Yongsan I'Park Mall is somewhere I often end up for dates, since even in hot or cold weather you can do everything indoors—from shopping to a meal and a movie. This time, my husband and I decided to watch a movie and stay for dinner for the first time in a while. While looking around for something to eat, we visited Menya Seoul Yongsan I'Park Mall Branch, a ramen spot that had been catching my eye lately. There were so many kinds of ramen that choosing was hard, but here you can select the broth and toppings to suit your taste, so it was perfect for the two of us to order different things and share.

Menya Seoul in particular is built around the concept of ramen where the chashu shines, with dongpo pork chashu as its signature.

꒰ა(๑⃙⃘´༥`๑⃙⃘)໒꒱ This time we tried the dongpo pork chashu ramen and the spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen, and it was fun comparing the two very different flavors.

## Menya Seoul location and seating

Menya Seoul Yongsan I'Park Mall Branch is in Taste Park on the seventh floor of Yongsan I'Park Mall. It is a one-minute walk from Exit 2 of Yongsan Station, and it is open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM.

We watched our movie and went straight to the restaurant floor. On a hot day, it really is convenient to shop, watch a movie, and eat without having to go outside—this is exactly when I'Park Mall comes in handy.

Menya Seoul is inside the food-court-style Taste Park, so it was easy to find. Take the escalator up and head toward the restaurants, and you will spot its trendy, neat sign. There are shared tables on the seventh floor where you can sit anywhere available, but Menya Seoul also has dedicated L-shaped counter seats right in front. So when one or two people visit, there is no need to wander around looking for a shared table—you can comfortably sit down in front of the restaurant for ramen.

## How to order by choosing broth and toppings

The fun part of looking over the Menya Seoul menu was the ordering method. Rather than simply offering a few fixed ramen options, it lets you combine a broth with toppings. The main choices are dongpo pork and jambon, or ham, while the broths are divided into mild, spicy, mala, and more. Each menu combination has a number, so even on a first visit it is easy to choose in order from the menu.

When you order a set, you can choose a side and a drink as well. Side options include crispy gyoza, karaage, and a sweet soy sauce chicken rice bowl, while drinks include cola, zero cola, cider, Pororo drink, and sparkling water. It is a nice setup when you want ramen with a side, too.

## The pleasantly spicy broth of spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen

We decided to try different styles, and I chose the spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen. After ordering and waiting a little, the pager buzzed and we went to collect our food. There it was: ramen with a big piece of dongpo pork chashu perched on top of a bright-red broth.

![A bowl of spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul-12-wo403-900.webp)

> The spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen I chose

Thick dongpo pork, ajitama (seasoned soft-boiled egg), scallions, garlic, bean sprouts, and other toppings were arranged so neatly that the spicy broth looked tempting before I even tasted it. The menu describes the spicy broth as about as hot as Shin Ramyun, and for me it had just the right, pleasantly peppery kick.

![Spicy broth and dongpo pork chashu toppings](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul-13-poduh-900.webp)

It was not just aggressively spicy; it also had the rich, deep character of its beef-bone base, making the broth itself quite delicious. Spicy yet substantial, it even felt a little like hangover ramen to me.

![Rich spicy ramen broth with a beef-bone base](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul-14-oa0st-900.webp)

The kind of flavor that would be great the day after drinking! The noodles were thin, making them easy to slurp up with the broth. I normally prefer thin noodles over thick ones in ramen, so I liked their texture too.

![Spicy ramen made with thin noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul-15-2hftg-900.webp)

Dip the nicely soft-cooked egg lightly into the broth, and the spicy flavor goes so well with the egg's gentle richness. The bean sprouts add crunch, and there are also garlic and seaweed, making it fun to pick through the toppings one by one. I especially liked wrapping the noodles in jambon and eating them in one bite. The savory ham and spicy broth made the umami really pop!

And the most memorable part of Menya Seoul was definitely the dongpo pork chashu. It felt tender from the moment I picked it up with my chopsticks, and once it was in my mouth, the meat practically fell apart! Despite being such a thick cut, it was moist and soft with no tough bits. Paired with the spicy broth, its savory meatiness came through even more. Honestly, I wished I had added another portion of chashu. ㅠㅠㅠ

## The mild dongpo pork chashu ramen my husband chose

> The dongpo pork chashu ramen my husband ordered

My husband likes mild flavors not only in coffee but in food too, so he ordered the mild-broth dongpo pork ramen this time. It was ramen with dongpo pork chashu over a clear, milky-looking broth, and it had a completely different feel from my spicy ramen. At first I wondered whether the mild broth might be a little bland, but once I tasted it, it was clean yet full-bodied with the richness of a beef-bone base. It was an easy, comforting broth without an intense flavor, so I think it would suit anyone who cannot handle spicy food.

![Dongpo pork chashu ramen with mild broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul-20-aebkh-900.webp)

The combination of tender dongpo pork chashu and the clean broth was especially good. While the broth takes center stage in the spicy ramen, the mild ramen is a style for slowly appreciating the chashu and the broth itself. So if you visit as a pair, I recommend doing what we did: order one spicy dish and one mild dish, then share.

When your palate needs a little something, have it with danmuji (yellow pickled radish)—ahh~

## Karaage alongside the ramen

Ramen alone felt a little incomplete, so we ordered karaage as a side. The pieces were not overly large, just the right size to have with ramen. They were crisp outside and moist inside, and a bite followed by a spoonful of ramen broth made for a nice combination. Since I was having the spicy ramen, snacking on the karaage in between let me enjoy the meat and broth flavors alternately.

![Crispy karaage as a ramen side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul/yongsan-ramen-mild-spicy-menyaseoul-23-4inel-900.webp)

I also liked that ordering a set lets you choose a side and drink, making for a more satisfying meal than ramen alone.

Unlike a typical ramen restaurant, Menya Seoul is a place where it is fun to combine broth and toppings around dongpo pork chashu. The chashu is thick yet tender, so anyone who loves chashu should try the signature dish. The spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen I had was delicious right down to the broth, with a peppery kick and the weighty richness of a beef-bone base; the mild dongpo pork ramen my husband had offered a clean, rich broth that should suit people who prefer gentler ramen. Another advantage is that each person can choose a broth and toppings to match their taste, even when visiting in a group!

When you are shopping, watching a movie, or on a date at Yongsan I'Park Mall, you often need somewhere to eat, and it was convenient to take care of that right on the seventh floor. (*Ü*)｡:°ஐ* If you want ramen that feels a little more special than the ordinary kind at Yongsan I'Park Mall, I recommend Menya Seoul's dongpo pork chashu ramen. Next time, I want to order the dongpo pork chashu I enjoyed so much again and finally take on the mala broth I have not tried yet!!
