## Still hot in September: why a cold bowl of milmyeon in Ulsan

Now that it's September, mornings and evenings have definitely gotten cooler... so why am I still so hot? 😂 The sun is still strong and I sweat during the day, so I went looking for a restaurant with no break time for a late lunch and found this place — Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch, near Ulsan Terminal!

I thought it'd be nice to have some cold milmyeon along with dumplings, so I went. They said they've been making milmyeon for 25 years, so I visited curious about the flavor!

## What we ordered at Samsam Milmyeon and what it cost

That day at Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch I ordered three things: water milmyeon in a double portion, bibim milmyeon, and dumplings. Here's today's menu first.

Both of us prefer water milmyeon, so I ordered that in a double portion, but skipping bibim milmyeon would feel like something's missing, right? haha So I added dumplings too and set up a full milmyeon spread.

They said parking gets 1 hour of support if you use Daegyeong Parking Lot or Paldo Paid Parking Lot. Also, during Chuseok holiday they operate normally until 5pm except on the actual holiday day, so that's worth noting if you're planning a visit!

## How to find Samsam Milmyeon near Ulsan Terminal

Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch is near Ulsan Terminal so it was easy to find. Above all, the sign is big so it catches your eye from far away. Even on a first visit, it doesn't feel hard to find!

If you're looking for somewhere to eat near the terminal, or trying to figure out lunch during a trip to Ulsan, this place seems fine to add to your route. Especially handy is that it has no break time, useful for an awkwardly timed late lunch!

## Is Samsam Milmyeon comfortable for eating alone?

Going inside, the place was spacious and clean. It seemed fine both for a simple solo meal and for a family or group. A baby chair is available too! And personally what I liked was that there's seating where you take your shoes off.

When I sit in seats like this, my feet feel comfortable so I end up eating more at ease haha. Even without staying long, I liked the feeling of eating comfortably with shoes off.

The menu board was simple too. Centered on their signature water milmyeon, bibim milmyeon, and dumplings, there wasn't much need to agonize over the menu. Each table has a tablet installed, so ordering was convenient too!

## Warm broth and side dishes served before the noodles

The first thing that came after ordering was warm broth. These days some milmyeon places don't offer warm broth separately, so it was nice that they gave it to us! Tasting it, the broth was deep and rich. Hot yet strangely refreshing haha. Sipping the warm broth while waiting for the milmyeon got my appetite going properly.

## Water milmyeon, double portion: icy slush on top

First, the water milmyeon I was most looking forward to! With icy slush floating on top, it looked refreshing just to see, and ordering the double portion meant a really generous amount of noodles.

What especially caught my eye was the topping — the meat piece on top was quite large.

Lifting the noodles with chopsticks, they were chewy! And the broth was richer than I expected.

At Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch, they say the broth is made from Korean female cattle bones using natural ingredients with no additives, and maybe that's why the deep flavor of the broth stood out. Refreshing but not watery, with a rich feel — this water milmyeon was great. This kind of dish really is perfect on a hot day.

Looking for milmyeon in Dal-dong, water milmyeon was actually the first thing I thought of, and that day I was glad I ordered the double portion.

## Bibim milmyeon and how spicy the sauce is

And then bibim milmyeon! We lean toward water milmyeon, but not eating bibim milmyeon would leave something missing haha. Since we came to a milmyeon restaurant, you've got to have at least one bibim, right? haha

The bibim came already mixed, like a pre-seasoned meat marinade, so I didn't have to struggle mixing it myself ♥️ The sauce was really generous, nothing lacking, and the flavor leaned spicy.

But rather than just being intensely spicy for the sake of it, the spiciness felt like the centerpiece of the flavor, so I think it'll suit anyone who likes spicy food. There were bits of raw fish mixed in too, giving it some fun texture,

and personally I liked that the bibim milmyeon noodles felt chewier than the water milmyeon ones. And the cucumber topping is really generous 😂 I like cucumber so that worked for me, but if you're not a fan, it might be worth asking them to leave it out when ordering!

## Dumplings to order alongside the milmyeon

And a dish I personally think you should order together is the dumplings. They have a slightly unique leaf-like shape, and the wrapper was chewy with good texture.

Taking a bite, the filling was packed in well too! Especially eating the dumplings together with the spicy sauce of the bibim milmyeon, the combination worked really well. If you're looking for dumplings near Ulsan Terminal, it's worth pairing them with the milmyeon!

Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch, visited for a late lunch on a still-hot day! From the cold water milmyeon to the spicy bibim milmyeon and the chewy dumplings, eating them all together made for a pretty filling meal!

The icy slush floating on top and the refreshing yet rich broth stood out, and the bibim's spicy sauce paired well with the chewy noodles. Adding dumplings rounded out the combination nicely. Having tried the milmyeon at Ulsan Samsam Milmyeon, which has kept the same flavor for 25 years, I think I'll remember it again whenever I want a cold meal on a hot day haha.
