## In short

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is a takeout pie bakery near the main street of Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju. Timing the visit to the 11:30am and 2:30pm bake times, the writer tried the 3-flavor premium gift set of 6 (₩27,000), split into 4 apple pies, 1 red bean pie, and 1 chocolate pie. The whole-apple texture instead of apple jam was the most memorable part, making it a solid alternative to the usual Gyeongju bread for a travel gift.

Traveling around Gyeongju, you're bound to look for a nice dessert or travel gift somewhere along Hwangnidan-gil. Instead of the usual Gyeongju bread you see everywhere, I went looking for something a bit different and ended up at Gyeongju Tokyo Pie.

The name itself is a bit unusual, but what really caught my curiosity was that this isn't your typical apple pie with apple jam inside — it's made with whole apple pieces! This time I picked up the 3-flavor premium gift set and tried the apple pie, the red bean pie, and the chocolate pie together. Here's my honest review :)

The shop is pretty small, giving off that quick-stop, grab-and-go takeout dessert vibe.

Above all, the owner was really kind, which made the visit feel even better. Taste matters at a dessert shop, but a warm welcome like this tends to stick in your memory.

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie also packages its gift sets neatly, so I'd recommend it if you're looking for a not-so-common dessert gift while in Gyeongju.

## What's in the 3-flavor premium gift set, and the price

![3-flavor premium gift set of 6 pies](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-11-m48t3-966.webp)

What I ordered this time was the 3-flavor premium gift set of 6 for ₩27,000. It's made up of 6 pieces total, and I chose:

- ✅ 4 Gyeongju Tokyo Pies (apple)
- ✅ 1 Tokyo Red Bean Pie
- ✅ 1 Tokyo Chocolate Pie

You can fill the box with all apple pies if you want, but I wanted to try a few different flavors, so I went with a mix of three :)

It comes packaged neatly in a box, which makes it a decent souvenir to bring home from a Gyeongju trip. In the photo the lid is open, but to avoid trapping moisture, you're supposed to gently close the lid about an hour after buying! It'd make a nice change from the usual Gyeongju bread if you're picking up a Gyeongju travel gift for parents or friends.

There are also various events running. I joined a Naver event and the owner gave me an americano on the house, which normally costs ₩3,900 — it went great with the pie, and the coffee itself was tasty too ❤️

## Comparing the apple, red bean, and chocolate pies

![Gyeongju Tokyo Pie's signature apple pie](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-15-v8yyn-966.webp)

### The signature apple pie, with whole apple still intact

What I was most excited for was, of course, the signature apple pie at Gyeongju Tokyo Pie. Most apple pies use apple jam or filling, but this one keeps the apple's natural texture by using whole pieces instead — that's the biggest standout.

![Cross-section of the pie showing whole apple pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-16-15761-966.webp)

Biting in, the outer pastry was crisp while the inside had that soft apple texture. What I liked most was that it wasn't just sweet — you could taste the apple's natural sweetness alongside its tartness. Since the pastry is made with real butter, there was a subtle, savory butter flavor too.

![A bite of the apple pie showing its crisp pastry](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-17-15xsr-966.webp)

Instead of being intensely sweet like jam, it really lets the apple texture shine, and the crispness of the pastry paired with the buttery flavor worked really well. Personally, the apple pie was my favorite.

![Tokyo Red Bean Pie with domestic red bean paste](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-18-1nx6a-966.webp)

### Tokyo Red Bean Pie with domestic red bean paste

Next was the Tokyo Red Bean Pie. It's packed with domestic red bean paste, and you can really taste the nutty flavor characteristic of red beans. Rather than an overly sweet paste, it had a mellow sweetness that felt lighter, and the crisp pastry paired well with the soft red bean filling. If you like red bean desserts, this one should suit your taste too.

### Rich chocolate in the Tokyo Chocolate Pie

Last up was the Tokyo Chocolate Pie. It's the real-butter pastry with a rich chocolate flavor added in. Where the apple pie felt light and refreshing, the chocolate pie was richer and sweeter — a totally different kind of appeal.

![Tokyo Chocolate Pie with rich chocolate flavor](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-20-14am0-966.webp)

![Cross-section of the chocolate pie](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-21-15uks-966.webp)

After trying all three, the apple pie leaned light and refreshing, the red bean pie was nutty and soft, and the chocolate pie was rich and sweet — so it's easy to pick based on your mood. That's why for a first visit, a gift set like this one that lets you try several flavors at once feels like a solid choice.

## Would this make a good Gyeongju travel gift?

![All three Tokyo Pie flavors set out together](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-22-7kb1y-966.webp)

What stood out most at Gyeongju Tokyo Pie was, again, the apple pie. Being able to taste actual apple texture instead of apple jam made it different from a typical apple pie. And beyond just the apple flavor, having red bean and chocolate options too made it fun to compare.

![Pie box packaged as a Gyeongju travel souvenir](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set/gyeongju-tokyo-pie-baking-times-gift-set-23-bva5s-966.webp)

The 3-flavor premium gift set especially comes packaged neatly, so I think it's a solid option if you're looking for a Gyeongju travel souvenir. If you've had a meal and coffee around Hwangnidan-gil and are looking for something to bring home, stopping by Gyeongju Tokyo Pie for a box of pie sounds like a good idea.

If you're looking for a slightly different dessert on Gyeongju's Hwangnidan-gil, I'd recommend Gyeongju Tokyo Pie ❤️
