## In short

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch is a Chinese restaurant near Simhaksan in Paju, Gyeonggi, renewed from Songjeong Dol Jjamppong in Busan, and its signature dish is stone-plate jjajang (black bean noodles) served on a hot stone plate so it stays warm to the last bite. The order here was a medium nurungji (scorched rice) stone-plate jjajang with added octopus, a tungbosha (fried shrimp toast) set and plum ade; spice level 2 was tinglingly addictive, and the crisp nurungji hidden under the noodles made it a filling meal. With unlimited rice refills, a highchair and a baby-food microwave, Dolpanseok Jjamppong also works well for a family dinner in Paju.

I heard that Dolpanseok Jjamppong, renewed from the once-famous Songjeong Dol Jjamppong in Busan, had opened near Simhaksan in Paju, so I went to try the stone-plate jjajang.

The building had big letters spelling out 'Dolpanseok Jjamppong,' so it was easy to find! I parked in the dedicated lot right in front of the restaurant.

The inside of this Paju restaurant was spacious with plenty of seating! I liked that booths were divided by partitions, and there was also a group table in the center, so it seemed perfect for a Paju date spot as well as gatherings and work dinners. Plus, they had a highchair and a baby-food microwave ready.

The main dishes at Dolpanseok Jjamppong are dol jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and dol jjajang (black bean noodles)! Set menus also came with a ₩2,000 discount. The new samgye seafood nurungji tang (chicken and seafood scorched-rice soup) looked really delicious too. There was a donchitang set and a tungbosha set, and I ordered the nurungji stone-plate jjajang, medium, with added octopus, plus a tungbosha and a plum ade! You could also choose your spice level for the jjajang, so I went with level 2, the medium-spicy option.

![Self-serve bar with pickled radish and green onion kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-12-caguc-900.webp)

The self-serve bar even had pickled radish and green onion kimchi! And rice was refillable for free!! It seemed like a great spot to bring the whole family and mix everything with rice, making it perfect for family meals in Paju.

## Stone-plate jjajang with added octopus: how spicy is level 2?

And then — ★☆ the stone-plate jjajang arrives ☆★ Just the sizzling sound already looked delicious. Following the instructions on how to best enjoy dol jjajang, I didn't scrape it all together right away — I waited a bit and lifted just the noodles first. The noodles were soft and slid down easily.

![Stone-plate jjajang sizzling on the hot plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-15-1ycnm-900.webp)

![Noodles lifted gently from the nurungji stone-plate jjajang](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-16-11syb-900.webp)

I added a whole octopus, and besides that there were plump shrimp, squid, and quail eggs — the toppings were packed in. The octopus was tender, not chewy at all, and paired really well with the jjajang.

![Stone-plate jjajang packed with octopus and shrimp toppings](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-17-4k6n7-900.webp)

![Close-up of the jjajang with added chili powder](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-18-110gx-900.webp)

I sprinkled a little more chili powder on top to bump up the spice, and since it's served on a hot stone, the jjajang sauce soaked right into the soft noodles and came together perfectly — so good!! Level 2 wasn't super spicy, more of a tingly, addictive heat, so if you can't handle much spice, I'd recommend going with level 1.

## Four pieces of handmade tungbosha shrimp toast and plum ade

And then, four pieces of handmade menbosha (fried shrimp toast) so plump they were practically chubby!!!

![Four plump pieces of handmade tungbosha (menbosha)](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-19-oal0u-900.webp)

![Cross-section of menbosha packed with shrimp filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-20-1uysw-900.webp)

Can you see how stuffed the filling is? They came out freshly fried, so the outside was crispy and the inside was moist — so delicious. Packed with shrimp, the texture was great too! Dipped in the chili sauce they served alongside, the tungbosha was even better... T_T

Maybe because it's handmade, it was truly the crispiest, plumpest menbosha I've ever had. Not just a little plump either — two of these tungbosha alone were enough to fill me up.

![A glass of plum ade served alongside the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-21-1ixbn-900.webp)

I also had a plum ade on the side, and stirring it well and sipping between bites refreshed my palate, which made the jjajang go down even more smoothly.

## Nurungji stone-plate jjajang at this Paju Chinese restaurant

![Crispy nurungji revealed beneath the jjajang noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-22-hyi9h-900.webp)

Once you eat through the noodles, the nurungji hiding underneath appears. It wasn't hard at all — soaked through with the jjajang sauce, it was nutty and slid right down. Eating through the nurungji too left me completely full.

![Dessert yogurt set out near the checkout counter](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-23-1lm14-900.webp)

![Rice crackers prepared at the dessert corner](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha/paju-simhaksan-dol-jjajang-ttungbosha-24-1w6sp-900.webp)

And on the way out, such a nice touch..! They even had dessert yogurt and rice crackers ready ( ☆∀☆) I already ate the jjajangmyeon happily, and then this overflowing generosity too — Dolpanseok Jjamppong turned out to be an amazing find in Paju.
