato bread right away.

Once inside, the space was bigger and cleaner than I expected. Instead of feeling like a plain takeout shop, it had more of a café vibe where you could stop and rest for a bit — nice for a travel break.

There's a microwave set up on one side, so you can heat up the potato bread and eat it warm right there~

Another point that made it seem good for visiting with kids was the muse toy!

> When you buy a muse toy, they also give you materials so you can decorate it yourself right there in the café.

It's not just a place to buy bread — kids can do a hands-on activity while adults enjoy bread and a rest, so it'd be especially good for visitors looking for things to do with kids in Sokcho!

## Menu and prices at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread

The signature menu at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread is, well, Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread itself, made and sold on the same day as a rule. This time I bought a 4-pack of squid-ink potato bread for ₩10,000 and a 12-pack of Sokcho jjondeugi for ₩10,000 together.

![Displayed potato breads and gift set packaging](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-burnt-potato-bread-parking-takeout/sokcho-burnt-potato-bread-parking-takeout-14-1ryfv-966.webp)

- Squid-ink potato bread, 4-pack — ₩10,000
- Sokcho jjondeugi, 12-pack — ₩10,000

This time I bought both the potato bread and the jjondeugi together. The potato breads are individually wrapped, so they'd also work well as travel gifts or snacks to share.

## How does the squid-ink potato bread taste reheated?

After about 20 seconds in the microwave, the squid-ink potato bread was soft and chewy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. With cream cheese and butter mixed in, it was savory and not too sweet, so I could keep eating without feeling weighed down.

![Takeout bag of potato bread](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-burnt-potato-bread-parking-takeout/sokcho-burnt-potato-bread-parking-takeout-15-vjohm-966.webp)

I ordered it for takeout and got it right away.

Seeing the squid-ink potato bread for the first time, it doesn't look like the potato bread you usually picture — it's black like a lump of charcoal, which gives it a really unique look, haha.

![Potato filling inside a halved potato bread](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-burnt-potato-bread-parking-takeout/sokcho-burnt-potato-bread-parking-takeout-18-1cyaa-966.webp)

They say the color comes from squid ink, and when I split it in half, the chewy dough was packed with potato filling inside. After about 20 seconds in the microwave, the outside was soft and chewy while the inside had a nicely fluffy potato texture.

Maybe because of the cream cheese and butter, it had a savory richness on top of the potato's plain flavor, and it wasn't as sweet as I expected — which I liked!

In particular, it wasn't artificially oversweetened, so I could keep eating it without feeling heavy.

### The Sokcho jjondeugi 12-pack set

The 12-pack of Sokcho jjondeugi comes in a cute squid-shaped package, which would especially appeal to anyone who loves old-school Korean snacks. With several pieces inside, it also seemed good as a gift.

The Sokcho jjondeugi I packed along came in a cute squid-shaped package — exactly the kind of visual that anyone who loves old-school snacks would like!

![Sokcho jjondeugi taken out of the bag](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-burnt-potato-bread-parking-takeout/sokcho-burnt-potato-bread-parking-takeout-22-npc20-966.webp)

It has a chewy bite that feels like a nostalgic snack, offering a different kind of fun from the potato bread. Since it's made using a Sokcho specialty, it also felt good to pick up as a travel souvenir, and with several pieces inside it seemed great for gifting.

## Verdict and what could be better

There are already so many good bakeries in Sokcho, but Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread stood out for its distinct look and flavor, both.

The black squid-ink dough is packed full of potato filling, plus the savory richness of cream cheese and butter, giving it a feel that's a bit different from your typical sweet dessert bread!

Still, if you're looking for something a bit different from the usual Sokcho snacks as a gift, this could be a good choice~

Would I revisit? ⭐⭐⭐⭐

One drawback: since it's made and sold same-day only, going late means the item you want might already be sold out.

One-line summary! A Sokcho potato bread spot with chewy squid-ink dough packed full of plain, savory potato filling!
