## In short

Cafe Bonghwangdang is a café and dessert shop at 737 Taejong-ro in Gyeongju, near the entrance to the Daereungwon tomb complex and just across from Hwangnidang-gil. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out on the royal tomb mounds, and the order here was a matcha latte, a milk tea parfait and one box of yeonhwagwa (traditional Korean fried honey cookies) to take home. Cafe Bonghwangdang sits slightly away from the crowds of Hwangnidang-gil and is a quiet place to rest, though it is not an easy visit with children or dogs.

While traveling around Gyeongju, I went looking for a place with good vibes and a dessert you can only really get in Gyeongju — and that's how I ended up at Cafe Bonghwangdang. There are so many cafés in Gyeongju that it was hard to choose, but instead of somewhere that's just about the coffee, I wanted a place where I could feel the Gyeongju travel mood while enjoying dessert, so I picked Cafe Bonghwangdang.

## Where is Cafe Bonghwangdang, and why add it to a Gyeongju itinerary?

Bonghwangdang sits on Taejong-ro in Gyeongju, close to Daereungwon, so it slots easily into a travel itinerary. It's especially handy as a rest stop while you're wandering around Hwangnidang-gil — a good match for anyone looking for a café to break up a day of sightseeing.

The café's signature feature is its floor-to-ceiling window seats overlooking Daereungwon, plus separate spaces on the 1st and 2nd floors, so it was easy to settle in and relax.

## What the Hwangnidang-gil café feels like inside, floor by floor

Walking into Bonghwangdang, it felt a bit different from a typical café — you could feel Gyeongju's regional character in every corner, and looking out through the big windows was perfect for zoning out for a while.

Traveling around Gyeongju you run into a lot of hanok and traditional-style spaces, but Cafe Bonghwangdang stood out as especially unique among them. It had a traditional feel mixed with something distinctive, so it was great for photos too — and honestly, the view was insane. Looking out through that cool window at the tomb mounds felt so Gyeongju :)

## Cafe Bonghwangdang menu and yeonhwagwa gift sets

They had all kinds of gift sets that make great Gyeongju souvenirs — sumakse cookies, a yeonhwagwa set, cheesecake, and more. So I got a box of the yeonhwagwa set along with a matcha latte and milk tea frappe.

Since I was in Gyeongju, I wanted something a little more special than the usual menu. Beyond the regular coffee items, there were all kinds of drinks — parfaits, smoothies, lattes.

Bonghwangdang is technically a café, but the gift set packaging is so stylish it almost feels like a Gyeongju goods shop. If you need to pick up a souvenir while traveling, I'd genuinely recommend grabbing one of Cafe Bonghwangdang's gift sets — they capture both a premium feel and that Gyeongju-ness together!

## How the matcha latte and milk tea parfait taste

After walking around Gyeongju all day, a cold matcha latte hit the spot. And then there's a menu item that catches your eye just from looks alone — the milk tea parfait at Gyeongju's Bonghwangdang. Recommended on a day when you're craving something sweet.

It's also a good size to share, so ordering one americano each plus a parfait to split like a dessert works well too. Taste matters, but so does eating something you can only really have in that particular place — that's part of the fun. If you're looking for a café on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, this one has both photogenic interiors and a menu to match.

## What to know before visiting Cafe Bonghwangdang

Overall, my sense of Cafe Bonghwangdang was that it's a space where you can feel Gyeongju's atmosphere even indoors while resting up. Daereungwon and Hwangnidang-gil are unmissable parts of any Gyeongju trip, right? And there's a lot of walking involved in Gyeongju travel, so I hope you'll rest your tired legs at Bonghwangdang, enjoy the tomb view through the big windows, and try a few different menu items :)

It's near the Daereungwon entrance and across from Hwangnidang-gil, so it's really quiet! There are plenty of pretty cafés on Hwangnidang-gil, but a lot of them turn out to be packed and noisy once you actually walk in. Cafe Bonghwangdang is set slightly apart, so it genuinely feels calm and restful.

- Near the Daereungwon entrance and across from Hwangnidang-gil, so relatively quiet
- Window seats with Daereungwon tomb views, plus separate 1st and 2nd floor spaces
- Not an easy visit with kids or dogs — worth keeping in mind

So it's a place you can enjoy a bit more peacefully. If you want even your café stop in Gyeongju to feel like part of the trip itself, Bonghwangdang is a pretty solid choice. Hope you have a great trip to Gyeongju -!
