With the weather being so nice lately, I keep thinking about outdoor pub seating after work, so this time I went to Kkalkkali Jokbal, a place near my house that's famous as a go-to spot near Bucheon University. I go here fairly often since it's close by, but it's also great because they have outdoor seating — perfect for jokbal (pork trotters) and a beer after work. Went out for some outdoor dining vibes.

Kkalkkali Jokbal Bucheon Branch is a ground-floor spot you'll find by heading down the alley from where Hwangso Doljang Gopchang is near Bucheon Station and just walking straight. Lately with the nice weather, plenty of customers come for the outdoor seating — when it's too hot or too cold, eating inside is more popular, but when the weather's this mild and pleasant, everyone seems to want to sit outside.

Feeling the outside breeze while eating delicious jokbal and drinking cold beer — how good is that mood!

### The free bowl of fruit makguksu

They gave us free fruit makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) last time I came too, and it looks like they're still doing it now. So great! Even if it weren't a free service, I'd order makguksu to go with jokbal anyway — but free?!

### Sitting at a four-person outdoor table

We got an outdoor table, and the atmosphere was just so nice!!!! The 4-top tables were spacious with a call bell right there, so there was nothing inconvenient about it at all haha.

## Why order the medium chewy half-and-half jokbal?

Each table had a menu set up, and there were quite a few half-and-half sets, but after some thought we went with the chewy half-and-half jokbal. Regular jokbal here is tasty too, but the fried jokbal is really the standout! So we chose the medium chewy half-and-half so we could enjoy both the fried jokbal and the spicy jokbal together!!!

### The side dishes and salted shrimp dip

After ordering, they bring out the basic side dishes that pair well with jokbal — chives, lettuce, peppers, garlic, dried radish strips, salted shrimp, ssamjang, and pickled onions — all seasoned just right. I especially love pairing jokbal with salted shrimp, and the salted shrimp here is genuinely delicious!! It's the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for more — highly recommend the fried jokbal and salted shrimp combo!

### Hot bean sprout soup for a hangover

Along with the side dishes comes a warm bean sprout soup, and I absolutely love this. A lot of other restaurants serve their bean sprout soup cold, but here it comes out hot with just the right seasoning — the kind of flavor that really settles your stomach!! Honestly I'd had a bit too much soju the night before and was hoping something would fix that, and with every spoonful of this soup I was like ahh~ so good~ so refreshing~ haha. This really does seem like a great spot to go the day after drinking, for the hangover cure.

## How do the fried jokbal and spicy jokbal taste?

At Kkalkkali Jokbal, famous for jokbal near Bucheon University, the main dish — the chewy half-and-half jokbal — arrived, and isn't the presentation amazing?!?! Glossy shine all over, with a nice balance of fat and lean meat.

As soon as it arrived, I ate the fried jokbal first before the spicy one! I figured if I ate the spicy version first, I wouldn't be able to properly enjoy the fried jokbal because of the lingering heat — so fried first, and wow... it's seriously delicious! So soft and tender it practically melts in your mouth. Delivery jokbal is good too, but eating it at the restaurant like this is definitely softer and served warmer, which I think makes it even better!

I tried the spicy jokbal plain and also wrapped in lettuce as ssam, and the sauce is sweet and spicy without being unpleasantly hot — spicy in a delicious way, making it perfect as a beer snack. The spicy jokbal is tender too, and if you like spicy food, this is a must-order.

The free makguksu wasn't a small portion either, and eating it alongside the jokbal — the tangy-sweet noodles combining with the rich, savory jokbal — worked so well together!! Jokbal with makguksu — of course it's delicious, no need to even say it. If you want tender jokbal, want to enjoy it outdoors, or are looking for a good spot near Bucheon University, Kkalkkali Jokbal is worth a visit for both the jokbal and the outdoor seating experience.
