I wanted to fill up on something hearty first, and while thinking about what to eat, I suddenly got a craving for galbitang (short rib soup). Haha. I looked it up and found Gang Galbitang, known for great galbitang in Seomyeon, so I went straight there. Cutting to the chase: this place delivered with hot broth and big chunks of rib. They also have great seating for solo diners, so if you're looking for a solo-dining spot or a hearty lunch place in Seomyeon, Busan, I'd recommend it. 😊 ## Gang Galbitang's location and parking — can you drive to Seomyeon? Gang Galbitang is a galbitang restaurant on the 1st floor of 33 Saessak-ro, Busanjin-gu. Being lunchtime, customers kept streaming in. Inside there are regular tables plus solo bar seats on one side, good for eating alone. Since all the tables were full when we arrived, we sat at the bar seats, which actually turned out to be comfortable. The Jeju thick noodles caught my eye at ₩2,500, so I added it to just one bowl out of curiosity. Everyone... you really should add the noodles. Haha. Personally, it was a real delicacy. ## The self-bar and basic side dishes — grab your own mu-malaengi and geotjeori There's a self-bar on one side of the restaurant. Basic side dishes are brought to you at first, and if you run low, you can grab more from the self-bar. When I visited, mu-malaengi (dried radish strips) and geotjeori (fresh kimchi) weren't served by default — they were at the self-bar instead. If you want these two, grab them from the start! The mu-malaengi was especially good, so I went back for more halfway through. It came out bubbling hot in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), so it looked great from the start. The basic side dishes were kkakdugi (radish kimchi), peppers, garlic, and some larva-shaped side dish I couldn't quite name — haha — along with a dipping sauce for the meat. It wasn't intensely seasoned but had a clean, deep flavor typical of classic galbitang. I came here to eat something hearty before a trip, but this would honestly be great for a hangover cure too. The hot broth spreads through you, and one bowl leaves you properly full. Slurping noodles soaked in the galbitang broth ended up matching way better than I expected. At only ₩2,500 extra, it's not a big commitment, so noodle lovers should give it a try. The meat wasn't tough at all — very tender, easy to pull off the bone, and best of all, no gamy smell. Mixing rice into the broth, topping it with tender rib meat, and adding a piece of kkakdugi on top... need I say more. ㅠㅠ Let the glass noodles that come standard with the galbitang soak up plenty of broth, then slurp them up! I tried adding a bit midway out of curiosity — if you like a spicier style, feel free to add it! But personally, I preferred the base broth before adding dadagi.
