A great pick for a solo lunch near Gangnam Station when you want to try a bit of different seafood at once.

## Custom poke at Ola Poke Gangnam — I went with octopus and scallop

Today I tried poke at Ola Poke. I went with the custom option, which I liked because there were so many unusual protein choices. I picked scallop and octopus, and the octopus tasted exactly like the octopus my grandmother used to boil for us on holidays. Octopus is supposed to be high in taurine, so I told myself I was having it instead of an energy drink.

I actually like seafood more than chicken breast or tuna, but most poke places only ever have the same old proteins, which gets boring. Here they had octopus and scallop, plus even duck, which was great. And the onion flakes were such a good crunchy, savory kick.

I got it packed to go, and this is how it came out. I picked sriracha mayo as the sauce — if you squint, it looks like it's been drizzled with cheddar cheese sauce, and it tasted just as good.

### Soba noodle base instead of rice, and those onion flakes are no joke

I chose soba noodles instead of rice — great choice. Actually, whatever these flakes are, onion or garlic, they're genuinely delicious. Can I pay extra for more? Looking closer, they mix them with furikake before sprinkling it on. No wonder it tasted so good!!!

The scallop was subtly delicious. I always see 50-packs of scallops at E-Mart and think if I bought those, half would go bad before I finished them, so I never let myself buy scallops even when I wanted them. But here there's an option to just add scallop — an automatic yes.

Look at that huge piece of octopus. See how the sriracha mayo looks just like cheddar cheese sauce? That salty sauce is the best. Now back to the store review.

## How to get to Ola Poke Gangnam without getting lost

The location is here, and I'm not exaggerating — if you just head there blind, you could wander for a good 30 minutes. I got stuck in that maze-like building like it was some kind of backrooms situation forever. My phone died and I basically became a lost ant. So let me show you the shortcut I found.

Come out of Gangnam Station Exit 4 and head toward Dallae Haejang — across from it you'll see a shopping building (the one I'm standing in front of in the photo). Go straight into that hallway, and

15 seconds in, you'll see a discount liquor market on your left. Keep it on your left and go straight into the alley, and

you'll see a standing signboard.

And there's the store. Easy, right?

## Menu setup and self-bar

They apparently make the rice with multigrain — nice, since when you're eating poke you kind of need to trick your brain with that multigrain texture.

Here's how the menu is laid out.

I went with the custom option. There were a lot of ingredients included as standard, so you can get a good variety of nutrition.

There's a self-bar, and they even had mouthwash. Seems like a great setup for quickly eating an odor-free poke bowl for lunch, rinsing with mouthwash, and heading right back to work. Looks like there's a fire noodle poke option too? That sounds amazing.

Here's the menu board. Nicely organized and easy to read at a glance.

### Protein add-on options, octopus for ₩2,500

Here's the protein list — scallop is down below too. The strength here is being able to add whatever kind you want, however much you want. For that amount of octopus, ₩2,500 isn't bad. As for steak... I honestly don't know. I just want to eat steak. Beef and seafood are my favorites. I should really move to Southeast Asia or Australia. Anyway, I just don't vibe with Korea in this regard.

When I try to eat a variety of proteins at home, I usually end up buying a whole batch of each and can't finish it before it expires. Buying here lets me eat small amounts of a bunch of different things, which I really appreciate.

## Why it's great for solo dining

And there are phone stands and outlets so you can eat alone comfortably. Such a nice touch.

![Order kiosk screen with detailed ingredient options](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangnam-poke-custom-octopus-scallop-buckwheat/gangnam-poke-custom-octopus-scallop-buckwheat-16-1uugl-900.webp)

A kiosk made for indecisive introverts who take forever to order. There are so many options that you can remove even the tiniest ingredient you don't want. Personally, I hate the corn kernels that come in poke, so I always take them out.

There are recommended combo options too, which is nice — other people's recipes always taste the best, haha. This place has a ton of branches, so it seems like a good spot to grab your favorite combo wherever you need it. Seems perfect for a solo lunch too. Review over!
