## In short

Kitto is a tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet) restaurant on the second floor of a building on Maebongsan-ro 2-gil in Sangam-dong, Seoul, about a 3-minute walk from Exit 9 of DMC Station. The tenderloin katsu costs 16,000 won and was eaten with a small beer, curry, ochazuke (rice in green tea broth) and lemon sherbet; the low-temperature cooking keeps the meat moist, and alternating between salt, wasabi and sauce keeps each bite interesting. With bar seats along the full-length window, Kitto suits both solo meals and dinner after work.

I was looking for a good tonkatsu spot in Sangam-dong and ended up at Kitto! It's close to DMC Station so it's easy to get to, and it seemed like a great place to have tonkatsu with a beer — perfect for dinner after work. We ordered the tenderloin katsu with a small beer 🍺

It's on the 2nd floor, so you head up the stairs~~

I thought the name Kitto was kind of cute — apparently it's from the Japanese KITTO (きっと), meaning "surely," and KATSU (勝つ), meaning "to win." Haha, my day had been rough anyway... I definitely need to win against everything today 😆

## Kitto's menu and prices: tenderloin katsu for 16,000 won

Kitto specializes in tonkatsu, and after some deliberation we went with the tenderloin katsu. It's ₩16,000, the premium loin katsu is ₩18,000, and you can add curry for ₩4,000.

![Natural horse salt placed on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/kitto-sangam-tenderloin-katsu-beer/kitto-sangam-tenderloin-katsu-beer-07-1rnfx-900.webp)

They even had natural horse salt on the table. Definitely had to dip a piece in that!

And since tonkatsu alone felt like it needed something more, we ordered a small beer too 🍺

Cheers~~~ By the way, since it's cooked at a low temperature, they mention it can take about 10–15 minutes after ordering for the food to come out. We ended up chatting over beer and didn't even notice the time passing, haha.

## How did Kitto's tenderloin katsu taste?

Before it even arrived, the tonkatsu looked prettier than I expected. Instead of just being crispy and fried, it had this style where the inside stayed moist and alive.

![Cross-section of the tenderloin katsu showing a moist interior](https://img.superchart.com/images/kitto-sangam-tenderloin-katsu-beer/kitto-sangam-tenderloin-katsu-beer-11-m98d4-1200.webp)

Being tenderloin, the meat was really soft. There was almost no toughness or dryness when I took a bite — the texture was tender and pleasant, haha. For reference, I like cuts with less fat!! For tonkatsu, it's nice to try it plain first, then move on to enjoying it with salt, wasabi, or tonkatsu sauce.

And here's the curry we ordered as a side. It went perfectly with the rice.

They said rice, soup, and side dishes are all refillable, so big eaters might want to keep that in mind.

### Salt or sauce: which suited the katsu better?

Personally, I found dipping it in salt pretty delicious, haha. The tonkatsu itself is mild, so just a light dip in salt lets the meat flavor come through more. Dipping it in sauce, on the other hand, gives that familiar, classic tonkatsu taste — a different vibe entirely. Trying a piece with salt, then another with sauce, turned out to be more fun than I expected.

This is the free extra rice and ochazuke (rice soaked in tea). Pouring cold rice into green tea and slurping it down makes for an easy, satisfying finish to the meal!

Finally, the sherbet arrived.

![Lemon sherbet served for dessert](https://img.superchart.com/images/kitto-sangam-tenderloin-katsu-beer/kitto-sangam-tenderloin-katsu-beer-17-11qzl-900.webp)

The lemon sherbet cleansed the palate perfectly to finish things off. Kitto seems like a great spot to visit whether it's lunch or dinner.

## Kitto's window bar seats: solo meals and dinner for two

The restaurant overall had a clean, modern Japanese-restaurant kind of vibe.

![Clean interior seating at Kitto](https://img.superchart.com/images/kitto-sangam-tenderloin-katsu-beer/kitto-sangam-tenderloin-katsu-beer-18-h1v3w-900.webp)

There are bar-style seats by the window in particular, which look good for solo diners too. The full-length window keeps things from feeling cramped. We deliberately sat by the window so we could sit side by side and chat.

There are good seats for two, as well as tables for larger groups eating together, so it looked like a solid choice for a workday lunch or dinner after work.

Overall it wasn't a super formal atmosphere, but not overly casual either — a comfortable place to go for a good tonkatsu meal.

Next time I'd like to try the premium loin katsu along with the curry! If you're looking for a good tonkatsu spot in Sangam-dong for lunch or after work, Kitto is worth a visit 🍽️🍺
