My head was oddly full that day, and I knew if I stayed home nothing would get sorted out in my thoughts. So I grabbed my laptop and a notebook and went looking for a Gwangalli café where I could sit alone and think things through quietly.

That's how I ended up at Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch in Minnak-dong 🤍

Plenty of people were there for brunch, but I also saw quite a few sitting alone with coffee or working on laptops like me, so it didn't feel awkward at all to come solo.

Walking from Gwangalli Beach toward Minnak Fish Market and one block into the alley, you'll find it. It's close to Millak the Market and Minnak Fish Market too, making it a great stop for breakfast or brunch during a Gwangalli trip.

## Why this Gwangalli brunch café feels Australian

Famous Benny is a place where you can enjoy Australian-style brunch and specialty coffee.

The fact that they serve brunch from 8am, plus the overall atmosphere, felt much more like an overseas brunch café than a typical dessert café. The space is split across 1st and 2nd floors, so there were more seating options than I expected.

I brought my laptop and notebook that day, and there were plenty of outlets, so it was comfortable to sit for a long time.

There was a wide variety of drinks too — coffee, tea, non-coffee ades, gelato, smoothies — and the brunch menu had plenty of options to pick from.

I heard Famous Benny uses Dukes beans for their coffee.

### 1st floor for pets, 2nd floor for roomier seats

There are seats on the 1st floor too, but I saw several people spending time there with their dogs, so I didn't get a photo 🥹

Since Famous Benny itself is dog-friendly, it could be a great choice for anyone walking around Gwangalli who wants to enjoy brunch or coffee with their dog haha.

Head up to the 2nd floor and there's a space with a bit more room to spread out. There are sofa seats and large tables, so it's good for chatting over brunch, and it was also fine for spending time with my laptop or notebook open like I did.

The music selection was really good too — on a day when I wanted to spend time alone in Gwangalli, I was genuinely grateful a space like this existed.

They also had baby chairs, blankets, bottled water, and side plates all thoughtfully and neatly set up.

## The Famous Benny with salmon, 18,000 won

My main order was the signature dish here, The Famous Benny. You can choose bacon or salmon, and I went straight for salmon without hesitation 🧡

Poached egg, avocado, sabayon sauce, macadamia, and onion chips are all piled on top of a croissant, so honestly the visuals alone made it impossible not to take photos.

The colorful plating made me happy the moment it landed on the table — that classic good-brunch feeling!

### Breaking the poached egg over the salmon

With egg-Benedict-style dishes like this, the moment of popping the poached egg is always the most exciting part haha.

Popping the yolk and eating the salmon, avocado, and croissant all together at once felt much more harmonious than eating each element separately.

If you especially love salmon, I'd recommend ordering the salmon version like I did. With so many ingredients packed onto one plate, it felt satisfying enough to count as a full meal, even though it's technically brunch.

## Yogurt bowl, 7,000 won

I also ordered the yogurt bowl alongside it. It comes with yogurt, honey, berry compote, granola, fruit, and mixed seeds.

It would suit anyone who finds one brunch dish a bit lacking, or who wants something lighter than a heavy morning meal. I ordered it alongside the salmon benny, and it worked well going back and forth between the hearty brunch and the refreshing yogurt.

## A long black to go with Australian-style brunch

For my drink I ordered a long black. Since I'd come for Australian-style brunch, I wanted to match it with a proper long black too haha. Famous Benny apparently uses Dukes beans.

I sipped it while eating brunch, and after the meal I kept slowly drinking it with my laptop open, taking my time to sort out my thoughts. It was also nice being able to handle both brunch and coffee in one place, without needing to move to another café afterward to work.

## A Minnak-dong brunch spot that photographs well

This place is fun to photograph, from the brunch plating to the space itself. With the colorful Famous Benny, yogurt bowl, and long black all laid out on the table together, it felt like a full brunch spread on its own 🤍

There's something about moving a little earlier in the morning and eating a pretty plate of brunch that makes you feel like you started the day right. If you're traveling through Gwangalli, an early morning beach walk followed by brunch here would make a great combo.
