Today I went to a great spot for brunch in the Sangmu district — Bueokgan (Sangmu Branch)

## What I ordered: truffle mushroom cream gnocchi and truffle mushroom pizza

I was craving gnocchi and pizza in Sangmu, so I headed to Bueokgan Sangmu Branch. Turns out it's a famous pasta spot in the area — well known across Gwangju too. I ordered truffle mushroom cream gnocchi, truffle mushroom pizza, zero-sugar cola, and grapefruit juice. I love the rich, savory flavor of mushrooms and truffle, so this time I really ordered according to my taste.

## 2:40pm, a quiet hour — how was the service?

To cut to the conclusion: the food itself was delicious, but the service and hygiene management during my visit left a bit to be desired.

I arrived around 2:40pm. It wasn't break time — normal business hours — and since it was after the lunch peak, the restaurant was nearly empty.

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch uses tablet PCs at the tables for ordering, but the one at my seat wasn't working properly. I went back and forth checking three or four other tables to see if I could use their tablets, and only then did a staff member come over to help.

It seemed like the staff were in the middle of their own meal at the time. Of course staff need meal breaks too, but since it was regular business hours and not break time, I think a quick word of guidance when I walked in would have made a big difference.

Even after ordering, it took over 20 minutes for the food to arrive. If the place had been busy, I'd have completely understood, but since it was quite quiet during my visit, the wait felt longer than expected. It seemed like my order wasn't checked and prepared until the staff had mostly finished their meal, which was a bit disappointing.

Overall, I wished the service had been a little friendlier. Visiting during a late lunch hour meant it overlapped with the staff's mealtime, but as a customer arriving during normal hours, a more comfortable welcome would have made a much better first impression.

## Things that stood out about the table, cups, and pizza serving

There were also a few things that stood out about hygiene management in the restaurant. The table didn't feel fully cleaned, and I noticed something on the cup I was given, which made me double-check it before using it.

One thing that bothered me in particular was how the pizza was served. The pizza and the plate it sat on were nearly the same size, so when the staff member picked up the plate to set it on the table, their hand directly touched the edge of the pizza. Since this is food you eat right away, that kind of thing naturally raises hygiene concerns. It wasn't really the staff member's fault — with almost no gap between the pizza and the plate, it looked genuinely hard to grip only the plate while serving.

Using a slightly larger plate than the pizza, or adjusting the serving method, would likely solve this naturally — hopefully it improves going forward.

## The taste of the truffle mushroom cream gnocchi

That said, aside from these issues, the food itself was good.

First, the truffle mushroom cream gnocchi had a soft, rich cream sauce layered with mushroom flavor and truffle aroma — savory and deep.

Since it's the same mushroom-and-truffle combination, I worried it might taste too similar to the gnocchi, but eating it in person, the pizza had a totally different feel thanks to the dough and toppings.

The distinct truffle aroma paired nicely with the savory mushroom flavor, and it worked well eaten in alternation with the cream gnocchi. If you like truffle, ordering both together is a solid combination.

For drinks, I ordered zero-sugar cola and grapefruit juice. Since both the gnocchi and pizza were rich and savory, the refreshing grapefruit juice in between was great for cleansing the palate. The zero-sugar cola was, as expected, a reliable match for the pizza.
