## In short

Yeongdong Pocha is a retro pojangmacha-style bar on the second floor of a building a short walk from exit 3 of Nonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. For a late-night meal with a friend, the writer ordered kkomjangeo (spicy stir-fried hagfish) and kkotgetang (blue crab stew), adding ramyeon noodles to the stew from the very start and soaking them in the fiery broth. The kkomjangeo, kkotgetang and ramyeon were all seasoned just right, making the writer's chance of returning to Yeongdong Pocha 100%.

## Where is Yeongdong Pocha? Second floor by Nonhyeon Station exit 3

My friend and I wanted something spicy for a late-night bite, so we headed to Yeongdong Pocha. It's within walking distance of exit 3 of Nonhyeon Station, on the 2nd floor of its building.

From the sign to the interior, the place is full of retro pojangmacha (street tent bar) vibes — worth checking out if you're looking for a Sinnonhyeon Station bar or love that outdoor tent-drinking atmosphere.

Yeongdong Pocha sits on the brightly lit 2nd floor, so it was easy to spot from a distance. Menu photos are set up in front of the stairway entrance, making it easy to find even on a first visit.

## Yeongdong Pocha's interior: street tent-bar mood, indoors

Walking in, the first things I noticed were the yellow round tables, pojangmacha-style chairs, and walls covered in graffiti. It had that curated-yet-uncurated retro feel, great for chatting comfortably over drinks. With several tables available, it also looked good for small gatherings or work dinners.

Even indoors, the free-spirited pojangmacha atmosphere came through well. I liked that you could enjoy that outdoor-tent feeling regardless of the weather. It's a great place to visit when you're after a laid-back Sinnonhyeon Station bar.

Once seated, we were given water and a basic side snack — crunchy raw ramyeon noodles sprinkled with ramyeon soup powder.

## Yeongdong Pocha kkomjangeo: sweet-spicy hagfish to pile onto rice

The kkomjangeo (spicy stir-fried eel) came out stir-fried in a glossy sauce.

One bite revealed that signature chewy texture, with the sweet-spicy sauce soaked all the way through. It was delicious on its own, but even better piled over a bowl of rice, where the rich sauce paired especially well. The seasoning wasn't overly salty but had enough savory depth that my chopsticks kept going back for more. It worked well both as a filling meal with rice and as a slow-sipping bar snack.

## Yeongdong Pocha kkotgetang: fiery broth loaded with blue crab and clams

The kkotgetang (crab stew) arrived in a wide pot loaded with crab, clams and vegetables. As it bubbled away on the table, the seafood flavor infused into the broth, deepening both its color and taste.

The first spoonful of broth was spicy yet clean-tasting, with great savory depth. The seasoning was spot on, so I kept going back for more spoonfuls of just the broth. After the spicy kkomjangeo, following up with the hot kkotgetang broth made for a great combination.

![A meaty crab fished out of the stew](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongdong-pocha-gomjangeo-ramyeon/yeongdong-pocha-gomjangeo-ramyeon-17-kytem-900.webp)

![Rice topped with crab meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongdong-pocha-gomjangeo-ramyeon/yeongdong-pocha-gomjangeo-ramyeon-19-tza8m-900.webp)

The crab had a fair amount of meat, and it was fun fishing out the plump clams one by one.

We picked out the crab meat with a spoon and ate it with the broth, or piled it onto rice. The portion was generous enough to share with a friend, making it a good choice for a group drinking session. Between the hearty snacks and the relaxed outdoor-tent atmosphere, this is the kind of place I'd think of again when looking for a bar near Sinnonhyeon Station.

## Why the ramyeon noodles were worth adding from the start

We ordered the ramyeon noodle add-in right from the start, and dug in as soon as the kkotgetang started boiling. The spicy broth, rich with seafood flavor, soaked deeply into the noodles, so even the noodles alone were full of flavor.

![Firm ramyeon noodles soaked in broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongdong-pocha-gomjangeo-ramyeon/yeongdong-pocha-gomjangeo-ramyeon-21-1tu4a-900.webp)

![Kimchi and vegetables soaked in the broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongdong-pocha-gomjangeo-ramyeon/yeongdong-pocha-gomjangeo-ramyeon-23-167t0-900.webp)

Topping the firm noodles with crab meat, clams and vegetables made the dish even heartier and more filling. The broth-soaked kimchi and vegetables also went well with the noodles — I was glad we'd greedily added the noodles from the start, since we were hungry.

## Is Yeongdong Pocha worth a return visit?

From the kkomjangeo to the kkotgetang to the ramyeon noodles, everything was seasoned just right. Nothing was overly salty or bland — every dish had good savory depth, so I enjoyed it to the last bite. It worked well as a bar snack, and eating it with rice made for a satisfying meal too.

The retro interior and pojangmacha atmosphere matched the food well. If you're looking for a bar near Sinnonhyeon Station with that outdoor-tent feeling, Yeongdong Pocha is worth a visit. Everything we ate that day suited my taste perfectly, so my return visit rating is 100%. I'm planning to go back soon and try some of the other snacks I didn't get to order this time.
