## In short

Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap is a sashimi restaurant and drinking spot in Suyeong, Busan, near Suyeong Station and Suyeong Paldo Market. On an evening visit with a friend down from Seoul, the order was a small wild-caught assorted sashimi platter for ₩60,000 with frosty cold beer, and the sashimi was springy and fresh alongside generous side dishes. A friend came down from Seoul, and we finally got to meet up after a long time.

Wanting to show my friend a real taste of local Busan, I took them to Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap (신통영굴국밥) in Suyeong — a local sashimi spot rather than a tourist restaurant.

My friend said that if we were going to eat sashimi in Busan, they wanted to go somewhere locals actually go, not somewhere full of tourists — so that's how we ended up choosing this place.

It's a great spot in Suyeong for a plate of sashimi and a drink. The sashimi that day turned out even better than expected, so we both left satisfied. We went in the evening and nearly every seat was taken — it was busy.

## Where is Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap? Hours and parking

Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap is located at 24 Suyeong-ro 725beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan, near Suyeong Paldo Market. Hours are 11:30 to 24:00, closed every Sunday.

- Name: Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap
- Address: 24 Suyeong-ro 725beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan, South Korea
- Hours: 11:30 – 24:00 / closed every Sunday
- Parking: No dedicated lot. Use the Suyeong Paldo Market public parking lot or a nearby private lot.

It's close to Suyeong Station and near Suyeong Paldo Market, so it's easy to reach by public transit.

Since I was meeting a friend visiting from Seoul, how easy the place was to find mattered a lot. Being close to Suyeong Station meant we had no trouble getting there. The decent accessibility was another point in favor of this Suyeong sashimi bar.

## What the evening crowd at Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap is like

![Interior of Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap packed with evening customers](https://img.superchart.com/images/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe-02-i0q7t-900.webp)

![Fully seated dining hall at Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap](https://img.superchart.com/images/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe-03-lamzu-900.webp)

We visited in the evening, and the moment we walked in, the first thing I noticed was just how many customers were there.

Even though the place is fairly large, every seat was taken, and the few empty tables turned out to be reservations!

The restaurant was buzzing with nearly every seat filled — this wasn't the kind of place for a quiet meal, but more the kind where you sip drinks over sashimi and seafood while chatting away.

I wanted to show my friend from Seoul what a truly local Busan restaurant feels like, and it totally worked!

Between the lively energy of Suyeong Paldo Market and the loud, high-energy vibe inside, we succeeded in having a proper local Busan sashimi night out.

In the evening, a lot of customers order sashimi platters or seasonal seafood as drinking snacks, so it also works well if you're looking for a bar in Suyeong-dong.

If you're after a restaurant with an everyday, local feel — where actual Busan residents eat and drink — rather than a touristy spot, this place fits the bill.

## An oyster soup shop with a long sashimi menu

![Menu board listing gul gukbap, sashimi, and seasonal seafood](https://img.superchart.com/images/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe-05-1t2sq-900.webp)

With a name like Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap, you'd assume oyster soup with rice (gul gukbap) is the main draw. But looking at the menu, there was a wide range of sashimi and seasonal seafood dishes too, not just oyster dishes.

From meal dishes like gul gukbap and sea bream mugwort soup, to seasonal seafood like steamed oysters, seasoned gizzard shad, and blanched octopus, there were quite a few options.

My friend from Seoul looked at the menu and said they'd assumed this was just an oyster soup place, and got excited to see so much sashimi and seafood on offer.

Being able to enjoy seasonal catches like gizzard shad or shrimp depending on the time of year is a nice plus if you're looking for a sashimi bar or a bar in Suyeong.

Since my friend was visiting Busan for the first time, it was easy to pick dishes to suit both our tastes, from sashimi to seasonal seafood.

## The ₩60,000 wild assorted sashimi platter: how does it taste?

What we ordered that day was the small assorted wild sashimi platter.

![Small assorted wild sashimi platter as served](https://img.superchart.com/images/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe-06-qehe6-850.webp)

Since I was introducing sashimi to a friend who'd come all the way from Seoul just for this, how the sashimi tasted was the most important thing. I was already looking forward to it before the dish even arrived.

