Craving okonomiyaki, the writer ordered the signature 2-person set at Gusa Yeonnam and received it course by course: yakisoba (stir-fried noodles) eaten with a pile of ginger on top, wagyu and black tiger shrimp grilled on the teppan, and the cheese-pull Gusa okonomiyaki (savory pancake). I have a hidden talent(?) — eating the same type of food over and over. Once I lock onto something, I go hunting for every version of it. The type changes every time, but it's like the menu just flashes into my head out of nowhere. So this time's menu? Okonomiyaki. I really love this whole category — okonomiyaki, takoyaki, yakisoba and the like. And you know bonito flakes and a generous drizzle of sauce are non-negotiable. Come out of Exit 3 and walk straight along Yeontral Park until you hit a small crosswalk (you know the one) and see a Hollys — go straight toward 2 o'clock, and when you spot a convenience store, hook right around it! Oh, and since there's no parking, I'd recommend using a nearby public lot. Sipping draft beer with teppan food while a cool breeze blows — ahh, is there anything better than that. I really wanted one, but I had something important the next day so I held back, ugh.
