## In short

Anok is a Korean restaurant in a hanok (traditional Korean house) on Hongik-ro in Mapo, Seoul, serving Pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) and clear pork gomtang (bone broth soup). Arriving at 2pm after a 12-minute walk from Sangsu Station, the writer ordered three dishes — clear pork gomtang at 13,000 won, Pyeongyang naengmyeon at 14,000 won and pork tail jjim at 29,000 won — all in regular size, skipping the 4,000 won 'special' upgrade. Between the mild buckwheat broth and the chewy pork tail jjim, Anok is a calm spot worth returning to for a date-night dinner.

A quiet, elegant hanok (traditional Korean house) setting makes Anok, a Hongdae spot for Pyeongyang naengmyeon and clear pork gomtang, a great pick for a date-night dinner.

## Where is Anok, and how long is the walk from Hongik University Station?

Anok is a 7-minute walk from Exit 9 of Hongik University Station. We debated transferring at Hapjeong on Line 6, but ended up getting off at Sangsu Station and walking instead — it took about 12 minutes.

Such a stylish, elegant hanok exterior — I had no idea a place like this existed in Hongdae. A calm spot to sit and enjoy a meal. We came in the afternoon, but I bet the building itself looks even more beautiful in the evening.

## Inside Anok at 2pm: hanok interior and seating

We visited Anok at 2pm and it was already busy. The space is on the smaller side, but the crowd ranged from solo diners to groups. Did everyone hear about this place by word of mouth?

![Anok's dining hall filled with customers](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok-06-xx8o6-900.webp)

Maybe because it's a Korean restaurant, the atmosphere felt relaxed and steady. Even though it was our first visit, nothing felt unfamiliar.

Every table has a handy tablet ordering machine, so a few taps and you're done! The menu isn't too big and isn't too small — just the right size.

## Anok's side dishes: gungchae jangajji (pickled lettuce stems) and a house ssamjang

Anok's sides include gungchae jangajji (pickled aster stems), napa cabbage kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste dip). Looks house-made — savory and delicious. Not too salty even eaten plain, seasoning is just right. I bet it would be amazing spooned over a bowl of gukbap (soup with rice).

![Anok's gungchae jangajji and napa cabbage kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok-13-1et82-900.webp)

And the kkakdugi — do I even need to say it? But the real surprise was the ssamjang. It's not just plain ssamjang — there's some special flavor to it, and I kept reaching for more... absolutely addictive. Whatever they put in it, I couldn't stop going back for it.

Pepper and salt are also set out at every table. So clean. Just looking at this tells you how well-managed the place is.

## Clear pork gomtang, 13,000 won: why skip the 4,000 won special size?

Ta-da~~~ the dish I was most looking forward to, Anok's clear pork gomtang (₩13,000). The broth alone grabs your attention.

Just look how clear that broth is. I prefer a clear, translucent broth over a milky one, and this is total rice-thief material!!!!

![Broth of Anok's clear pork gomtang](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok-16-mis65-900.webp)

![Clear pork gomtang with thin-sliced meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok-17-1ph54-900.webp)

For just ₩4,000 more you can upgrade to the special, but since we ordered three dishes we didn't bother. Normally I'd go for the special, haha. The meat itself is tender and soft — it shreds apart the moment you pick it up. How is it this delicate?

Sliced thin like shaved meat 💛🤤 It melts away after just a few chews. The prep work is so good there's no gamey smell at all.

Piled generously over rice — bite! Eating it with the kkakdugi and napa cabbage kimchi makes it even more refreshing and delicious. That crisp, crunchy texture 🧡 impossible not to love.

The rice portion was just right too — not too much, not too little. This place... really knows how to do pork gomtang. I'll definitely be coming back here.

## Pyeongyang naengmyeon, 14,000 won: mild broth and buckwheat noodles

Anok's Pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle soup) is ₩14,000. Look at the size of the cold boiled pork topping 🤤 — I've never seen slices that big.

The color alone is gorgeous. This is exactly the moment the word 'radiant' comes to mind.

What I love most is how tender it is, with a noticeably higher lean-to-fat ratio. How did they slice it this thin without it falling apart? Genuinely impressive.

![Anok's Pyeongyang naengmyeon topped with a large slice of cold pork](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok-18-psoht-900.webp)

Under the toppings sits an appetizing bed of noodles. Ah, it's been a while since I've had naengmyeon. It's a love-it-or-hate-it dish, but I'm firmly in the love-it camp!!!

This mild, unseasoned broth is the real charm here — it hits my taste buds exactly right. Real Pyeongyang naengmyeon shouldn't be heavily seasoned, and this one isn't salty at all, with that distinctive flavor fully intact.

![Buckwheat noodles and mild broth of the naengmyeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok-19-qf061-900.webp)

The noodles carry a strong buckwheat aroma too, with a nutty flavor spreading with every chew. Ah, do they not do a double portion~~~~🤍 It's been hard to find a good Pyeongyang naengmyeon spot, but I think I've finally found my go-to.

## Pork tail jjim, 29,000 won: how does it work as a drinking dish?

Anok's pork tail jjim (braised pork tail) is ₩29,000. It's slathered in a spicy sauce that gives it a charcoal-grilled look. It's technically a braised dish, but the slightly matte sauce makes it look even more appetizing~~

![Anok's spicy pork tail jjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok-22-cvdo1-900.webp)

![Close-up of pork tail jjim sprinkled with sesame seeds](https://img.superchart.com/images/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok/hongdae-pyeongyang-naengmyeon-anok-hanok-23-1nqhc-900.webp)

This special sauce is truly addictive. The sesame seeds are scattered on so carefully that it looks even more delicious ㅠㅠ Spicy and sweet, I couldn't stop eating it. I'd strongly recommend this as a drinking snack.

So much chewy collagen clinging to it that every bite has that springy, bouncy texture. Ah, my mouth is watering just thinking about it now, hahaha.

Every bone comes generously wrapped in meat, and since it's basically a collagen block, I picked every last bit clean. That chewiness is unforgettable.

So bouncy and springy, it's unbelievable. Coated so well in the sauce that it's exactly my style~~~~~~ The flavor soaks all the way through, no need for soy sauce or any other dip!

## Is Anok worth a second visit?

A Hongdae spot for Pyeongyang naengmyeon and pork gomtang where you can eat calmly in a hanok setting! Great food, but the quality is what makes me want to come back again! Anok, thanks for the meal.
