## In short

Udon-i Wanseongdoeda is a Japanese udon restaurant near Peace Plaza in Mokpo, Gwangju. I tried Toowoomba cream udon, bukkake udon, and several fried sides, and the bouncy yet tender house-made noodles were especially my style. Verdict: a great stop for a cool or filling udon lunch during a Mokpo trip.

## An udon lunch near Mokpo Peace Plaza

While traveling in Mokpo, I was looking for somewhere to have lunch near Peace Plaza when I found Udon-i Wanseongdoeda (우동이완성되다) 🍜 I already really love udon in everyday life too, so when I spotted an udon place while searching for good restaurants around Mokpo Peace Plaza, I visited right away without even having to think twice :)

Udon-i Wanseongdoeda Mokpo Peace Plaza Branch is open from 11:00 - 20:30, with a break time from 15:00 - 17:00. Last orders are at 14:30 / 20:00, and it is regularly closed every Tuesday. You can use a nearby public parking lot or park along the road.

The exterior of Udon-i Wanseongdoeda really caught my eye from afar! The yellow and wood tones work so well together, giving it a warm, cute feel. 💛

There is a separate waiting area by the entrance, too. I liked that it has air conditioning, so you can wait comfortably even on a hot day. You can also make a reservation through Tabling, so if you are worried about a wait, it would be good to check ahead before visiting. 🙂

## Spacious seating and tablet ordering

When I stepped inside, the overall atmosphere was clean and tidy. The wood-tone interior felt warm, and above all, there was plenty of space between tables, making it easy to dine comfortably.

There are quite a few seats, so it would be nice for a visit with friends or family. If you are dining alone, the bar seating would be a good choice.

It was also quietly lovely that each table had a fresh flower on it. 🌹🌺🌼 Ordering was easy using the tablet at the table.

## The bounce of same-day house-made noodles

One of Udon-i Wanseongdoeda's biggest features is its house-made noodles. ✨ They say they make the noodles while considering differences as small as 0.1 mm, focusing on preserving both their springiness and tenderness. The udon uses premium Australian ASW flour and is made with a Japanese Yamato noodle-making system to bring out that signature chewy texture. Most of all, I liked that they follow the principle of mixing the dough and making the noodles on the same day, serving fresh noodles.

When I actually tried them, the noodles definitely had more bounce than ordinary udon. 👍🏻 They were springy yet soft when I bit into them, with a chewy texture that came alive the more I chewed—exactly my style as an udon lover >.<!!

## Hot udon, cold udon, and side dishes

### Hot udon menu

### Cold udon menu

### Side menu

The menu was broadly divided into hot udon, cold udon, and side dishes. There was a wide range from hot to cold udon, so it was easy to choose according to your preference, and there were plenty of sides such as pork cutlet and fried items, too.

After some deliberation, we ordered Toowoomba cream udon, bukkake (cold udon with a light soy-based broth), handmade tonkatsu, kakiage, and a soft-boiled egg tempura. 😋

## Rich and spicy Toowoomba cream udon

This cream udon has savory butter and garlic aromas with a basic spicy kick, but despite being cream udon, it was not simply rich and heavy. The smooth, thick cream sauce was joined by the nuttiness of butter and a subtle garlic aroma, then a little heat came through at the end and really woke up my appetite. 👍🏻 The creamy sauce paired perfectly with the bouncy house-made udon, so it clung to the noodles with every bite!!! It truly felt like an addictive cream udon with no time to become cloying.

## Cold noodles enjoyed as bukkake

This cold udon comes with a shallow pour of umami-rich chilled tsuyu (Japanese noodle dipping broth), making it a great menu item for properly experiencing the texture of the house-made noodles themselves. 😋 Eaten cold, the noodles' springy texture stood out even more, while the salty, umami-filled flavor of the tsuyu naturally soaked into them.

Above all, the noodles were so bouncy that I could feel their elasticity from the moment I picked them up with my chopsticks. I think this would suit anyone who wants to fully enjoy chewy noodles themselves rather than a deep, intense sauce. It was also clean and refreshing for lunch while traveling around Mokpo in hot weather. 💛

## Fried sides with udon

### Kakiage

This is Japanese-style vegetable tempura with sweet onion, fragrant chamnamul greens, burdock root, and two plump shrimp. It was fried crisp, yet moist inside, with a gentle sweetness characteristic of onion coming through… 🥹👍🏻 The plump shrimp add a springy bite, which is the key point! It was crisp while preserving the vegetables' natural sweetness, so it was great alongside the udon.

### Handmade tonkatsu

I liked that it was crisp outside while remaining moist and tender inside. The breading was not too thick, so I could taste the clean flavor of the meat well, and having it with the udon made for a satisfying meal.

### Soft-boiled egg tempura

The outside was fried crisp, while the egg inside was moist, soft, and still soft-boiled, so it really had that crisp-outside, tender-inside appeal. The soft, savory yolk went well with the crisp batter; it was delicious on its own and also paired beautifully with the udon. 👍🏻

## For lunch on a Mokpo trip

If you are wondering what to eat for lunch near Peace Plaza during a Mokpo trip, I recommend Udon-i Wanseongdoeda. What impressed me especially was that, unlike a typical udon restaurant, it uses house-made noodles prepared from same-day dough and made fresh that day. Having tried them myself, the noodles clearly had wonderful spring and chew, so I was very satisfied as an udon lover. 💓 If you are looking for a good lunch spot around Mokpo Peace Plaza, I think it would be nice to stop by Udon-i Wanseongdoeda for chewy house-made udon :)
