We had come all the way to Seoul and wanted something a little unusual, so while searching, I found out there were ribs marinated with matcha! That brought us to this Sookdae-area favorite, Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch (무뚝 숙대본점), a Korean barbecue restaurant! Apparently, “Muttuk” comes from a dialect version of “mundeuk,” meaning “suddenly,” and the name was chosen in hopes of becoming a meat restaurant that suddenly comes to mind! I was so curious because the name had meaning, and I headed in excited to see whether these unique matcha ribs would really be delicious :) There is no dedicated parking lot, but you can use the Cheongpadong Community Center Public Parking Lot right next door. There was even a special sauce with fresh minari (water parsley)! The ribs came piled generously with matcha marinade, with fragrant minari alongside, making the whole spread feel abundant. The cheese bomb steamed egg looked exactly as its name suggests, with cheese absolutely exploding on top hahahahaha. The cheese completely covered the fluffy steamed egg without a gap, so it looked rich and soft just from the first glance! A staff member put the meat on the grill and cooked it for us! Matcha ribs—I was so excited haha. Onto the charcoal, then carefully grilled haha. I thought the matcha aroma would be strong, but it just smelled like ribs hahahahaha. Let’s try them. I like matcha, so I had no hesitation at all, but my boyfriend does not usually prefer it, and I wondered whether it might be hard for him at first. Yum yum, the best combination with scallion kimchi and myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves). ## Cheese bomb steamed egg and soy sauce egg rice The steamed egg really did get hit by a cheese bomb. I loved that it was not rich in a heavy way, and the popping corn kernels made the texture fun while also refreshing the palate nicely :) I wanted rice too, so we ordered soy sauce egg rice! The matcha marinade gave it a charm different from the ribs you eat all the time, and it was even nicer with the fragrant minari that came alongside :) Adding the cheese bomb steamed egg, loaded with cheese, completed a rich and soft pairing that was perfect as a drinking snack too! It is a great place to visit when you want to try something different or have a drink with plentiful food, and I really want to come back to try other dishes next time.
