I've been totally obsessed with outdoor tables (yajang) lately haha. There aren't actually that many months a year when you can properly enjoy eating outside.

So these days, whenever the weather's nice, I just want a drink outdoors! On this particular day I was suddenly craving gopchang like crazy, so I went searching for 'somewhere with good gopchang AND outdoor seating' — and that's how I found Taepung Gopchang. If you're looking for a place to eat gopchang in Seomyeon, take note :)

## What are the outdoor yajang tables like at Taepung Gopchang?

Taepung Gopchang is a gopchang restaurant in Seomyeon on Dongcheon-ro 107beon-gil, running both indoor seats and outdoor tables. We wanted the outermost outdoor table but sadly someone was already sitting there, so no luck ㅠㅠ

and outdoor tables set up like this. Still, sitting at the inner outdoor table let us soak up that outside atmosphere while having a drink — pretty great. Gopchang plus soju on a night like this... it's a combo you just can't resist haha.

## Taepung Gopchang menu and prices: gopchang hot pot by the single portion

What we ordered at Taepung Gopchang: mixed gopchang platter 18,000 won × 2 servings, Korean beef gopchang hot pot 16,000 won × 1 serving. And here's the part I really liked — the gopchang hot pot can be ordered in a single portion!

Usually at gopchang restaurants, hot pot orders start at two servings minimum. That's fine if you're in a bigger group, but for just the two of us — after already eating grilled gopchang — a two-serving hot pot felt like a lot both price-wise and portion-wise.

But since Taepung Gopchang lets you order the hot pot in a single portion, two of us could try it without feeling like we'd overordered. A nice detail if you definitely want both grilled gopchang and hot pot!

## What side dishes come with the meal?

After a short wait, the side dishes came out first. White kimchi, chili-sesame oil seasoned greens, corn salad, kimchi, dried radish strips, pickled onion — a nice variety that pairs well with gopchang.

With the sides out, time to mix up a soju-beer first hahaha. Poured a refreshing round and while waiting, today's main event finally arrived!

## Mixed gopchang for two: how were the gop and the heart?

Ta-da~ Taepung Gopchang's mixed gopchang platter came loaded with veggies, plump gopchang, and yeomtong (beef heart).

Everything's cut into bite-sized pieces, and the gopchang comes pre-cooked to some degree, so you just need to wait a bit for the veggies to cook on the grill.

First up, the yeomtong since it cooked faster! You know how yeomtong gets tough if you overcook it? But this one was genuinely tender. Not chewy in a bad way — moist and pleasantly springy, so my expectations shot up from the very first bite.

Once the veggies were mostly done, gave everything a good mix and moved on to the real deal: the gopchang.

### Plump gopchang packed with gop (intestinal fat)

Can you see how packed with gop (the fatty lining) this gopchang is? Grabbed a plump, well-cooked piece and ate it with garlic chives — and the savory, rich flavor of the gop just hit immediately. Chewy on the outside, tender inside!

With all that gop packed in, the savory flavor spreads more with every chew — paired incredibly well with the soju-beer. Especially eating it with garlic chives, whose fresh aroma balanced out the richness of the gopchang, made it hard to stop reaching for more.

And I'd also recommend eating it with fernbrake (gosari) — the crunchy texture added another dimension compared to eating gopchang alone, a real treat.

Fully fueled up on fat from the gopchang, so time to add a bit of protein with the egg hahaha.

Look at that red color! The sauce had a sweet-and-tangy kick, perfect for a bite between rounds of gopchang. The noodles were nice and chewy too, better than expected — and best of all, this was a free menu item that still tasted great, which made it feel extra good. When your mouth gets a little greasy from the gopchang, a bite of bibim naengmyeon is exactly what you need.

## Korean beef gopchang hot pot for one: just right to split between two

And finally, the dish I'd been most looking forward to — Taepung Gopchang's Korean beef gopchang hot pot, 16,000 won for a single portion. After eating gopchang, things naturally get a bit greasy, right? That's when a spoonful of hot broth settles your stomach right back down, so the hot pot is a must haha.

There's glass noodles (dangmyeon) in it too, so it was just right for two people to finish off after grilled gopchang, splitting one portion. My one gripe: I like spicy food, and it wasn't as spicy as I'd expected at first. If you like heat, it might be worth asking them to make it spicier when you order!

And interestingly, this hot pot got tastier the longer it simmered. As the broth kept boiling, the savory flavor of the gopchang seeped out more, and once the glass noodles soaked up the broth, it just got richer and richer toward the end! Personally, if you're planning to eat gopchang and then hot pot too, I'd recommend finishing with just one added portion like this.

## Verdict: Taepung Gopchang also works for a Seomyeon group dinner

After eating everything, I understood why this place keeps coming up alongside other gopchang searches in Seomyeon. I especially loved having gopchang and soju-beer at the outdoor tables. On a nice-weather day, that outdoor-seating vibe really can't be beat...♥

The mixed gopchang was packed with gop, the yeomtong was tender, and the Korean beef gopchang hot pot at the end was satisfying too. Above all, being able to order the hot pot in a single portion was the thing I liked most.

Especially recommended if you're visiting as two and want both grilled gopchang and hot pot. With a bigger group, it's also easy to order several dishes and share, so if you're looking for a Seomyeon dinner spot for a group outing, this one's worth considering. If you're into outdoor seating like me, visit on a nice-weather day and enjoy gopchang with a soju-beer at the outdoor tables :) On a day when you're craving gopchang in Seomyeon and want both the grill and the hot pot, Taepung Gopchang is the move!
