## In short

Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch is a Japanese udon restaurant near Exit 6 of Daeyeon Station in Nam-gu, Busan, that also runs as an izakaya (Japanese pub) in the evening. Two diners ordered the shabu-shabu for two at ₩13,500 per person, added an extra vegetable plate, and ate their way through meat and vegetables, udon noodles and finally egg porridge. Despite the udon in its name, Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch serves a shabu-shabu that eats like a filling full-course meal.

I was looking for a warm, filling meal in Daeyeon-dong, Busan, and ended up at Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch (미식가의 우동), so let me introduce it!

![Visit photo of Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch in Daeyeon-dong](https://img.superchart.com/images/daeyeon-misikga-udon-shabu-shabu-course/daeyeon-misikga-udon-shabu-shabu-course-02-dboxx-900.webp)

This time I skipped the single udon bowls and tried the shabu-shabu for two instead. From the meat and vegetables to the udon noodles and the porridge at the end, the whole thing was far more satisfying than I expected, and I left totally full.

## Where is Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch?

Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch is at 227 Suyeong-ro, Nam-gu, Busan (1st floor; lot address Daeyeon-dong 1745-3), about 77 m from Daeyeon Station Exit 6. It's easy to find if you come by subway, and when I actually went, it was really convenient being so close to the station.

The building is brightly lit with a big sign, so I spotted it easily even at night. The 1st floor is Misikga-ui Udon, and the 2nd floor runs as Misikga-ui Grill & Shabu.

If you're driving, you can use the nearby Korea Hospital parking lot, and the notice says parking support is available for diners, so it's worth checking the details before you go.

## Opening hours and the staff shift change

Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with last order at 9 p.m. There's no break time, but according to the store notice, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. is a staff shift break, so fewer staff are on hand and food may take a bit longer to come out.

If you're short on time, keep that in mind.

## How do you order, and what's on the menu?

Every table has a tablet for ordering, so it was easy to browse the menu and order. There was a surprisingly wide range: udon, soba, tonkatsu and set meals, plus salmon rice bowls, eel rice bowls and shabu-shabu.

Because of the name (Misikga-ui means "gourmet's"), I assumed it was just an udon specialist, but once I looked closer, the choice of meals was pretty broad.

In the evening it also runs as an izakaya, and at the time of my visit there was a promotion notice for soju and draft beer at ₩1,990. The drink promotion may change over time, so please check at the store when you visit.

## What are the atmosphere and seating like?

The Japanese-style interior uses lots of wood tones, so it felt warm and comfortable. The first thing I noticed walking in was the mood: round lights and fabric partitions gave it that calm feeling typical of Japanese restaurants.

The tables are spaced out reasonably, so it was fairly comfortable while eating. There are also bar-style seats that suit solo diners, so eating alone looked fine too.

One wall displays commendations and certificates neatly in a row, and there are ceramic-style decorations here and there, which made it fun to look around. Another corner has a wall decoration and lighting that seem to depict a mountain, so it felt less like a simple udon shop and more like a place that put real thought into the overall space design.

## How much is shabu-shabu for two, and what comes with it?

The shabu-shabu at Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch is ₩13,500 per person, so ₩27,000 for two. We ordered the shabu-shabu for two, and when the table was set it was much more generous than I expected, which made a great first impression.

The meat came in a generous portion, and there were several kinds of vegetables, including napa cabbage, bok choy, bean sprouts, enoki, shiitake and oyster mushrooms. A few fish cake skewers and dumpling-type items came along with the meat too, so it was fun to pick them out one by one and add them to the pot.

By the way, you can see two plates of vegetables in the photo. Two plates are not included by default; one of them is the extra vegetable plate we ordered.

Shabu-shabu is just better when you load it up with vegetables, right? So we added one more vegetable plate, and it was a good call.

### A broth that gets richer with every vegetable and slice of meat

Once the broth started boiling, we added the vegetables one by one. With the napa cabbage, bean sprouts and various mushrooms, the pot filled up quickly, and then we cooked the thinly sliced meat piece by piece.

The meat is thin, so it cooked quickly without much waiting, and eating it with the vegetables and mushrooms made every bite easy and light. The meat was good lightly dipped in the provided sauce, and it also went well scooped up together with the broth and vegetables.

The broth was fairly clean at first, but as we kept cooking meat and vegetables in it, the flavor naturally came out and it got richer and richer. Scooping up warm broth with cabbage, mushrooms and meat all at once was perfect for this cooler weather.

Side dishes included kimchi, garlic, pickled radish and seasoned vegetables, which were nice to nibble on in between.

### Shabu-shabu isn't the end: adding udon noodles

After eating a good amount of meat and vegetables, you add the udon noodles. Plump udon noodles come on the side, and we dropped them into the remaining broth and simmered them a little longer.

With the udon going into a broth full of the flavor of meat and vegetables, it felt different from when we first started the shabu-shabu. The noodles were nicely thick and springy, so they were great slurped up with the broth.

Since this is shabu-shabu run by an udon specialist, ending with udon fit especially well.

### The finale: shabu-shabu egg fried rice (porridge)

When you've finished the shabu-shabu and udon, a finishing set is brought out with rice, minced carrot, scallions and seaweed flakes. Raw eggs come too, and apparently you can add the egg or not, as you like.

Of course, we decided to add the egg.

First, we ladled a little of the remaining broth into a bowl, then put the rice and the prepared ingredients into the pot and mixed well. We cracked the raw egg on top and kept it boiling, and it gradually turned soft and moist.

The name might make you think of fried rice, but when you actually eat it, it's closer to shabu-shabu porridge than fried rice. The egg made it much softer, and the flavor of the broth built from the meat and vegetables soaked into the rice, so I enjoyed it down to the last spoonful.

Shabu-shabu, then udon, then porridge at the end: it really felt like eating a full course in order! Personally, this finale made the meal feel even more worthwhile.

## Lunch to dinner: who is Misikga-ui Udon good for?

Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch isn't only about udon. It also has tonkatsu, soba, hamburg steak, salmon rice bowls, eel dishes and set meals, so it looked fine even if your group has different tastes. In the evening you can enjoy izakaya dishes with your meal too, so it would work for a casual drink.

Groups are welcome, and with high chairs and a waiting area, it also looked convenient for families.

The store notice also mentions a space for coffee, so it seems like a nice option for a casual cup after your meal.

## A hearty shabu-shabu meal in Daeyeon-dong, Busan

At first I thought, from the name, that Misikga-ui Udon was just a place you go for udon, but after actually trying the shabu-shabu, the menu was more varied than expected and the meal was really satisfying. We simmered plenty of meat and several kinds of vegetables, enjoyed udon as a second round, then finished with a moist egg porridge, and I was completely full.

Above all, it's close to Daeyeon Station so it's easy to get to, and the warm wood-toned Japanese-style interior and the ceramics and decorations displayed around the room were memorable too.

It's a good place to visit on a day in Daeyeon-dong when you're craving a hot soup dish, or when you want to enjoy everything from shabu-shabu to noodles and porridge in one go.