![Plate of springy-textured wild sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe-07-q22v3-1200.webp)

Once we tried it, I loved how springy and chewy the texture was — probably because it was wild-caught. You could really taste the clean flavor of the fish itself. Dipping it in vinegared gochujang, soy sauce, or ssamjang was tasty, but even without any dip, the flavor and texture were great on their own.

Honestly, this was probably the best sashimi I've had in the last ten years. It was so ridiculously good that I kept marveling at it with every bite!

My friend tried a piece too and said the texture was great and it seemed really fresh. They'd said they wanted to try fresh sashimi while in Busan, and I was relieved our first restaurant already delivered.

The small assorted wild sashimi platter was ₩60,000 — such a great, reasonable price! It was a good amount for two people to share as the centerpiece of a meal with drinks, and it wasn't too heavy on the wallet either.

![Ice-cold draft beer enjoyed with the sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe-11-wyeun-771.webp)

Maybe because the sashimi was so good, or maybe because the beer was ice-cold, but the drinks went down way easier than usual that day!

Man, it had been a while since I drank that much haha

## What side dishes come with the sashimi?

![Assorted side dishes served with the sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe-13-1ty0k-900.webp)

There were several side dishes to eat alongside the sashimi, so even the same fish felt a little different each time. The seasoning overall was mild and well-balanced, so I kept reaching for more without thinking.

![The tastiest side dish of the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe/suyeong-sinlocal-sashimi-natural-modeumhoe-14-othdp-900.webp)

This one was my favorite out of all of them!

With so many customers and high turnover, all the side dishes and vegetables were fresh and tasty!

Alternating between sashimi and side dishes paired perfectly with drinks, and we had a relaxed meal while catching up.

## Does Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap work as a Suyeong drinking spot?

Judging by the name alone, Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap might sound like a meal-focused oyster soup restaurant, but visiting in the evening, I saw plenty of customers ordering sashimi and seafood as drinking snacks.

There was also a big fish tank set up outside!

With customers ordering sashimi and seafood dishes alongside drinks, this place would suit anyone looking for a restaurant or bar in Suyeong-dong.

This atmosphere was exactly what mattered most while searching for a real local Busan restaurant with my friend from Seoul. Rather than a place aimed at tourists, we wanted somewhere Busan locals actually go to eat and drink — and Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap felt like just that.

It seems to get busy in the evenings — when we visited, most of the seats were already taken, and the place had a lively atmosphere.

Seeing how many customers were there, my friend said it seemed like a place Busan locals frequent often, and that it was nice to get a taste of the local vibe.

If you're looking for a place in Suyeong to eat sashimi and have a drink, this kind of relaxed, lively atmosphere would suit anyone who enjoys that vibe.

## Seasonal dishes to try on the next visit

If you like seasonal dishes, the gizzard shad or shrimp are worth trying too. Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap rotates seasonal seafood dishes, so you can also enjoy things like gizzard shad and king prawns depending on the time of year.

My friend from Seoul also said they wanted to try seasonal seafood while in Busan. Since we ordered the assorted sashimi platter this time, we agreed to come back and try the gizzard shad or shrimp dishes next visit.

This doesn't feel like a one-and-done kind of place — I think it'd be worth coming back each season to try different seafood dishes.

This time we had the assorted wild sashimi platter, but next time, ordering around the seasonal menu should offer a completely different experience.

## Final verdict on Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap

I visited Sintongyeong Gul Gukbap wanting to show a friend visiting from Seoul what a real local Busan sashimi bar feels like.

Rather than somewhere with a touristy vibe, I was looking for a place where Busan locals actually eat and drink — and between the packed evening crowd and the great sashimi, it turned into a satisfying meal.

The small assorted wild sashimi platter we ordered that day was ₩60,000, and the texture and flavor of the sashimi were both excellent. Several side dishes came out with it, pairing well with the sashimi, and it was a solid setup for a meal with drinks.

More than anything, seeing most of the seats filled in the evening gave a real sense of the local Suyeong-dong scene, with people enjoying sashimi and seasonal seafood.

My friend from Seoul was happy too, saying the sashimi was great and that it was nice to experience an everyday local Busan restaurant. It made me think this would be a good place to bring friends visiting Busan again.

If you're looking for a sashimi bar, a bar in Suyeong, or a good restaurant in Suyeong-dong, this place is worth a look. Next time, I'd like to try the gizzard shad or shrimp once the season changes.
