Today I went with my mom to celebrate autumn with grilled gizzard shad and grilled king shrimp with salt. Honestly, since I don't have a car😭 I had zero expectations — I just went to mark the start of fall — but wow, today's autumn menu items were so, so good?🍁

My mom, who rarely gives a thumbs up even when we eat a lot of good food together, actually gave this place a thumbs up. This is the Yeonsu-dong, Incheon seafood restaurant "Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch."

Veteran General Fish Market sits on the 3rd floor of the building right in front of Exit 4 of Incheon Yeonsu Station! You can get 3 hours of free parking if you park in the basement, so it's a great spot to visit whether you drive or come on foot!

I've seen Veteran General Fish Market branches all over Incheon, but I have to say this is the best seafood restaurant chain I've been to, haha~

The interior was much bigger and more comfortable than I expected. With so many different tables, it seemed like a great place for a date, a hangout with friends, a group gathering, or a family meal — for anyone, really.

There are private rooms and partitioned seating too, so it seemed easy and comfortable to dine here with a group!

Sashimi tends to run pricier, so people usually come as a group rather than a duo, but Veteran General Fish Market offers different sizes so the price feels less of a burden. They also say they bring in fresh seafood from Yeonan Pier every dawn, so the ingredients are good quality! (Honestly, just looking at how busy it is with customers, the turnover alone guarantees freshness.)

Banchan (side dishes) like sashimi salad, quail eggs, seaweed soup, and pollack roe are served by default, and you can also grab things like rakkyo & ginger, salad, white kimchi, corn salad, lettuce wraps, and ssamjang from the self-serve bar.

And now the moment we've been waiting for — the dessert corner❤️ There's tricolor ice cream, the kind that was always at Korean BBQ places when I was a kid, plus a coffee machine, so you can really get your money's worth all the way to dessert. Actually, I love ice cream so much that as soon as I started living alone, I bought that same dream tricolor ice cream and an ice cream scoop from Coupang and ate it for months — and today I still had 3 cups of ice cream😳

The side dishes were tasty overall and had great variety — I loved it!

## Salt-grilled raw shrimp (small), 30,000 won for about 15 shrimp

- Grilled raw shrimp with salt (small): ₩30,000

The small grilled raw shrimp with salt came out to about 15 shrimp. It was a good amount for two people, and while the shrimp were obviously smaller than at a dedicated king prawn grilling spot, they were plump and full, sweet and delicious enough that I'd want to come back just for the salt-grilled shrimp again. You could really feel the freshness in how they were still flopping around.

Grill them until golden brown, peel off the shell, and eat. (My mom ate one before I even got a chance to take a photo, lol.) They provide both cotton gloves and plastic gloves, so it's easy to peel them comfortably!

These are the fried shrimp we got from the receipt review event. They were as crispy as they look ❤️ No chili sauce though.

And now, the moment we've been waiting for — grilled gizzard shad, haha. They say gizzard shad is so delicious it makes even a runaway daughter-in-law come home. My mom loves gizzard shad so much that we ordered it, and since they start grilling only after you order, it took a while — about 20 to 25 minutes.

The meat was plump and full, grilled to a nice golden brown, and we really enjoyed eating it well :) Six fish was too much for two people, so we packed the remaining 3 to take home!

## Final verdict: mom's thumbs up and a return trip to Veteran Fish Market

So that's my trip to the Yeonsu-dong seafood restaurant "Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch" today. Between the variety of menu items, the great value for money, and the side dishes that paired so well, it was such a satisfying meal!

Honestly, since it's a chain seafood restaurant, I went in with no expectations, but I was so satisfied that I think I'll come back again. It's the place that even got a thumbs up from my picky mom, who rarely gives one — truly a delicious spot worth revisiting❤️
